  • Friday 24th July (Miss Taylor)

    It is hard to believe that today is the last day of term – A term we will never forget! It has certainly been a rollercoaster of a year…

    I am so so proud of all of you and how positive you have been during the school closure and lock down. You have worked so hard, learnt so many new things and have adapted to the new ways and routines so well. It was so special to see you all on Wednesday for our farewell on the field. I loved hearing all about what you have been up to and what you are looking forward to next year. You are all more than ready for the exciting times and challenges of Year 5 and I know you are going to love it! Mr Lonsdale is so lucky to be getting the best, most hard working, charismatic, energetic, hilarious, loving and caring group of children. I will really miss you next year. (I am only next door and you are always more than welcome to come and catch up with me!)

    Finally, I would like to say a huge thank you for all of the generous and thoughtful gifts and cards. It really means the world to me. You are so kind – Thank you.

    I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday.

    It has been another busy week this week! I hope you all enjoyed your Zoom call with Mr Lonsdale and are looking forward to becoming Year 5’s.     Hi Class 4,

    Thank you so much to everyone who has sent me their transition work this week. I have particularly enjoyed reading your reflections on your time in Class 4 – So many special achievements to celebrate and lovely memories made. It is a shame that we could not finish the year, but it is nice to know that you have happy memories of Class 4.

    I have also enjoyed reading your poems for Mr Lonsdale and I have made sure he has received them. I know he is really looking forward to meeting you all! I have enjoyed telling him all about you – and what a special class you are! If you haven’t yet had chance to do your poem and transition work, don’t worry – Send it to me next week and I will make sure your new class team see it smiley

    Headstart Primary have produced some lovely, simple activity booklets which we know would be of great benefit to our children.  They are also currently available at a bargain price of £1.38 each.

    Please order and pay using Parent Pay. You can order for your child’s current year group until the 29th June. You may also wish to order booklets for the year group your child will be moving into.

    Friday again!

    It has been yet another superb week of Home Learning for Class 4. Your lovely messages really make me smile and I’m so pleased to see and hear how busy you are at home. The weather has been glorious this week –I hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine!

    This week, I would like to make a special mention for Ava, who I know has been working incredibly hard. This week, Ava has set up a very interesting experiment with cornstarch and water – When she mixed them together it set hard like a solid and when poured it's a liquid – Ava this is one I must try!  

    Lily made a fantastic time capsule including lots of special things. She also wrote a letter to the people of the future to tell them about how Coronavirus was affecting everyone. Well done Lily!

    The Creature from the Deep...!  Last week, I sent an optional writing challenge for you to have a go at. I am really proud of Lucy for attempting this challenge so brilliantly. I loved all the drama and suspense she created, I was on the edge of my seat! I’m really glad that Jack, Stacy and little baby Luna had a happy ending!

    Times Tables Rockstars have been in touch with GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS about how fast some of our times tables rockers are getting. After some conversations they have created a new title - "the highest score achieved on ‘Times Tables Rock Stars in one minute!"

    To make an Official Attempt, players need to record a video of themselves achieving their highest score in the Studio* and send the video to support@mathscircle.com by 23:59 UK time on 4th June 2020.

I know that many of you are enjoying the daily worksheets mailed via DB, others are working on paper workbooks and many are engaging in the online subscriptions.

    Next week would have been our May Half Term holiday! I’m going to suggest you all enjoy a well-earned break. Enjoy time in the sunshine, time with your families and time to yourself.

    Another week has passed and what a busy week it has been! I am so proud of how everyone is working so hard at home and keeping up with their learning. This included a daily English task complete with a Powerpoint for you to follow and 2 daily worksheets with answers, and a daily maths worksheet linked to the White Rose Home Learning resources. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ 

    These worksheets can be printed at home for you to complete or you can write the answers into your yellow Home Learning books. 

    These additional taks are optional as we know that some children prefer worksheets. 

    Please, please do not worry about these or feel overwhelmed. They are there if you want them and would like more direction with your Home Learning. 

    I know you are all working incredibly hard in your own ways - Keep it up and keep smiling!

    A Special Thank You…

    A huge, huge special thank you to all the children and families who helped make our ‘non-wedding’ day last weekend so special. I was so surprised by your amazing videos, singing, lovely messages, posters and drawings. You are incredibly special to me and I was really touched by this lovely and kind gesture – It really made our day extra special!

    A special thank you to Mrs Hallas who I know put a lot of time, thought and effort into this. (The brass was an excellent touch!)

    We had a lovely day in the sunshine, enjoyed a delicious wedding afternoon tea and held an online virtual wedding for friends and family (complete with speeches, cutting the cake, a first dance and a few bubbles!)

    We are looking toward to the real thing in 12 months time!

    This week you were challenged with an amazing DT project to help win a new climbing frame for our school as part of a nationwide competition.

    A reminder for those who are planning to start next week:

    It is very important that before you start, you do an assessment first which will put you on the right level. To do this, go to 'My Lessons' and ‘Placement Test’. This will set you off on your own personalised learning pathway which will track your progress as you work through the lessons. It is very important that you take this test on your own and do your best so that the right level is set for you.

    I would love to hear how you are all getting on. I have set up a Forum on the Class 4 DB Page so you can share your thoughts on Reading Eggspress. Enjoy and good luck!

    VE Day

    This week is also special, as I am sure you are aware, as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. Our Early May Bank Holiday has been changed to Friday (today) in honour of this. There are lots of ideas and inspiration online so the children can learn about this important celebration and complete an activity to celebrate. Find more information in the links below on the history of VE Day and why we celebrate. When you have learnt about the reason and the importance behind the celebration, you could create a poster about VE Day or write a report on the history of VE Day. Why not try making some celebration bunting or decorations that may have been used at the street parties? You could even make a Union Jack flag to wave! Or why not try some VE Day recipes or make some VE Day celebration cakes?     Hi Class 4 and families – How is it Friday again already? The weeks seem to be speeding up!

    Thank you to all the children and families who have been in touch on DB this week. I have received some wonderful messages and pictures of some brilliant home learning. I am very impressed!

    This week has been Science week and children have been doing different daily challenges linked to ‘My world and me!’ If you have any work or photographs of what you have been up to, I would love to see them J Please email me on DB or send a message on the Class 4 Home Learning forum!

    Lily sent me this incredible picture of a nest of baby blackbirds in her back garden! She has been watching them grow up and fly away. Thanks so much for the photograph Lily – what an amazing thing to see in your garden! She is now learning about the lifecycle of birds and is going to draw a diagram. Excellent!

    I want to say a HUGE WELL DONE to Abigail who has earned her GOLD Mathletics certificate this week. This is not Abigail’s first gold certificate, or even her second… this is Abigail’s THIRD GOLD CERTIFICATE!! I am so so impressed.     I have had so many messages from children and parents saying how much you are loving the new Reading Eggspress subscription! I can tell how much you are all enjoying it because this week, Class 4 have spent a whopping 40.3 hours on it!! Amazingly, Matilda was on Reading Eggspess for 8.3 of these hours, Martha S 7.8 hours, Harry 6 hours and Hannah 4.8 hours! Well done to you all!

    Hello Class 4 and families!

    Thank you so much to everyone who has been in touch over the Easter break, sharing lovely messages and pictures of what you have been up to. They really made me smile!

    Well done to all the children who are working so hard on their home learning. You will have noticed from the school newsletter this week, that from now on will we have a weekly subject focus. This week we started with English and your task was linked to one of our favourite books, ‘Until I met Dudley!’

    Did you come up with any imaginative, innovative inventions that would be most beneficial to help yourself or others during the Coronavirus lockdown?

    If so, please post them on the DB Primary Home Learning forum for everyone in Class 4 to see. 

    So far, I have received 2 amazing entries from Eddie and Hugh.

    Eddie has designed a 'PPE Protect' face mask using a drinks bottle and has written a wonderful set of instructions to go with it.

    Hugh has invented a solar powered robot friend to cheer you up during the lockdown!

    Reading Eggs and Reading Eggspress

    This week, you have all received an email from me about our new subscription ‘Reading Eggspress’. On this email you will find your username and password to log in.

    It is a brilliant new site to help with your reading and comprehension.

    You can have a go at completing reading comprehensions, reading lessons, spelling lessons as well as vocabulary and grammar challenges. Reading Eggspress is more targeted at KS2 - so try this one first!

    There are also live games and an online library of over 1000 books and lots more!

    Well done to Martha S, Hannah, Matilda, Penny, Harry, Lucy, Henry and Abi who have already logged in and had a go.

    It is very important that before you start, you do an assessment first which will put you on the right level. To do this, go to 'My Lessons' and ‘Placement Test’. This will set you off on your own personalised learning pathway which will track your progress as you work through the lessons. It is very important that you take this test on your own and do your best so that the right level is set for you.

  • Friday 3rd April (Miss Taylor)

    Hello Class 4 and families, 

    I hope you are all well and taking good care of each other. It is so strange not being at school every day but I have loved reading all of your messages on our Class 4 forum on DB. It sounds like you are all doing very well and keeping very busy! Thank you so much to all the children who have replied to my emails and posted in the forum - It has really put a smile on my face! I have seen so much amazing work and I know you are all trying so hard with your home learning. 

    Remember to keep checking your emails on DB Primary for messages from me (and Penny!), pictures, challenges and ideas for home learning. I will regularly post new topics on the Class 4 forum page too for you to respond to. 

    This week me and Penny have been learning many new skills and tricks! Yesterday, Penny learnt how to "Roll over" and I learnt how to bake a delicious Oreo Cheese Cake! If you would like the recipe, please send me an email! If you have any recipes or ideas you'd like to share with me, that would be great too! I plan on doing lots more baking over the Easter holidays. (Penny will be working on her rolling over!)

    Dear Class 4, 

    It is hard to believe it has only been a week since I last saw you all - it seems like much longer!

    I hope you are all well and taking care.

    Thank you to all the children who have replied to my forum on the Class 4 DB page - I have loved seeing all your amazing work and hearing about all the exciting things you have been up to.

    I will add new topics to this forum regularly - keep your eyes peeled! This week, Penny the Westie has been asking you to research the amazing advenures and expeditions of Sir Ernest Shackleton! What do you know about them? Share your learning on the forum thread for all of Class 4 to see!

    Don't forget, you can email me via DB Primary at any time - For help with your work, for ideas for home learning or just to say hello! I have received many dog pictures this week and I love them! I bet your pets are loving you all being at home for the extra attention. I know Penny certainly is!!

    For your home learning, remember to use your Mathletics login. I have assigned you all new tasks and mini assessments, as well as uplevelling your learning! (If you feel like you would like more of a challenge, please just let me know!) DB Primary has some good Tasks set too!

    To my Year 4 family, 

    It is hard to believe that I will not be seeing many of you for a short while after today...

    I love spending time with you and teaching you each and every day. I love it when you learn new things and I love seeing the pleasure you take in your achievements. I am going to miss you and our classrooom so much, but I know it won't be long before things go back to normal.

    I trust that you will continue with your home learning and I can't wait to hear about what you get up to. 

    If you log on to DB Primary, I have set up a forum on the private Class 4 page so we can keep in touch! You can share photos of your learning with me, tell me how you are and what you have been up to. You can also keep up to date with all of your friends! I have also sent you many 'Tasks' to keep you busy and on track with your learning. There are maths activities, Roman activities, spellings, computer programming etc. If you need any help, you can email me through the DB homepage! You can also send messages to Mrs Daniel as well as the other teachers and teaching assistants. If you have a message for anyone you can't find on the list, please send it to me and I'll make sure they get it. 

    Today we have made rainbows to display in our windows at home. A rainbow is a symbol of hope. After a storm, there will always be something good. If you are walking with your family for exercise, I wonder if you will spot any rainbows in windows from our All Saints' family? 

    We have also made friendship bracelets for each other as a reminder of our friends and how much we care about each other. 

    Mrs Daniel and I have also made you a special bookmark to take home to remind you to keep up your excellent reading!

    Hello!

    It's been a very eventful week in Class 4 this week!

    We have enojyed:

    -Building Roman Roads

    - No Pens Day Wednesday

    - Brass lesson

    - Cricket lesson

    - Drama

    - Video making

    Amongst all the fun, we have learnt so much! 

    We are most proud of our writing this week. Miss Taylor showed us all a picture on Monday. It was a group of chidren walking through some very snowy and icy conditions. We had to work out who they were, how they knew eachother, where they were going, who had sent them and what happened next...

    We all planned amazing stories with a clear beginning, middle and end and we can't wait to write them up next week!

    We are also going to be entering our stories into Marple Young Writers' Competition at Marple Stationary Supplies. Look out for our work!

    As we approach the end of the Spring term, we'd like to remind everyone to keep working on their ice-cream targets. This term, our 'bowl' target was to read at least 5 times a week. This is part of our homework so it is a very important target to achieve. Children who do this regualry will be rewarded with an ice-cream party!

    Homework club is on a Wednesday before school if you would like more practise!

    Good afternoon!

    This week we have been learning about Ernest Shackleton in preperation for our class trip to Castleton. Ask us about his amazing adventures and expeditions!

    In Maths we have been learning about the bus stop method.

    In English we most enjoyed reading Brightstorm by Vashti Hardy. Also in English we have been learning about reading vipers to help our comprehension.

    Today we played cricket in PE with Francis. We really enjoyed it and can't wait until next week. Kaiden said it was excellent and exciting. 

    Next Thursday is World Book Day! Please remember to dress up as your favourite book character or bring in a pair of comfy socks for story share time! Please also bring in one of your favorite books from home to share with us.

  • Friday 14th February (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone! 

    Happy Friday and last day of term! (and Valentine's Day!)

    This week has been lots of fun in Year 4. We have enjoyed taking on the BBC 500 Word Missions by completing lots of challenges. Our favourite one was called 'Problem Solved!' where we were each given a problem and had to think of a way we could solve it. Our favourites were a lion with tooth ache who visits a terrified dentist and an invisible boy who desperately wants to join in a football match. We had some brilliant solutions! Next, we started to write our own imaginative stories and we made sure to hook the reader with our brilliant opening paragraphs!

    In maths, we have continued to work on our formal method for multiplication. We are so glad we know our times tables because it makes it much easier!!

    Next term, we are looking forward to our residential trip to Castleton. We will be learning all about Castleton and the High Peak by using OS maps, grid references and map reading skills. We will also be learning about famous explorers to inspire us! 

    KIT LIST - This was sent home with all children on Wedesnday along with all the key information for the trip. Please ask if you need another one!

  • Friday 7th February (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon!

    This week, Class 4 have had a brilliant time working on their 'Moving Mayan Monster' DT projects. These moving monsers move using either a hydraulic or pneumatic system! We started by looking at different objects that also use these systems to work and then investigated how they might work using 2 syringes and a tube. After a while, we were all able to do it! Next, we planned our monsters and used our knowledge of the hydraulic/ pneumatic system to incorporate into our very technical designs! After our plan and design time, we had to follow some (very complicated) instructions to build our structures. The final products look amazing! We will post some pictures next week. 

    Class 4 are very eager and excited to enter the BBC2 500 word story writing competition next week. This week, we did the BBC Live Lesson in preparation and already have some brilliant ideas!

    In maths, we have been working on the formal method for multiplication - It is a good job we know our times tables as it has made it much easier for us!!

  • Friday 31st January (Mrs Daniel)

    Welcome to class 4's blog,

    Can you believe it's the end of January already? It doesn't feel like five minutes ago we we're all looking forward to Christmas!

    Well they do say time flys when you're having fun and we certainly have a lot of fun in class 4.

    We have been learning how to multiply two digit numbers by a one digit number efficiently. We now know several ways to do this and can easily and quickly multiply numbers like 87 x 6. Ask your children to show you how they do it.

    We have been reading our class novel 'Brightstorm' and doing work based on what we have read so far. It's starting to get very exciting and we can't wait to read about the adventure Maudie and Arthur are about to embark on. Will they be chosen to go to South Polaris or will they have to go back to the Slumps and live as servants at Beggins Hall? Hopefully we will find out next week.

    In French we are starting to learn about transport and holidays. We are learning to say how we travel to school in French and build sentences using what we have already learnt. We are also looking at the similarities between the French words and our words like 'autobus, train and taxi'. 

    PSHE had us thinking about our dreams and goals. We talked about how to achieve them and how to cope with disappointment if something doesn't work out how we would like it to. We thought about resilience and what it means. We are all working hard to be resilient and keep going even when things get tough. 

    This afternoon we are tasting and comparing Mexican drinking chocolate like the Mayans drank and the chocolate we drink today. What a wonderful way to end the week.

  • Friday 24th January (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon, 

    We can't believe that our third week back has flown by so quickly!

    We have had great fun this week in Year 4...

    We are really getting into our new class novel 'Brightstorm - A Sky-Ship adventure'. It is about 2 twins called Maudie and Arthur who find out some tragic news about their explorer father, Ernest Brightstorm. They make it their mission to find out the truth about that happened on his expedition to the South Pole! We can't wait to read chapter 5 on Monday!

    It is great to see that so many children have saved up their pocket money to buy the book. It can be found on Amazon for £5 and it really is a superb read!

    In history, we have been learning about primary and secondary sources of evidence and how they can be used to help us learn about the past. We each had a different secondary source painting by Catheric Frederick and used it to learn more about Mayan life. It was interesting to be a historian for the day!

    We have also started dance lessons this week and used an image of explorers to inspire our movements. We are looing forward to continuing our routines next week. A count of 8 is very important!! 1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8  1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8  1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8

  • Thursday 16th January (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone and a happy new year from all of us!

    We have had an incredibly busy start to 2020 and we start as we mean to go on... 

    As part of our new whole school topic, 'Long, long ago...' we have started learning all about the Ancient Mayans. We have already learnt all about their civilisation and located it on a map. We also enjoyed learning about the history of Mayan art and used power paint to recreate a Mayan mural frescoe. 

    In English, we have started a new class novel called Brightstorm. So far we know that it is about 2 child who have a Dad who is a polar explorer. He goes off on an adventure and we know there is a twist in the story. We love the sound of it so far and can't wait to find out what happens next!!

    In maths, we are learning all about multiplication and have been solving lots of problems! We are working so hard to learn our times tables and to beat our Soundcheck score. 

    This term we have our Castleton trip coming up and we are looking forward to finding out all about it!!

  • Friday 29th November (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been focussing on our 2 science experiments. 

    First, we Miss Taylor told us that she wanted to find the fizziest drink to serve at her wedding and that the drink with the most carbon dioxide in it was likely to be the fizziest. We had to set up a comparative investigation to compare the amount of carbon dioxide in several fizzy drinks. We did this by weighing each drink when they were unopened and full of fizz (carbon dioxide). We then shook them up every day to let out all the fizz until they were completely flat. We weighed the drinks again and used our column subtraction to work out the difference between the two weights. This told us that the drink with the most carbon dioxide in it was Diet Coke! Kodie, Kaiden and Oliver were correct in their predictions!

    Miss Taylor, we hope we did a good job in finding the fizziest drink and we hope you enjoy serving it to all your guests at the wedding! 

    Next, Miss Taylor put is in charge of the wedding catering (You wouldn't guess our teacher was getting married!!) She told us that she wanted to serve delicious chocolate crispy cakes but there isn't much time so they need to be made fast. We had to set up an investigation to see which temperature melted the chocolate the fastest. We were able to use our scientific knowledge of how the particles in solides, liquids and gasses behave to come to a scientific conclusion. We then wrote to Miss Taylor with all our findings and advice!

    I wonder what she will have us doing next week to help plan the wedding! 

    In English, we have been taking on the role of 'film critics' and writing a film review of Peter Rabbit. We have used creative comparisons to make them more exciting. 

    "If this film was an ice-cream, it would be mint choc chip because of the green grass and the tall, brown trees. The rabbits are like choc chips running through the grass." Oliver and Zac

    "If this film was an animal it would be a dolphin because it is a playful, jolly and heart-warming film."

    "If this film was a book it would be Billionnaire Boy because Thomas McGregor reminds me of the Grubbs because they are both really mean to the main character." Abigail.

  • Friday 15th November (Miss Taylor)

    This week has been just as busy as last week!

    We have been practising column addition in maths. We need to make sure we put each number in the right column each time! We can now add four digit numbers and carry over.

    We have been reading our class novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom' and only have one chapter left. It's so exciting. Will Michael leave the island? 

    We can't wait to find out.

    Our Trashion show outfits are starting to take shape. We have started to put them together for our show next week. We are making good use of all the rubbish and trash brought in. We are going to look amazing in them. Watch this space for pictures next week.

    We were very lucky to have a samba workshop on Wednesday afternoon. We played instruments and learnt four rythyms and played them to parents. It all sounded fabulous.

  • Friday 8th November (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon! 

    This week has been busy as usual is Class 4. On Monday, we enjoyed a special day all about WW2. We were visited by Mr Kenna who talked to us about his father who had been in the war. He brought in so many artefacts and photographs for us to see and we were so moved by his intersting stories of bravery and courage. We also had the opportunity to move around the different KS2 classes to do some WW2 art with Mrs Day, Code Breaking with Mr McShane and poetry with Mrs Cochrane. 

    On Thursday, we were visited by 'The Recycling Superhero' and took part in a special recycling workshop. We were tested on our knowledge of recycling with a game of 'WHO WANTS TO BE A BINNIONAIRE?' I think it is safe to say that The Recycling Superhero was very impressed! 

    This week, we have also been preparing for our KS2 TRASHION SHOW which we'll be holding in school for children on Tuesday 19th Novemeber. We have researched existing products and investigated ways we can turn our 'trash' into fashion. Class 4 will be working with the theme 'Trashion Wedding'. We will be working as a team to create a wedding dress made from trash alongside dressing to impress as wedding guests/ bridesmainds/ page boys / groomsmen in fancy 'trashionable' outfits. Miss Taylor is looking forward to taking to the catwalk in her trash wedding dress - If it is good she may even use it as the real thing! 

    If you have any trash materials you think may be suitable for out Trashion Show, please bring them in next week. (Thank you Abigail for your old net curtains which we are looking forward to turning into a veil!) 

    NEXT WEEK:

    - Anti-bullying week. The children will be learning about different aspects of anti-bullying and keeping safe throughout the week during circle times and class discussions.  

    - Times Tables Rock Stars competition 'Rock Out 2019'. Please log on and play as much as possible!! (See letter for info) 

    - On Wednesday we will be taking part in a Drumming Workshop. Parents are invited to a showcase of the day at 2:45 in the school hall. 

    - On Thursday there is a parent internet satety session in the hall led by Tanya Cross. Please try to attend this session for more information on how to keep your child safe online. 1:15-2:15

    - Parent drop-in. Following this session there will be a drop-in session for parents to catch up with class teachers. CPG books will also be available to purchase. I hope to see lots of you there for a chat! 

    - On Friday we are holding a 'Dress down day' for a donation towards our Road Safety campaign.

  • Friday 1st November (Miss Taylor)

    What an amazing first week back we have had! 

    We have been so busy. In maths we have been looking at rounding whole numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. We played lots of games to help us.

    In literacy we tried to understand how Kensukie, one of the main characters in our class novel, feels about Micheal turning up on his island. We also offered Micheal, the other main charachter, advice on his dilema and whether he should try to leave ti island or not.

    On Wednesday we were very lucky to have a bee workshop. We learnt lots of amazing facts about bees. We also saw honey combs made by bees and found out how important bees are. Did you know that every bee has it's own job to do and every bee is important to keep the colony alive?

    In French we have been researching what Armistice Day means to French people. We then made poppies and wrote our thanks in French to the soldiers who went to war.

    Wow, what an amazing week we have had!

    In science this week we have been looking at the impact our actions could have on the environment and other living thing's habitats.

    Polution, deforestation and new buildings to name but a few.

    I'm sure you know it has been 'Church Week' this week and we have been up to church to take part in some incredible activities.

    We have been learning all about God's Colourful Creation. From archery, stained glass window stories and colourful flower drawings to colourful prayers, singing and bell ringing. We have done it all! Class 4 would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers at church who helped to make this week so special.

    We are finishing the week with our very exciting colour run. We hope to see lots of beautiful colour everywhere and celebrate what a wonderful world we live in.

  • Friday 11th October (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon!

    We can't believe it is Friday already - The weeks are whizzing by so quickly. 

    This week Class 4 have been working really hard on their creative writing. We saw a beautiful picture of a desert island with 4 people on the beach. Miss Taylor gave us a story starter and our job was to finish the story. We loved Lily's story which involved the four people being contestants on a reality game show. We are looking forward to hearing the end!

    In Science, we have been learning about classification keys. We carried out an Invertebrate Hunt in our local environment and used a classification key to help us identify the bugs that we found. It was really fun!

    Trashion Show

    After half term, Class 4 will be getting ready for our Trashion Show! Please start collecting any recycled materials (Trash) you think might be useful when creating our trashionable master pieces! Plastic bottles, carrier bags, bubble wrap, magazines, crisp packets, bottle tops, card etc.

    Castleton

    Thank you to everyone who has paid their deposit for our Castleton residential trip. Hopefully you now have all the inforfmation you need about our trip but should you have any questions, please just ask. 

    Reading homework 

    Well done to all the children who have been reading 5 times or more this week and remembering to record in their reading records. Please remember to keep up the reading each week as part of your homework. 

    Church Week 

    We are really looking forward to our annual Church Week next week and our very exciting Colour Run next Friday! I hope to see lots of you there.

    We have had another fantastic week in Class 4! I am so proud of how well my new class have adapted to the new challenges and routines in Year 4. They have had an excellent start to the Year and I am confident it's going to be a super year full of happy, smiling, hard working children. 

    Next week is the Year 4 Meet the Teacher meeting - I hope to see lots of you there on Thursday 26th September at either 3:30 or 6pm. Hopefully this will answer lots of your questions and give you an insight into what it's like as a day in the life of a Year 4 pupil.

    Hi! Lilian and Henry here,

    This week we have been very interested  in our topic work, we have been looking at deforestaion. Also how to prevent even more trees getting chopped down because there are animals who need the forest to survive.

    This week in maths we are learning to repersent numbers in different ways. Eg: as blocks or counters. We have been finding 1000 more or less and solving tricky challenges using reasoning.

    In french we have been learning a song called Une soiris verte. It was Tres Bien! 

    In English, we have been reading Kensuke's Kingdom. It is very dramatic and we enjoy reading it. This week we did some drama and hotseating. Isaac did a great job as Micheal. We can't wait to find out what happens next!

    We are looking forward to swimming this afternoon. 

     

     

  • Friday 6th September (Miss Taylor)

    Hello and welcome to Year 4!

    I am so excited to welcome you back for a new year at All Saints’. I hope you have had a wonderful and restful holiday and are as excited as I am for the year ahead.

    This week we have been busy learning all about Year 4 and getting to grips with the new rules and routines. The class have really enjoyed learning about our treasure jar rewards and have already earnt so much treasure that the jar is half full! We have also been getting very creative and artistic and enjoyed completing a collaborative art project. Each member of our class team was given a square to create and when we put them all together they made a huge busy bee! We are going to stick them together and display it on our class ceiling to remind us all to keep busy like the bees! We also took a trip to our school library in search of new reading books and library books. These are coming home this weekend so I hope you enjoy reading them. (Remember to comment in your reading records when you do!) 

    The class have also been getting cosy in their reading socks while enjoying our reading time at the end of the school day. We have started to read Billionaire Boy by David Walliams. It is funny but very silly and a little rude! 

    It has been lovely getting to know my new class this week - What a lively and enthusiastic bunch! I am sure we are going to have so much fun this year.

    Friday 14th June 2019

    So as you are all aware Bob happened this week smileysmiley If you are wondering who Bob is, he is our class pet.

    Bob is a juvenile Leopard gecko.

    It was the children's idea to have a class pet. In order to convince us to have a pet they had to research different pets and a Gecko was a fab  choice. The next step was to persuade Mr McShane that it would be a great idea. The children we're able to work together and write a persuasive letter to him and the reply was recieved quite quickly, with a definite and resounding yes ! from Mr McShane and his cat smiley

    The next stage was to work out how we could buy a gecko ? How much we would need ? How much is the up keep of a gecko including his weekly food bill ? Who will clean him out ?Who wil look after in the holidays ?and where would Bob go next year ? 

    Phew !

    Was cried as we manage to work out all the answers to these questions.

    Maria from The Hound Dog Grooming Spa on Market Street needed some window display's. So quick thinking Miss Taylor decide to offer class 4's help, of course money exchanged hands and Bob arrived after 3 window display's  had been completed.

    You may have seen photo's of Bob on the Parent's Facebook page, another update this weekend as we have completely made over Bob's habitat.

    Bob is settling in very well, it's only taken 3 days for him to stop hiding in the trees. He was first spotted on Thursday under the cave chilling out waiting for the children to arrive.

    The class 4 team have also become slightly obsessed with Bob  wink

    Class 4 are now truly proud parent's.

  • Friday 24th May (Miss Taylor)

    Hello! 

    We can hardly believe it is already the last day of term. We have certainly ended it in style with our awesome Active Week!

    We have been even more busy than usual!

    Today we were joined by Dr. Simon Evans who is a Sports Scientist from Manchester United. He taught us about how he uses a GPS tracking device with the players to see who runs the fastest and furthest during games. We all had a go at wearing the GPS vests and he created a graph to show who was the fastest. For Man United players, a sprint is classed as anything above 25km an hour. In our class, both Isaac and Kieran did this and Freya was very close!! It was really fun and intestering. He also led a typical Man United warm up which included football specific movements that the players undertake before they go out to train. 

    Next, we were joined by a Stockport County coach who led another football session! It's a good job we love football in Class 4!

    - Rugby

    The children have all been brilliant and I am so proud of them all. They certainly all deserve a well earned rest.

    Hello everyone, 

    This week Class 4 have been working hard on their Summer tests. Miss Taylor was really impressed with us all and we have all improved our scores!

    We finally finished our lighthouse DT project and amazingly everyones lighthouse lit up! We watched a video about the top 10 most famous lighthouses in the world and used this to inspire when painting our own and adding the finishing touches. We think they look amazing!

    This afternoon, Mrs Gaynor came into class to read our Lighthouse writing because she has heard so much about it! She was really impressed by it and we all got a special Headteacher sticker.

  • Friday 10th May (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon, 

    It has been a short but busy week this week in Class 4!

    The children have been working incredibly hard on their extended writing using the clip ‘The Lighthouse’. We have made sure to include exciting vocabulary, accurate grammar and a thrilling build up and ending. We wrote in so much detail that we managed to write almost 3 or 4 (or 5!!) pages and had very aching hands by the end of the week!

    In maths, we have been learning how to measure and calculate the area and perimeter of shapes. We worked with a partner to solve lots of tricky challenges and problems.

    In D&T, we have been continuing our light-up Lighthouse project by incorporating a circuit with a bulb into our model. We used foil and cardboard to create a switch – fingers crossed they all work when we add the battery and finishing touches next week!

    Did anyone spot any familiar faces on the ITV news last night?

    Please see the Ping sent out this afternoon to see Tyler and Class 4 in action with Man City last week! A huge well done to Tyler, you were fantastic! We hope you enjoy your time at Wembly Football Statium tomorrow as a Mascott for Man City Women. 

    This week Class 4 have enjoyed getting creative and using their DT skills to make a light-up lighthouse linked to our lighthouse writing in English. We look forward to continuing this next week. Please ask us about it!

  • Friday 26th April (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone and welcome back to our final term in Year 4!

    I can’t believe how quickly time flies when you are having fun! We have had such a great time so far this year so let’s make this final term our best one yet.

    This term our topic is ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious Food!’ It sounds like it’s going to be a very delicious term and it’s making us hungry just thinking about it. Please see the Summer Term newsletter for more information about what we will be up to this term.

    We have already started this term off in style with our amazing Manchester City in the Community visit on Wednesday afternoon. Tyler wrote to footballer, Tessa Wullaert, as part of a persuasive writing task to invite our inspirational people into school. Tessa was very touched by the letter and was very keen to surprise Tyler. (She certainly did just that!!) Before Tessa arrived, the Manchester City coaches led a football session with the whole class and taught us some brilliant skills. The ITV team were here to capture it all on camera and it is going to be shown next Friday at 6pm on Granada Reports - Please look out for us! Well done Tyler for such a fantastic job!

    Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our Open Morning this morning. The children were all very excited to share their memories, art work and reflections with you. I hope you enjoyed Mrs Wilson's video and also seeing all of our photos. I have uploaded many of these photos to DB Primary.   • Friday 29th March (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon,

    We have had a very quiet day today in Class 4 after our huge Castleton adventure. We had a fantastic time and I am so proud of all the children. They showed so much care, bravery, resilience and courage and were a real pleasure to take away.

    On Wednesday, we started our trip with a mighty hike from Edale to Castleton. The weather was superb and we enjoyed a break at the top to take in the glorious views. When we arrived at the Hollowford Centre we begin our activities;

    • Zip Wire
    • Archery
    • Obstacle course
    • Team Games

    Next, it was time for tea (a highlight of the trip for many of the children!) The children were incredibly polite and well behaved in the dinner hall. We enjoyed either sausage and mash, fish pie or lentil loaf followed by a delicious chocolate cake and ice-cream.

    At 6:30 it was time to get ready for night time caving. We got on our caving suits, helmets and head torches and set off on 3 mini coaches. It was dark when we arrived and very exciting! We first leant all about how caves are formed, what they are made out of and what we might see inside. We took our time and started the expedition inside. I was so impressed by how brave all the children were, not to mention their incredible support and encouragement towards each other – a real team! At the bottom of the cave it opened up into a large chamber with a waterfall. We were given the option of turning off our head torches to experience total pitch black darkness. Most groups took on the challenge and counted up to 30 seconds.

    When we got back to our Class 4 house at the Hollowford Cenre, ‘Back Tor,' we got on our pyjamas and Mr Granite made everyone a hot chocolate. Miss Taylor read us the next chapter of our class book ‘Billionaire Boy’ as a bedtime story and then we had 30 minutes time in our rooms before lights out at 10pm. Most children fell asleep before then as they were so exhausted after such a hectic day!! Other children stayed up a little longer…

    During the night, the Castleton tooth fairy paid a visit to Lois. Her tooth fell out during the day and she put it under her pillow as usual. In the morning, Lois found that the tooth fairy had been and left £1 under her pillow. Strangely, she also left the tooth behind too which meant that Lois could get two visits from the tooth fairy and now has £2! Lois, Lily and Freya couldn’t wait to tell Miss Taylor at 5:50am the next day!

    On Thursday morning, we took all of our bedding to the laundry and made our way to breakfast. We enjoyed cereal and fruit followed by a delicious full English breakfast! We then took part in the High Ropes course and some children did Rock Climbing too.

    After lunch, we set off on our hike to Hope station. It was a lovely, sunny day and we enjoyed taking our time and talking about our highlights of the trip.

    We would love to share our hightlights and photos of the trip with you all and would like to invite you into school during the first week back. We will hold a mini Open Morning for Class 4 families on Friday 26th April from 9am – 9:30. We look forward to seeing you there!

    Thank you to all the families who supported our trip and prepared the children so well. It was a real success and such an enjoyable experience for all.

  • Friday 15th March (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon,

    This week we have enjoyed making our writing sound super exciting by using a variety of sentence types. We have learnt 3 new Alan Pete sentences including;

    2A rule

    Emotion word, comma

    The more, the more

    Miss Taylor was so impressed with our new and improved sentences and we can’t wait to use them in our extended writing next week!

    In maths, we have been learning to order and compare decimal numbers. We did some very tricky reasoning and problem solving! We have also been working on our 7 times table using a funky song. Please keep practising at home.

    In Science, we have been learning about sound and we enjoyed carrying out an experiment on how different pitches are made. Next week, we hope to make our own guitar – It would be great if you could bring in any boxes to help us with this. (Tissue boxes work really well!)

  • Friday 8th March (Miss Taylor)

    Hi everyone, class 4 here. As you will see, we have had a very busy week. This is what we have been up to:

    On Monday, we started our writing on Sir Ernest Shackleton about his life and his expedition. We used the laptops to collect our research. 

    On Tuesday, we did some maths which was very exciting. We did rounding decimals to the nearest whole number.

    On Wednesday, we started an art project challenge to help raise more money for our potential class pet. We created Easter art for a window display at the Hound Dog Grooming Salon. Keep your eyes peeled for it when you are out and about in Marple.

    On Thursday, it was World Book Day and we had a crazy Doby which was Ethan and lots of Harry Potters .

    Today, we are finishing our Ernest Shackleton report and in the afternoon we have brass.

  • Friday 1st March (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone and welcome back to our Spring term 2!

    The children all came back to school with a spring in their step and I’m so impressed with all the reading and tables tables practise that has been going on over the half term break.

    This half term we will be embarking on our Castleton adventure. I hope that the children are all as excited as Mrs Eva, Mrs Wilson, Miss Daley, Mr Granite and myself!! Next week, we will be using maps to learn all about Castleton and preparing for our trip. Please ask if you have any questions! 

    This week, we have been securing our knowledge of tenths and hundredths in maths and using our reasoning and problem solving skills to take on a challenge. The children showed a great deal of resilience and proved that they are fantastic at working as a team. 

    In English, we have been writing persuasive letters to our significant and inspiration people to invite them into our school. We hope to receive some replies and maybe even a visit to our school! The children were incredibly persuasive- it’ll be very difficult to turn their offer down. 

    In Science, we have started our new topic on sound. This started with a ‘Sound Walk’ around school. The main thing we learnt was that our school can be a very noisy place at times!

    Hello and Happy New Year!

    This week we have been learning about lots of significant and inspirational people. We enjoyed learning about important people from the past, as well as ones who are alive today. We had to teach Miss Taylor about the You Tubers we know!

    We also started our new history topic on the Rotten Romans! We are learning about the history of Italy and Rome. The class has already learnt a lot about Julius Ceasor and lots of many other amazing and astonishong Roman Emperors. 

    We are looking forward to dressing up on Monday and learning lots about other significant people.

    Today, we recieved our spellings. Please get learning them because our first test is on Wedensday!

  • Monday 17th December (Miss Taylor)

    Hello and Merry Christmas!

    We are certainly in the Christmas spirit in Class 4! We are enjoying our last few busy days before we break up for the Christmas holidays. Last week, we enjoyed following a recipe to create pawsome festive dog biscuits for our pooches and for the local pet shops. They turned our really well and we were really impressed with the finished product. Thank you to Charlie and Bella who did a fantastic job of packaging and labelling them! We then went into Marple and sold what we had left to the local pet grooming spa ‘The Hound’ and we managed to make £25!!! The class voted on what we should spend our money on and the outcome was… a class pet! This is still to be negotiated! I’m very impressed with this super class of entrepreneurs and I hope your furry four-legged friends enjoyed their festive treats!

    In Maths, we have been learning about coordinates and plotting points on a grid to create Christmas shapes. We have also been practising our Times Tables on Times Table Rockstars – Please keep this up alongside Mathletics at home!

    This week your child will come home with the tests they did during Assessment Week. We have been through the questions and answers in class and it would be great if you could go through again with your child. I am so impressed with all the hard work all the children put in and the resilience they continue to show.

    I hope you enjoy our special Christmas Service at All Saints’ Church tomorrow night and on Wednesday afternoon and I am looking forward to seeing lots of you there.

  • Friday 23rd November (Miss Taylor)

    Hello again from Miss McConnell for one last time!

    I have had a wonderful 4 weeks with year 4 and would like you all to know that this really is such a special class and I have been overwhelmed by their kindness towards me, you should all be so very proud!

    As usual, we have had a very busy week. We had a very successful class assembly which we are so grateful for all of those who came to celebrate it with us. Both year 3 and year 4 really showed how hard they worked to create such a fantastic assembly about a very important part of our history.

    In English, we have been using our imagination and creating the most wonderful stories based on the mysterious bat creature featured in James and the Giant Peach.

    We also had a very special DT day on Thursday and we planned, designed and created our very own wobble toys. We worked really hard and followed all the instructions and our final pieces are something really special,

  • Friday 16th November (Miss Taylor)

    Happy Friday everyone! Miss McConnell, Charlie and Henry here to update you all on another eventful week with year 4.

    On Monday we walked to Marple’s Memorial Park to show our respect to the soldiers who have died during war. We made a film of our outing, which we will share with you all during our class assembly next Wednesday!

    For Tuesday’s art lesson we all made our own poppies. We used red felt and black glitter foam to make them, we are very proud about how they look.

    We also used our experience visiting the memorial park to inspire us to write acrostic poems about the war, we have some aspiring poets in year 4 for sure!

    In maths we have been working hard on rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. To help us remember our rounding rules we have learned the, ‘We Will ROUND You,’ rap.

    It has been anti bullying week and we have been learning all the ways we can show respect inside and outside school to our family and our friends.

  • Friday 9th November (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone, Miss McConnell, Katie and James here with you today. Wow, what a week we have had!! We cannot wait to share it all with you. I hope you enjoy this as much as we have doing it all.

    On Monday we celebrated a Diwali Assembly by Stockport Diversity Services this was a really colourful start to the week ahead.

    In English we continued reading James and the Giant Peach we created some marvellous character descriptions using expanded nouns and smiles.

    We have been rounding numbers in Maths and will continue this next week, rounding to the nearest 10,100 and 1000.

    We have completed our water cycle topic and we investigated how temperature effects the rate of evaporation. We finished the unit by making our own water cycle in sandwich bags for or window display. We will monitor these to see how our own water cycle works!

    We also had the honour of hosting a veteran’s assembly where we met some of our real life local heroes, this was fascinating. We are so lucky to have had this experience.

    The absolute highlight of our week was our year 3 and year 4 class trip to see, The Greatest Showman, this really was the greatest show!! We had such a wonderful time and when we returned we all became film critics and wrote a detailed film review of the movie.

  • Friday 2nd November (Miss Taylor)

    Hello, Miss McConnell, Isla and Finley here.

    Year 4 have been working extremely hard this week and we have a lot to share with you.

    I would like to say a big thank you to year 4 for welcoming me, Miss McConnell, to their classroom. I am delighted to continue my training with you all for the next three weeks.

    In English we have continued doing lots of reading of James and the Giant Peach. After shared reading of some chapters, we put our skim reading skills into action and searched for imagery and similes to describe the peach.

    With Miss McConnell we put our detective hats on and used our inference skills to create a character profile using a silent film clip called Oktapodi.  The film had no script our subtitles so we had to work really hard to infer what was happening and what the characters were experiencing.

    In Street Art we created some masterpieces that we can’t wait to unveil to you all on our parents evening…. but we are keeping that a secret until then!

    We took part in a group research project using our laptops and the school library to investigate the possible environmental dangers that cause problems to endangered species around the world. With this information we wrote a report of the dangers we found and solutions to how we can help solve these issues.

    The Water Cycle is our new topic in Science and to help us remember each stage key stage of the cycle we choreographed an evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection dance with Miss McConnell. This really was a fun start to our new topic.

    We finished our busy week off by swimming and everyone really enjoyed it.

  • Friday 12th October (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone. Katie and Freya here.

    We have enjoyed another busy week in class 4. We have been reading lots of James and the Giant Peach. Miss Taylor let us read a newspaper called London Echo and we found an article called, Rhino Rampage. It was about the tragic accident at London Zoo where a dangerous rhino escaped from his enclosure and ate James’ parents for lunch. We then decided to write letters to James to give our support and offer him advice about living with his evil Aunts. 

    In grammar, we learnt how to use the prefix ‘in’ and also expanded noun phrases. Look out for them in our writing!

    Wednesday was World Mental Health day and we learnt about how to deal with the big things and the little things in life. We also did a resilience challenge where we had to resist the urge to eat a mint and concentrate on our work which was really important.

    Next week is church week and we are looking forward to our harvest service on Friday.

  • Friday 5th October (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon, 

    It is hard to believe it is FRIDAY again!! The weeks are certainly whizzing by. 

    I am incredibly proud of how the children have settled into Year 4 so far. They have shown so much resilience, positivity and enjoyment and are a real pleasure to teach.

    This week we have been learning to use the formal method for addition. We had to solve ‘Penny’s Playground Puzzle’ on Monday morning. This involved following clues outside, solving addition calculations, unscrambling letters and finding Penny’s prize box. The clues she left led us to under the sink. Under the sink, we found a little box with a note saying, ‘Well done Class 4, you have found my yummy treats. Enjoy!’. We were disappointed that after all our hard work solving the clues she only left dog biscuits and bones… Dog’s certainly don’t know how to reward children! Luckily, there was an alternative choice of lollies. Well done Class 4 for solving the puzzle so sensibly and for working so well as a team.

    In English, we have been reading James and the Giant Peach. We enjoyed reading the descriptions of Aunt Spiker and Aunt Sponge and painting a detailed sketch of what we think they might look like. We have some amazing artists in Class 4!

    The children are doing really well with their reading homework and it’s great to see so many super comments in their reading records. Keep it up! Remember, 5 comments = 1 reading raffle ticket.

  • Sunday 30th September (Miss Taylor)

    Hello and welcome to all the new Year 4 children and parents. This is our first class blog this year and we’re unsure where to start... we have been SO busy!

    We have enjoyed getting stuck into our new topic, ‘Land, Sea and Sky’ and have been busy learning about lots of different animals and their land, sea and sky habitats! We used Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams to help us organise living things according to different criteria. We also learnt about MRS GREN and used this to help us remember the 7 life processes. Test your children on them tonight!

    In maths we have been identifying and representing numbers in different ways and playing lots of games with place value. We have enjoyed carousel activities and challenging each other.

    In English, we have been researching Roald Dahl and his life and have written a biography. Next week, we are starting our clsss Nobel James and the Giant Peach.

    Reading records and spelling lists have now gone home. Remember to read and comment as much as possible (5 comments will earn you a reading raffle ticket!) as well as learn your spellings and earn points on Mathletics.

  • Friday 20th July (Miss Taylor)

    This is Sasha and Conner. This week has been amazing. In maths , we have been looking at graphs and transferring shapes. As well as this , we have been looking at tally charts, which most of us found really easy and helpful . In science , we have been planting sunflowers and seeing whose will grow the tallest , we have also been investigating where plants grow the best. After this , we made a log to keep track of how fast the plants are growing. In discovery , our class have been researching about A girl called Malala who fought for girls to be able to go to school . It was quite upsetting but very interesting to see the change that she made . In PE , with Mr A , we have been trying activities such as Relays, bean bag throwing and long jumps . Everyone found it very fun .In circles , we have looked at what it is like to be in year 5 which was very interesting. Overall , this week has been really useful and we have had a fantastic time!

    Hi it`s Isabelle and Sasha.

    This week we have made presents for year 6 for their leavers service. We are looking forward to the service on Tuesday. We have also been practising something very special to perform!!

    We also spent some time reflecting on our year in Class 4 and incuded some writing for our reports. We can't believe how busy we have been this year!!!

    This afternoon, we are doing some First Aid training... You're all in safe hands from now on!!

    We have enjoyed such a busy and sunny week in Class 4!

    We have been getting into the Summer spirit by writing our very own Summer Time Poems, inspired by different poets. They are all brilliant and we are looking forward to performing them next week!

    We have also been learning about the World Cup as part of our English lessons - Did you know that the latest version of the World Cup trophy is 36.8m high and made of 18 carat gold, weighing 6.1 kg. That's heavy!! We hope that you enjoy watching the match tomorrow. Come on England!!!

    In maths we have been leaning about angles and shape. On Monday, we enjoyed a QR game outside using the iPads. We had to find the cards hidden around the playground and scan the code for a challenge. It was really fun. Today, we have invented a Go Fish game to help us classify triangles based on their properties. 

    We also had our transition morning this week and enjoyed spending time in Class 5, getting to know Mr McShane. We did some amazing art work and had fun popping balloons to reveal some maths challenges! It's going to be great fun next year and we're really looking forward to it.

    The Equality Matters Marple (EMM) team would like to say a big thank you to all the children and teaching staff who made us so welcome when the actor, Emily Capstick, gave her Gertrude Powicke performance on Tuesday at All Saints. If you’d like to discover more about the amazing work that women did in Marple 100 years ago, the Women’s Work exhibition is open at Marple Library until Friday 13th July.

    This Saturday morning, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, there is a free, family-friendly,  “Take a Closer Look” activity in the exhibition. Come along and handle objects from the First World War and discover the letters, newspaper articles and photographs that tell the inspiring story of Marple women’s determination and courage. No need to book, just drop in, we’d love to see you there!

     

     

     

  • Friday 22nd June (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon, 

    In Class 4 this week, we have enjoyed learning all about volcanoes! We learnt that:

    • Most volcanoes happen on fault lines, or cracks in the Earth's surface.
    • Most of the earth's volcanoes are in the Pacific Ocean, in an area called the Ring of Fire
    • The word “volcano” comes from Vulcan, the Roman god of fire.

    We also really enjoyed building our own volcanoes and erupting them on the school field! It was so much fun. We also had an amazing Christian workshop called 'Diary of a Disciple' led by Mrs Holton, Mr Currie, Mr Makin, Brenda and Mrs Zilstra. We did lots of fun activities incuding art, drama and puzzles. Thank you to all who came in to help us - We really enjoyed it!

    In English, we have started to draft a story about 'The Lady of the Garden.' We are looking forward to finshing them next week and sharing them with the class.

    In Maths, we have been learning to convert and compare different units of measure - Really tricky! We will keep on practising next week. 

    At home, please keep learning your times tables and doing lots of reading!

  • Friday 25th May (Miss Taylor)

    Hi Maddy here,

    This week was active week and it has been amazing.
    On Monday we started of with a 15 minute run (we did this every morning)
    We also had archery that was amazing.

    On Tuesday after our run we did a piece of art work as a poster for sports it was so fun that I did a mini happy dance in my head because I LOVE art. In the afternoon we did my favourite thing ever....Break dance. We also played Ultimate Frisbee with Miss Taylor which was super fun. We all loved it.

    On Wednesday we did orienteering and my partner was Leona and we came 4th and we worked great as a team. In the afternoon a nice lady came in and had a disco workout with us we loved it.

    On Thursday morning we planned and did orienteering with the year 2s they were so cute. In the afternoon we had sports day and black team won. 

    Today, we did some aerobics with Miss Taylor and Stockport County came in and did some football with us. We also made a card for Mr G to celebrate his new signing for Barrow FC. Well done Mr G, you're the best. We're all so proud of you.

    I hope you enjoyed the long and sunny bank holiday weekend! 

    We have managed to fit so much into such a small week!! On Tuesday, we were visited by our 'Mystery Reader' Mr Makin. We enjoyed hearing him read Tom Gates in the sunshine under the trees. 

    In English, we have been continuing to read Kensuke's Kingdom and writing a message in a bottle from Micheal's point of view. We are really proud of our writing and the progress that we have made!

    In Maths, we have been learning to round decimal numbers to the nearest whole number and also order and compare decimal numbers. We played a game with dice and enjoyed helping each other. 

    In Discovery RE we have been learning about Buddhism and exploring our key question, 'What is the best way for a Buddha to lead a good life?' We explored good choices and bad choices and linked to The Nobel Eightfold Path. 

    Today we had our final brass session before we perform to the school next week!

    This week we have been reading Kensuke`s Kindom because our topic is AROUND THE WORLD. We have also been doing decimal numbers and we are gettng really good at it. We have been learning how to round decimal numbers to the nearest whole number. Also we are getting ready for year five which is really eaciting. Mrs.Daniel showed pictures of the French artist Cezzane and we learnt a little bit about his life. We have also been skechting in his style and will paint them next week.     It’s hard to believe we are already in the Summer term. 

    This week we have started our new topic ‘Around the World’. We started by looking at the globe and using maps to locate the worlds countries. We also learned about the continents and oceans and did a quiz to test our knowledge.

    In English, we started reading our new class novel ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ about a family who sail around the world. We thought about the pros and cons of this and wrote a balanced argument. 

    Rory thought it would be great to travel the world because you could learn lots of new things about the world however Isabelle didn’t like the thought of it because of the lack of WiFi!

    We will write up our balanced arguments next week and take part in a class debate!

    In maths, we have been securing our knowledge of tenths and hundredths and learning how to divide single digit numbers by 10 and 100. We all showed so much resilience and enjoyed taking on different challenges.

    Sam Minihan from Stockport County came in yesterday to help celebrate the opening of our new school library. He brought lots of programmes and magazines for us to add to our library and we have enjoyed reading them this morning during our library time. 

    Our new homework grid and spellings are coming home tonight and can also be found on our class page.

  • Friday 23rd March (Miss Taylor)

    We have had a great week in Class 4 this week and have enjoyed using our knowledge of map reading and grid references to describe locations and plan routes using a compass. Next week we will be taking on lots of OS map challenges. Please feel free to test your children over the Easter holidays when out and about!

    Congratulations to ALEAH on her briliant star writing! Aleah takes so much pride and care in all of her work and this particular science experiment write up really shone. 

    Congratulations to DANIEL who is our Class 4 All Saints Super Star. Dan is such a caring and polite member of our class who makes everyone smile. Thank you Dan for all that you do. 

    Next week is a super busy end of term week! We have the 'Easter Experience' at All Saints' Church on Tuesday as well as our KS2 Easter service on Thursday which all families are invited to. We also have the spelling bee and ice-cream party on Thursday afternoon so make sure you practise your ice-cream spellings this weekend!

    Spellings, grid activity, Times Tables Rockstars and lots and lots of reading. Please remember to record your writing in your Reading Record so that we can have a big reading raffle on Thursday!

    Hi everyone,

    Can you believe a week has gone by since our epic adventure to Castleton?

    We have had a very exciting week sharing our highlights and favourite memories from our trip and we have loved putting together our assembly. 

    We have been writing postcards from our trip to Castleton to tell everyone all about the amazing trip and the exciting and nerve-wracking things we did - like zip wire, caving, obsticle course, high ropes, rock climbing and hiking. We all showed so much courage and bravery and Miss Taylor was very proud of us all.

    This morning was our class asssembly and we hope that you enjoyed it! We were all very nervous and have been trying hard to learn our lines.

    Dear all.

    It's hard to believe we are only one week into our Spring Two term - so much has happened already! We have been so busy learning about the life of Sir Ernest Shackleton and his amazing journey of endurance across Antarctica. This weather is certainly helping us to picture the amazing bravery and resilience of the team during their expedition.

    On our class page you will now see the new homework grid, newsletter and spelling lists for this term. In addition to this, please keep up your reading and practising your times tables!

    SNOW DAY

    What could you get up to on a snowy day at home?

    1.Make a snowman and take a picture. Write a character profile to go with it. Please feel free to send the pictures to me via DB so we can show the class on Monday! Penny and I are going to be busy making a snow dog this afternoon.

    2.Check the forecast for the next 10 days and write a weather report. What is the weather going to be like in Castleton?

    3.Spend some time getting organised for our trip to Castleton – Write a list of the things you will pack or start packing! Please see the kit list that went home on Monday for more information.

    4.Continue your research on Shackleton. Was his expedition a success? Was he part of any other famous expeditions?

    5.Research other famous explorers – Tell me about the journeys that they took.

    6.Login to Time Tables Rockstars to practise your times tables.

  • Friday 9th February (Miss Taylor)

    What a very busy week we have had!

    We have been learning how to use the 'Bus Stop' method to divide in maths. We can now divide larger numbers.

    It Literacy we have had a very exciting time writing our Native American myths. We now know why penguins can't fly and why snakes dont have legs as well as lots of other animal myths.

    This afternoon we have been very busy making our totem poles to represent our families. We hope you like them.

  • Friday 2nd February (Miss Taylor)

    This week class 4 have been busy getting stuck into their Native American topic. 

    In English, we have been learning about their myths and tales. We found out that they are usually do to with why things are the way the are and how they came to be. We also noticed that they are mostly about animals or nature as these were very important to Native Americans. Our favourites were:

    Why are flamingos pink?

    Why do moles live underground?

    Why do mosquitos bite?

    We then got busy working away on creating our own myths. We have a very talented and creative class who came up with some amazing ideas. Why do snakes have no legs? Why can’t penguins fly? Why do rhinos have a horn?

    On Thursday, we were joined by Mrs O’Shea from Marple Hall. She led a drama session for us about a Native American little girl. The children put on a fantastic show and I was so proud of how confident they all were. 

    In maths, we have been securing our knowledge of short multiplication by doing lots of reasoning and problem solving.

    It is very very important that you keep on practising your times tables!

    Well done to Reagan who is our super star this week!

    Hey guys,

    This week class 4 have been doing lots of fun things like writing up a Chester Zoo recount, making sure we included fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases. We have aslo made our own books about 'Nibbles the book Monster'.

    We were busy doing lots of  tests on Wednesday and in circles we talked about our hopes and dreams and about never giving up.

    In maths we have been learning about coordinates, using animals from Chester Zoo and finding them on a map.

    Hello everyone. We finally made it to Friday after such a busy week at All Saints. How we’ve crammed so much fun into one week is unbelievable!!!

    The All Saints’ Book Awards on Tuesday night proved to be a fabulous event full of glitz, glamour, laughter and awards. Well done to our winners:

    • Paige most improved reader
    • Caitlin most enthusiastic 
    • Josh best reading record
    • Isabelle best illustrator 
    • Dan best book review

    A huge well done also to all the children who took part - for working so hard and being so enthusiastic about reading! Thank you to everyone who came and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

    Yesterday, we were busy getting prepared for our trip to Chester Zoo. We learnt about coordinates in maths and planned a route around the zoo by giving the coordinates of the places we wanted to visit. It was great fun getting familiar with the map and learning about all the animals and habitats they have at Chester Zoo. We will continue our map work next week!

    In English, we created fronted adverbial booklets full of exciting and ambitious sentences ready to use in our write up next week. We chose an animal or zoo keeper and had to think of a sentence about them using a fronted adverbial. We challenged ourselves to include expanded noun phrases too and used thesauruses to chose more ambitious vocabulary. 

    In ICT, we researched our favourite animal at Chester Zoo and began creating a fact file about it. We learnt that there are a lot of endangered animals.

    Finally, and most importantly, today was our big whole school trip to the zoo. We are currently en route back to school after having the most brilliant day. The coach is full of exhausted children (and adults) excitedly sharing their highlights of the day - So many special and life long memories have been made! I’m sure you will hear all about them when they get home. 

    A big, big, big well done to all the children in class 4. I am so incredibly proud of you all. Your enthusiasm, friendship, care and  behaviour were impeccable! Real All Saints’ Super Stars!

    We are looking forward to starting our new topic ‘Amazing America’ next week. Please look out for the newsletter, spellings and homework grid coming home on Monday.

  • Friday 5th January (Miss Taylor)

    Hello everyone and welcome back!

    We have had such a busy and exciting week this week with our Book Awards WOW Week!

    We have been reading and working on 5 picture books all week. They are Danny McGee, The Dog Called Bear, Super Stan, Nibbles, The Koala who could. We wrote a book review about 'A Dog Called Bear'. We have also done some art work where we painted Danny McGee drinking different things like a waterfall, a fish tank and the sewers. We made advice booklets for 'The Koala Who Could' because he was too scared to come down from his tree.

    New homework and spellings will be sent home next week.

    For Chester Zoo next Friday please can you bring a rucksack with your lunch in.

  • Friday 15th December (Miss Taylor)

    Yo it`s Ben, Dan and Kieran here,

    Class 4 have been very busy this week getting ready for Christmas and catching up with work. On Wednesday, we made Christingles for our Church Service on Tuesday. We all needed an orange, some red ribbon, 4 sticks, sweets and raisins and a candle. We can't wait to show you these in Church.

    Yesterday, we had Janet from United Utilities leading a workshop all about WATER! We learned about the water cycle and where our water comes from and how it gets to our house from the sea. We also learned how to save water!! Did you know that the average person used 150 liters of water a day!!!! A bath uses 80 liters of water!!!! Don't forget to turn the tap off when you do your teeth. 

    We were all given some goodies to take home including a cool teeth timer and pencil pot. 

    We have also been making some cool Christmas cards with pop-up presents inside and 3D paper fairy lights.

    This afternoon we are having our achievement assesmbly and we are so proud of our class for achieving 100% behaviour certificates!

  • Friday 8th December (Miss Taylor)

    Hi it is Nicola and Aleah here this week.

    This week we have had a super exciting spelling bee in the hall. We had a class spelling bee each day to prepare and we are all now such super spellers. On Thursday the whole school we all went to the hall to compete!! The top 5 from each class. They were so good we had to get the year 5/6 words out. Our Spelling Bee Champion was Zac who took home the trophy. Well done Zac and well done everyone. 

    We also had the ice-cream spelling party and we got ice-cream if we earned our ice-cream target. It was yummy!!!

    Keep up the practising at home. 

    In English, we learnt about the features of non-fiction books and then wrote our own about water. Mine had facts, pictures and an envelope you could pull facts out of. Some had pop-ups, lift up flats and pull tabs. It was great.

    In maths, we have been learning about the area and perimeter of shapes. Do you know the difference? Do you know how to work it out? Ask your child!

  • Friday 1st December (Miss Taylor)

    We’ve had a wonderful week in Class 4 this week - The children are such a pleasure to work with and make my job so enjoyable! 

    The children have loved carrying out their science experiments this week and were particularly keen to find the melting point of chocolate by heating it at different temperatures. Their results and findings were especially impressive as we used a table and then plotted the results on a graph. Next week we be writing up our scientific conclusions! 

    We’re really getting into our class book ‘Grandpa’s Great Escape’ by David Walliams now which makes our reading time extra exciting. Don’t forget to bring in your reading socks or sippers!! 

    Next week will be all about spelling... spelling Bees and spelling ice cream parties. Make sure you keep practising them at home!

  • Friday 24th November (Miss Taylor)

    Hi everyone Archie M here

    This week Class 4 have been very busy doing lots of hard work. Miss Taylor gave us all a jigsaw puzzle of an underwater scence. We then has to study the picture for details and create our very own underwater story. Aleah's was about a scuba diver and mermaid who fall in love. We've been writing them all week and we are pleased to have met so many of our writing targets. 

    We have been counting backwards through zero in maths using a human numberline. 

    Science was great because we did an experiement about carbon dioxide using fizzy drinks. We're letting the carbon dioxide escape all weekend and we are going to weigh the drinks again on Monday to see if Carbon Dioxide weight anything and which drink is the fizziest. I predict it is the cola. 

    Homework this week is grid and usual but also lots of SPELLING!! ICe cream spelling party is coming up soon so make sure you keep learning them!

    Class 4 have been extremely busy yet again this week.

    We have been learning about how to write an exciting film review ready to enter the Info Film Festival writing competition. We started by reading reviews of other films and learning about what makes a successful review. Miss Taylor read us some synopsis' of other films and we had to try to guess which film it was. It was really fun and we guessed them all correctly. We then each wrote a synopsis of Trolls and were very careful not to give too much of the film away!! Next, we interviewed eachother to get other opinions on the film to use in our review. We really enjoyed coming up with 'Creative Comparrisons' for the Trolls film. For example...

    Isabelle: "Trolls is like candyfloss ice-cream because it is colourful and sweet."

    Sasah: "Trolls is like eating too much ice-cream and getting a sugar rush with how much singing and dancing there is."

    Ollie: "This film was an animal it would be a slug because they're slow and boring."

    Daisy: "If this film was a famous person it would be the Queen because it is royal and important."

    We have also been learning about anti-bullying for anti-bullying week. We each made a jigsaw piece to show that we're all different and unique but together we make something special - Like our class 4 team.

  • Thursday 9th November (Miss Taylor)

    Welcome back to another jam-packed half term in Class 4 at All Saints'.

    We've already fitted in SO much during our first 2 weeks back after half term... 

    Firstly and most excitingly was our class 'Ping Pong' treat for earning the most ping pong balls last half term. The children enjoyed sharing their toys and games from home and getting involved in lots of different activities around the classroom. Let's hope we can win again during the year!

    We also worked incredibly hard on a new DT project called 'Moving Monsters'. We learnt all about pneumatic systems and objects which use air to make them work. We then investigated techniques for making simple pneumtic systems before designing and making our own monsters with a moving pneumatic part. We used a small and large syringe and a tube to make the monsters mouth open wide. Our Monsters are SO impressive and we are all so proud of our final products. 

    We have also been very busy creating Christmas card designs for the PTA project so that we can sell them at Christmas time. We think they look wonderful and they were great fun to make. We hope that you like them!

    In English this week we have been learning about non-fiction books and have carried out several book studies. We have all leant so much about so many different topics!

    Maths has been tricky as we have been developing our problem solving skills.... We all earnt so much class treasure for being so resilient and hard working. 

    TOMORROW is the day we have all being waiting for..... TROLL at Parrs Wood cinema. We can not wait! See you bright and early (8:40am) for our Into Film Festival trip. 

    Homework has also gone out tonight as we will be so busy tomorrow... Don't forget swimming in the afternoon too!!

    Hi this is Daniel and Josh R,

    This week in class four we have had an amazing time. On Monday we had our Ancient Greek day. We made clay coins and wrote with quills and ink. In the afternoon we learnt all about Greek theatre and acted out a Greek myth. We all balanced peacock feathers on outr fingers like magic.

    We have been practising the column method for addition in maths by solving problems and explaining our answers.

    We retold the story of Buddha through drama and freeze frames. We have also had a mini olympics. It was amazing!

    Yo, Tia and Rachel here,

    This week we have been on the ipads, on DB primary. We have also been learning about fronted adverbials and putting them at the start of sentences. In maths we have been learning 4 digit numbers, 5 digit numbers and 6 digit numbers and adding/taking away 1000. We have also been reading Percy Jackson the lighting thief, we are on chapter 7' My dinner goes up in smoke...!!!' We have been learning about the Ancient Greeks and the differences between the Athenians and the Spartans. We were great in PE yesterday (Mr Granite said we were amazing). We have been learning hockey skills. This afternoon we are going swimming and hopefully it will be fabulous!

    Hello everyone. 

    We have had a very busy week in class 4. 

    In English, we have been reading lots more of Percy Jackson and we are now up to Chapter 7. It's getting so exiciting and Miss Taylor keeps leaving us on a cliff-hanger!

    In writing, we were all set a challenge we write a letter to Gabe from Percy. We had to explain the damage to Gabe's car (Camaro 47) and try to get him to forgive us. Some people chose to make up a story so that Gabe didn't know the truth about Percy being a Half-blood. Gabe is going to be SO ANGRY with Percy.

  • Friday 15th September (Miss Taylor)

    Hi guys. Archie and Clara here!laugh

    This weeks highlights have been:

    * Emoji Maths - We had to find the emoji faces hidden around the classroom and scan the QR code with our ipads. This gave us a large number which we then had to use symbols to compare. 

    * Open morning - We were visited by lots of parents this morning. It was fun sharing our classroom and work with them.

    * In Discovery we were learning about happiness - we danced to 'Happy' by Pharrell Williams and it was really fun.

    * We have also half filled up our new class 4 trasure jar - We'll earn our treat in no time!

    * We made a class recipe with Mrs Daniel for our reflection area.

    We are also really really really excited about starting swimming this afternoon.

    This has been our first full week at school and it's been very very fun.

    Hey guys it is Maddy and Isabelle here!yesangel

    We have been meeting our new teacher Miss Taylor and she is really fun. We also applied for our new class jobs (everybody got the jobs we wanted, Isabelle got growth mindset monitor and Maddy got meteorologist.) We enjoyed making kites, we wrote about our hopes and dreams for year 4 on them. Everyone loved decorating and painting our R.E book front covers. We also started our new class book Percy Jackson and the lightning thief.

    We can hardly believe that we have now come to the end of our year!

    We have had the most wonderful time in year 4 this year and we are going to miss the children so much next year. It has been amazing to see how the children have grown and matured over the year and I am so proud of the progress they have made. I am sure they will continue to shine in their new class and I look forward to seeing them around next year.

    We wish you all an exciting and safe summer. We would also like to say a huge thank you for all the lovely presents and kind words - we are all very grateful.

    Hi everyone 

    We have had the best week ever going to Stockport County, it was amazing learning all about their history and having a tour all around the stadium. We got to see the whole stadium including the home and away changing rooms. We saw their home kits hung up ready to play Bolton that night! Going pitch side was one of the best experience I have ever had! Some people got to go on the pitch and it was exciting running through the tunnel that the players come out of. We then had a look around the museum and did a quiz.

    - they moved to Edgeley Park in 1902

    - their nickname is The Hatters because of the Stockport Hat Works

    - they hold the world record for lowest attendance. 13 people and 1 dog

    - they hold a record for winning 9 games in a row without conceding a goal 

    It was a great day!! We did a Stockport County chant on the coach home.

    In September we will be getting a free ticket to a game and I can't wait!

    We will be so sad when we have to leave class 4 but I know we have a great time in year 5.

  • Friday 30th June (Miss Taylor)

    It has been an amazing active week!frown

    We would lie to start with some bad news: Sports day was cancelled due to the horrendous rain! But don't panic because we will do it again on the 12th of July! But we also did a lot of fun activities as well like tag rugby which we did very well. We are very in to aerobics and we have been doing it quite often. My favourite position is the full jackcheeky! My favourite part of active week was when we got to do aerobics with instructor live. cool. Miss Taylor joined in too.

    We also enjoyed earning our Young Sports Leader awards for organising and delivering an orienteering lesson for KS1 children. The children were good at it and we gave them all 2 merits. 

    Today we are looking forward to crazy golf! devil and of course the summer fair.

  • Friday 16th June (Miss Taylor)

    Hi everyone, it's Evie and Amelie  ,

    This week we have been trying really hard to create our own books.

    First, we had to fold and cut our books into shape. This was really tricky - we had to follow Miss Taylor's step-by-step instructions very carefully. Next, we had to plan a story suitable for younger children. It had to be really exciting with a great adventure in the middle. We then spent time decorating them and writing a blurb. Next week we will get to share them with Year 1 - We can't wait and we hope that they like them.

    In maths this week we had to practise the bus stop method which is divide by a number. We were given some calculations and had to mark them to see if they were right or wrong. We them had to explain the errors in the ones that went wrong.

    This week we have been really good that we got an extra sesion in PE with Mr Granite. It was FAB

    We are looking forward to starting our topic - Music through time.

    We have really enjoyed being at school this week - especially because the sun has been shining!! We hope that it stays for our half term break laugh

    This week in maths we have been learning the formal method for division (bus stop) - We have all worked so hard and earned so much treasure for our pot! 

    We earned so much treasure this week that our pot finally got full!! We had a super class treat of watching an Anglo Saxons DVD and eating FAB ice lollies! It was FAB!

    We've had lots of fun this week finishing off our topic on the Anglo Saxons! Test us at home to see what we know laugh

    We have also been working incredibly hard showing off all that we know by doing some mini assessments. In maths we were set a challenge to beat our personal best score - we all did so Miss Taylor owes us a chocolate cake as promised!

    On Tuesday, we had a very special visit from Bishop Cramner and his wife, Hope. We got to ask them lots of questions and we found out so much about Uganda. We are so lucky we got to meet them and learn more about Uganda. Did you know that Hope's class in Uganda has 89 children and only 1 teacher!

  • Friday 12th May (Miss Taylor)

    We finally finished reading Kensuke's Kingdom this week in class 4. It was such a brilliant ending - we were all on the edges of our seats! We thought that this book was so good that we should review it and recommend it to others. We have all written amazing book reviews using our thoughts and opinions on the book. A huge well done to Connor who is this weeks Star Writer! 

    In maths we have been learning to round decimals to the nearest whole number. We are all experts now and can even round decimals with 2 or more decimal places! Today we played 'Beat the Teacher' on an interactive decimal race game. The score is currently 3 to Miss Taylor and 2 to class 4 - We are definitely going to beat her next week!

    In topic we have been working as historians to investigate the treasures left at Sutton Hoo. The things left behind have given us clues as to who was burried there.... We think that it must be a male, who was perhaps a King, very rich and also enjoyed playing games in his spare time. We will find out more next week!

  • Friday 5th May (Miss Taylor)

    We've had a very busy week in class 4 this week and we've worked so hard! 
    In English, we wrote a message in a bottle from Michael's point of view. Some of us wanted rescuing from the island and others wanted to stay and live there forever. Unfortunately, we found out later that the bottle never made it off the island as Michael's dog, Stella fetched it back. 

    We can't wait to finish the book next week to find out whether Kensuke leaves the island with Michael or if he decides to stay. We enjoyed hotseating Kensuke in class this week to find out what he thought. We realised that if Kensuke returned to Japan 40 years later quite a lot will have changed. Kensuke (Nathan) thought it was worth the risk!

    Class 4 highly recommend this book!! It's a real cliff-hanging-page-turner!

    We have also been busy learning about Anglo-Saxon settlements as well as their daily life. We also enjoyed learning about place names and how many of them have Anglo Saxon meanings!

    Class 4's Conscience Alley - Kensuke's Kingdom

    Matthew did a fantastic job as Michael and the children did an amazing job as his conscience!

    I wonder whether Michael will decide to send the message in the bottle or not...?

    Will he betray Kensuke's trust and risk losing him as a friend? Or will he take the risk and send the bottle in the hope of being reunited with his family?

    Hello!

    We have had such a busy week in class 4 getting ready for our Easter service on Tuesday and our class assembly which was this morning. I am extremely proud of all the children and incredibly impressed by their resilience and risk-taking attitudes. Well done to all the children in class 4 - we had some lovely comments from teachers and parents.

    Hi everyone, it's Harley and Evie-Leigh.

    This week we have all been practising our school assembly and also our church show bible reading. 

    In English, we have been using Microsoft Publisher to reflect on our class trip to Castleon. We have loved learning how to use it and working as a team to write. The posters were really fun to make and we loved presenting them to our class.

    We're also having fun reading Kensuke's Kingdom we so exited for the end. This week brass was really hard but easy too we all had so much fun.

    Don't forget that it's our Class Assembly next Friday at 9am!!

  • Friday 17th March (Miss Taylor)

    We have had such a busy and exciting week in class 4 this week. We have finally all recovered from our amazing residential trip to Castleton. We all showed the 5R's throughout and were a real credit to our school. Our team leaders Rosie, Evelyn and Harvey did a fantastic job and encouraged their team to take risks and be resilient. 

    We would like to say a huge thank you to all the adults who helped us - Mr Bailey, Mrs Eva, Mrs Shaw and Miss Taylor as well Mrs Herbertson and Mrs Hallworth who helped organise it in the office. We had a really great time. 

    Class 4 parents and carers are invited to our class assembly on Friday 31st March to learn more about our topic and see lots of photographs from Castleton. We hope that you can make it.

  • Friday 10th March (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been preparing for our big trip to Castleton next week! We are all so excited and I know that lots of children (and adults) are packed already!

    We were joined by Mr Bailey on Tuesday afternoon to help us with some map reading. We had to find what was at four-figure grid references and use this to crack a code. 

    On Wednesday, we took on a challenge and started using six-figure grid references. Miss Taylor gaves us all an OS map of the Peak District and some clues about Castleton. When we found Castleton we used our map skills to solve the questions. We can't wait to use our map reading skills in Castleton!

    We have also written a very improtant letter to Miss Taylor this week as to why she should recruit us as a team leader at Castleton. There can only be 3 team leaders so I wonder who she will choose?

    On Thursday we went on a very special trip to Marple library. Heather, the librarian, told us that we showed fantastic manners and relationships and we all got to move our names up.

    We have had a wonderful week back in class 4 and we can't believe that we are already half way through the year!

    This week we started our new topic 'Journeys' in preparation for our class trip to Castleton. We have researched the Antarctic explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and found out about his amazing journey of strength and endurance. We used this information to create a non-chronological report.

    Did you know that over 5000 people applied for the expedition?

    Did you know that Skackleton also recruited 69 dogs?

    Ask me what I know about Shackleton this weekend!

    In maths, we have been revising what we know about fractions and learning to convert fractions to decimals. We loved having the parents visit us on Thursday morning and showing off what we do in class. 

    On Thursday next week, class 4 are visiting Marple library - please remember your coat on this day!

  • Friday 10th February (Miss Taylor)

    I have been so impressed with class 4 this week. The children have worked incredibly hard on their Spring term assessments and have all shown great resilience. Well done to all of you. 

    In science this week we have been investigating the effects of friction on different surfaces by setting up and carrying out an eperiement with toy cars. We then learnt about magnets by taking on a junkyard challenge to sort magnetic and non-magnetic materials. We were all shocked that drinks cans are not magnetic!

    Today, we started our brass lessons and we are already making super progress - we are sounding fantastic!

    Our highlight of the week was certainly having a visit from Mr Bailey, our class govenor friend. We learnt so much about him and saw some amazing pictures - some were over 100 years old! We had the chance to ask him some very interesting questions and learnt that he studied chemistry at university and went on to be a chemistry teacher. Mr Bailey has a wife and 2 children and 3 grandchildren. we also found out that his favourite chocolate bar is Cadbury's Fruit and Nut and his favourite bible story is The Good Samaritan. 

    Thank you Mr Bailey for coming in to see us - we are looking forward to learning more about you in Castleton!

  • Friday 27th January (Miss Taylor)

    Hi it's Class 4 here. Over. 

    Our mission this week was to write a story about Robot 28. Also known as Bob. 

    First, we had to practice our sentence types, 2A rule, The more, the more and Emotion word, comma. Then Miss Taylor taught us a new one called 3_ed. We had to think of lots of emotion words ending in 'ed'. How many can you think of?

    This one is our favourite from Millie:

    Terrified, alarmed, worried, the villagers fell to the ground in shock. 

    We can't wait to complete our stories next week. 

    This week in maths we have been learning to multiply using the formal written method. It was very tricky at first but now we can all do it. 

    In science, we have been making circuits and testing materials to see if they are conductors or insulators. It's been really exciting!! We love science experiements!

  • Friday 20th January (Miss Taylor)

    We've had a fabulous and interesting week in Class 4 this week learning all about Marple canal. 

    On Tuesday, an artist called Natasha who works for the Canal and River Trust came to our school to teach us all about Navvies and the marks that they left on Marple. Did you know that the Navvies had to make marks on their stones so that they could get paid for their work? We had a go at making our own marks in the hall using ink and sponges, forks, sticks, rollers and brushes. We then came to class and made our very own Navvy neckerchiefs. If you are in Marple tomorrow you can see them displayed at Lock 16 as part of Marple Lock Festival!

    On Thursday, we were extremely lucky and had the opportunity to visit an empty lock. We were shown around by Mike the engineer and had to walk down a specially built staircase. It was a very long way down and some people were scared at first. We were all totally amazing and had a great morning.

    Did you know that we were the first children in 200 years to go inside the lock?

  • Friday 13th January (Miss Taylor)

    Welcome back!

    Year 4 have certainly started the year in style with their fabulous effort during our Poetry WOW week!

    The children had a ball with poet Ian Bland on Tuesday - they did a great job in creating and performing their own Kenning poems. I wonder if the children can remember them to perform for you at home? Can you guess who or what the Kenning is about?

    On Wednesday we were visited by Mrs O'Shea from Marple Hall who gave us some fabulous tips on performing. We wrote a speech about our new years resoloutions and performed them to the class remembering to use eye contact, passion, pace, volume and actions. I hope we all manage to stick to our resolutions!

    In Thursday we enjoyed mixing up the children and working with children from each class. We worked as a team to create our very own poem or song using a popular song or rhyme. I particularly enjoyed the Frozen parody - 'Do you wana go to Costa?'

    We have worked really hard today to recite and perform one of our favourite poems ready for the Poetry Slam this afternoon. I am incredibly proud of all the children - their confidence and attitude towards learning is amazing.

  • Friday 16th December (Miss Taylor)

    In maths this week class 4 have been learning to calculate the area and perimeter of shapes. Today we had to solve a Christmas elves problem by calculating the area and perimeter of their Christmas cards and wrapping paper. It was tricky but we did it!

    In RE we have enjoyed learning about the christingle and what each part symbolises. We were able to make our very own christingle on Tuesday and we can't wait to show them to you at the christmas service on Wednesday.

  • Friday 9th December (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have had lots of fun learning about shadows and how they are formed. We carried out as experiment to see how shadows change and then created shadow puppets. Some children put on a shadow puppet show of the nativity story and some retold the BFG story. It was really fun and the puppet shows looked great. Thank you Harley for letting us borrow your puppet theatre!

    In RE we have been learning about Christingles and what each part represents. You will hear all about it at the Christmas church service during the last week!

    We have also been busy getting ready for the Christmas fair this weekend. We had to design and make something to sell at the fair and our class chose to make delicious homemade dog biscuits. They were really fun to make and we think your fout-legged friends will love them!! Thank you to Grandma Shaw for helping us to bake them.

    In English we wrote up the secret recipe - you can also buy this at the fair for 20p!

    This week class 4 have been very busy writing a BFG character desicription. We had to do 5 pharaghaphs that were very hard work.

    This week in maths we have been doing Roald Dahl 2 step problems and there were 8 questions that were funny. For each question we had to do 2 caluclations to get the answer. 

    In science, we set up an investigation to see if materials were opaque, transparent, or translucent. Do you know what these words mean?

    We did a fun dance lesson in PE about the BFG and Sophie's friendship. We have started to put a routine together.

  • Friday 25th November (Miss Taylor)

    This week class 4 have been working very hard on their assessesments and showing off what they know. 

    The highlight of our week is coming first place in the Sumdog contest!! We are all so proud and relieved that we won as we put in so much time and effort at home. 7 children in our class came in the top 10 over all!! A special mention to Alex, Evie L, Matthew, Imogen, Amelie, Ashton and Keane who answer all answered over 1000 questions!!!!!! The top 5 students in class 4 are James, Evie B, Ashton, Matthew and Keane. Keep up the great work!

    We have also been learning about how to protect our eyes from the suns UV rays. 

    This weekend, keep up the great sumdog work!

  • Friday 18th November (Miss Taylor)

    This week, class 4 have been very busy! We had a super time at Showcase cinema on Monday watching the BFG and have had fun this week interviewing eachother for their opinions. We have made some creative comparisons including:

    "If this film was an animal it would be an elephant because it is big and bold." Mia W

    "If this film was a book it would be Harry Potter because it is magical and mysterious."  Charlie 

    "If this film was an ice-cream it would be chocolate because it is sweet and enjoyable." Nathan

    Today we have planned our film review ready to write up next week. We are excitied to be taking part in the Into Film Festival - Film Review competition! 

    In topic, we have been learning all about Quentin Blake, the illustrator of Roald Dahl's books. We watched him in action and then had a go at drawing in his style. The outcomes were marvellous and we were all really impressed with our BFG sketches.

  • Friday 11th November (Miss Taylor)

    Hi everyone, 

    We have had a super week in class 4 this week, working hard as always!

    In English, we have been researching the marvellous life of Roald Dahl and writing a biography. Miss Taylor was very impressed with our writing and we were pleased to congratulate Ashton as this weeks Star Writer. 

    In maths, we have been comparing and classifying different types of triangles and quadrilaterals. Today, we worked systematically to find a winning strategy for the 23 game. Get your child to teach you at home!

    In topic, we have been investgating which surfaces reflect light by carring out an experiment in the dark! We found out that tin foil reflects light very well.

    We've had a super duper time in class 4 this week!

    This week we started our new marvellous topic ROALD DAHL. We have been learning all about his life. We made a comic strip of his life events and learned that he had a very busy life with some very tragic events. We are looking forward to learning more about Roald Dahl next week and starting to look at the BFG. 

    In maths, we have been learning about different angles. We turned into angle dectectives and investigated the whole school. We found lots of acute angles in the playground and some obtuse. Right angles were really easy to spot! Today, we had a go at ordering angles by size. 

    As a treat, we have been listening to the audio book George's Marvellous Medicine - it is really funny!!

    In science, we have been learning about light and dark. We carried out an experiement in the dark which made it very difficult to see!

    Hi all,

    We have had such an exciting and fun-filled week this week with our annual Church Week. The children have loved every minute and been a real pleasure to work with. I am so proud of how they behaved and contributed in each task. Thank you so much to all the helpers this week, the children really enjoyed spending time with you and working with you. We have shared so many special memories today when reflecting on our week- I'm sure you have been hearing about it at home too!

  • Friday 14th October (Miss Taylor)

    Hello! We can hardly believe another week has flown by at All Saints. We have had such a busy week this week, with our Egyptian Workshop being a highlight. We loved hearing all about the Egyptian Gods, hieroglyphics and the pyramids with Tony North and he was able to answer some of our very interesting questions. Oliver and Amelie dressed up as ancient Egyptians and it really suited them- they looked wonderful! We were all able to try on some Egyptian perfume which smelt like mint! Some of us liked the smell but most hated it. 

    In English, we have been working hard to include our new sentence types into our story writing. We enjoyed writing our stories about the new tomb discovery and well done to Amy who is this weeks star writer! 

    In maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes but unfortunately the minions have been arguing so we had to investigate which one of them was right. To do this we had to carry out lots of different investigations with the shapes and write up our findings.

  • Friday 7th October (Miss Taylor)

     

    This week class 4 have had a wonderful time learning how to write like Egyptians. First we tried to decode some secret messages which was really fun and then we had a go at writing our own. We can't believe that ancient Egyptians didn't have to use punctuantion. We used metallic pencils to write our name then covered our playground in chalk hieroglyphics! It must have taken them a very long time to write.

    In maths we enjoyed showing Mr Bailey how to subtract using the formal written method. We have been practising all week and we are experts now. Today we are taking on Miss Taylor's subtraction challenge - I'm sure we will work it out!

    In English we have been working on uplevelling and improving our writitng. We have learnt 2 new sentence types and are looking forward to including them in our writing next week!

  • Friday 30th September (Miss Taylor)

    Hi, it's class 4 again. 

    We've had an awesome week and we have filled our treasure right to the top! This means we have earned a class treat for next week. 

    Yesterday we learned about the ancient Egyptian riual of Mummification. We wrapped a mummy from our table up in linen strips (toilet paper) and Jack's team won. We thought the process was very interesting but a bit disgusting when they hooked their brains out through their nose! Ewwwwwww devil

    In English, we wrote a non-chronological report about Egypt. We used iPads and books to carrry out our research then we were able to write our report including the features we learned about. James was this week STAR WRITER due to his amazing handwriting, presentation and content. Well done James!

    Hello, it's Amy and Oliver here. 

    We've had another super week in class 4 this week and have learnt lots about Egyptian life. We used my fabulous book (Oliver) which helped us out a lot. We have also been using non-fiction books in English to help us learn more. We were able to recognise the features of non-fiction and use the information. 

    We did some drama about Egyptian life with Mr Kennedy which was very exciting. We also did some acting in class and all had a different Egyptian role. It was really fun.

    In topic, we looked at all sorts of different Egyptian artefacts and used them to help us learn more about their lives.

    And more excitingly, we've earned lots of treasure this week for our fantastic behaviour. When it is full we can have an great treat!

  • Friday 16th September (Miss Taylor)

    Hello!

    This term we will be learning about Awesome Egypt. So far we love it. Our first two weeks we have already learnt so much about the pyramids. For example, did you know that it took between 20,000 and 100,000 men to build each pyramid? The pyramids were built while the river Nile was flooded. This is because the farmers couldn't work during this time. We also know that the size of the pyramid depended on how important the person was. 

    In maths, we have been learning about place value and ordering and comparing numbers beyond 1000. 

    We also wrote a persuasive letter to the president of Egypt Mr Sisi to see if he could tell us more about Egypt.

    Hello, Hola, Guten Tag, Hallo, Bonjour, Ola, Aloha, Ciao and welcome to Class 4!

    We have had a wonderful first week back to school with our fantastic International WOW Week! We have been so lucky to have so many special visitors to speak to us this week about different countries, cultures and religions. We particularly enjoyed our Japanese workshop with Mrs Currie where we learnt how to count to 10 in Japanese. 

    In class, we have been learning lots about different countires. We looked at Africa and learnt about all the famous people who come from there. People in western Africa wear clothes from a cloth made of thin strips of fabric woven together. We were able to practise this technique in class and weaved some marvellous African style placemats. We also had a go at printing some Adinkra cloth too using stamps made from sponges. 

    We also enjoyed hearing an Audio Book of African Folktales and had a go at writing our own. We used special gel pens to make our handwriting neat and make our books look extra special. 

    What a busy first week it has been!

    This week we have been learning about Until I met Dudley the book and we've also made our own 

     fake and real explanation texts.On Tuesday we are going to the garden house near the Roman lakes.(you need wellys or walking boots.)This weeks growth mindset is...      

    Archie and Naomi,well done.We've been learning about symmetry by creating a symmetrical Minecraft figures.On our icecream targets we have all got everything so we will be full of ice cream on Thursday.

  • Friday 15th July (Miss Taylor)

    Good afternoon,

    This week we have been busy learning all about Explanation texts. We read 'Until I Met Dudley' and learnt all about how everyday things work as well as reading some funny versions about how things might work. Our favourite was the toaster - when you put the slices of bread in and push the handle down, an alarm goes off underground, alerting the toast gnomes to spring into action. Then a friendly dragon toasts the bread with his fiery breath and the gnomes send it to pop up. This week we are writing our explanation texts about how something works using the laptops to research and next week we will write our funny version. 

    In maths we have been revising the formal methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and working on 2 or 3 step problems. Some are a bit tricky but some have been quite funny like how many screws Mr Chalenor needed for the new shed! (We even made him solve it!)

    In topic we have been doing an experiment about which conditions are best for a plant to grow. The dark, no water, fridge and sand ones haven't grown at all. We have been recording our observations daily.

  • Friday 8th July (Miss Taylor)

    Hi!

    This week we have been learning how to write our very own playscripts. We started by looking at Little Red Riding Hood playscript and worked to pair write the ending.

    Next, we saw a really funny video of the Wolf's version of The Three Little Pigs. We can't believe the wolf was only going to borrow sugar!

    Now we've got to write an alternative version of Jack and the Beanstalk from the Giant's point of view. The Star Writer's playscript will be performed in class next week!

    In topic, we have growing sunflowers and can't wait to see whose will grow the tallest! We have also been learning about the different parts of a flower and in science we dissected a flower. 

    We hope our summer fair stall goes well tonight and are looking forward to it.

    We have a name the pinata for 60p and a pin the tale on the donkey for 20p.

  • Friday 1st July (Miss Taylor)

    Bonjour!

    We started off this week with our fantastic French Day. We learnt lots of French words and games and the best part of the day was the French Cafe. It was delicious!

    In English, we have been comparing the story 'The Gruffalo' with the play script. We then worked in small groups to perform it using inonation, tone, volume and actions. It was really super fun. (Miss Taylor's been reading us too many stories!)

    Our class govenor friend Mrs Higgins joined us on Wednesday and it was great to see her. I think she enjoyed seeing some of our performances.

    We also had our special singing concert on Wednesday which went swimmingly. The audience seemed to really enjoy it and we did too.

    Homework this week is something from your grid. Spellings are different this week - Please practise the ones from the Year 3 and 4 word list which are highlighted in the front of homework books. We will have a mini test each week.

  • Friday 24th June (Miss Taylor)

    Hola! 

    This week year 4 have really enjoyed Active Week and have all been showing the All Saints' 5 R's. 

    On Monday, we started the week by learning about Mexico as that is our classes country.

    We learned a very funny 'Mexican Hat Dance' and enjoyed sharing it with the school this morning in assembly.

    We had a great time during scooter-fit on Tuesday and we had a mini party for Miss Taylor's birthday.

    On Wednesday it was Sports Day and pink team won! Well done to everyone for taking part and trying your best.

    On Thursday we did some mexican cooking and made delicious Spicy Chicken Fajitas with homemade guacomole. It was great!

    Today we did skipping and learned some new skipping rhymes.

    What a busy week!

    Hello and welcome back to our final term in Year 4!

    This week we have been very busy as 'Year 5's in training' and working very hard.

    Our new topic is called 'Green Fingers' and we will be learning all about plants and how they grow and what they need. This week we have worked hard to name and identify all the plants we know and we have also learnt the names of the different parts of a plant. We also learnt about the special jobs that each part of the plant have.

    We have also done a very special piece of writing about the Lady of the Garden. 

    We are looking forward to Active Week next week - don't forget your sports wear!

  • Friday 27th May (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been so very busy finishing off our 'Around the World' topic. We have loved this topic, it's been very fun.

    We have been doing lots of history in our topic lessons this week and have learnt about the Indus Valley, Shang Dynasty of China and the Ancient Sumerian civilisation. Today we learned about the Ancient Sumerian writing script and has a go at writing our name using this system.

    We have also been showing off everyting we know and doing some tests. We are very proud of ourselves. 

    We have worked very very hard this term to earn treasure for our super work and behavious and the treasure jar is finally full! We can't wait until our class treat this afternoon.

    *This year the children have taken part in several singing lessons and have learnt some excellent (and catchy) new songs. All KS2 parents are invited to join us for a singing concert on Wednesday June the 29th at 2.15pm. Year 4, 5 and 6 will be singing a small selection of their favourite songs.

     

     

  • Friday 13th May (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been doing the formal method for division and practised this a lot. We have also been reading Kensuke's kingdom in literacy and wrote an imaginary personal recount about us being stranded on a desert island. Andrew is this weeks Star Writer. His story was amazing.

    In topic we have been learning about volcanoes and how they are formed and what happens when they erupt. We went on to the school field and watched our clay volancoe erupt with vinegar and baking soda. It was cool. 

    We also did an earthquake drill where when the teacher hit the drum we had to stop, drop, hold, keep calm and stay aware. That means go under a table and hold your neck and stay still. It was so funny. We also looked up the earthquakes that were happening around the world that day!!

    This week we've had an awesome week at school and we've loved the sunshine.

    We have learnt the formal method for division and are finding really easy. We must practise our times tables to make it even easier!!

    Friday 29th April (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have learned about Kensuke's Kingdom and we also did drama about it. In maths we did Roman numerals, it was hard but fun. We learnt to add in Roman numerals and we did a code breaker. We have also learned about the equator. We had a look at google earth to find countries near the equator and we also found our school.

  • Friday 22nd April (Miss Taylor)

    We have had a lovely first week of the Summer term!

    We have been reading Kensuke's Kingdom as a class as part of our new 'Around the World' topic. Miss Taylor has left us on lots of cliffhangers and we can't wait to read the end of the book today!

    Today we were creating a charater sketch of Kensuke using evidence from the book. We even got to paint them which was really fun. 

    In maths we impressed Miss Taylor by working really hard to recognise and write decimal equivalents of tenths and hundreths. It was really tricky at first but we are all experts now.

    On Wedneday we used an Atlas to locate the world's countires and played some games outside about different continents.

  • Friday 1st April (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been working hard to achieve our target of dividing 1 and 2 digit numbers by ten and one hundred. We did a divide formular one race, it was lots of fun some of us want to do it again! 

    We made a soundtrack to a dinosaur clip using musical insterments. We worked in six groups to compose and improvise music. Class 2 came to watch us and they really enjoyed it. It was fun lots got very GIDDY like little kids!! We liked it. In literacy we have  been writing our dinosaur stories they are very exciting we want to carry on.    This easter we have no homework but it would be great if you could do lots of reading and practice the year 3/4 spelling list.smiley

    This week has been very exciting because we have been on our residential trip to the Hollowford Centre in Castleton. We all loved it! It was great not  being home for a while. Highlights of our trip were: The High Ropes and Caving because everyone showed the 5 R's particuarly in those things. Everything went well.

  • Monday 7th March (Miss Taylor)

    Dear all, 

    Here are the final details for our exciting trip tomorrow!

    1. You must have lots and lots of warm layers. It is forecast to snow! Please wrap up warm and dry.

    2. Hat and gloves are essential. 

    3. The walk to Castleton has been tried and tested this weekend and is very wet and muddy. Please ensure you have comfortable and waterproof walking shoes with a good grip for the journey there and also bring your wellies in your main over night bag.

    4. Don't forget your packed lunch and a drink in your day rucksack. 

    5. We will meet at Marple station at 8:45 latest - we will then sort children into groups. 

    6. PLEASE NOTE - We are now asking parents to collect children from Marple Station on Wednesday at 3:10pm 

    We are excited to see you then!

    This week we went to a normal assembly with Mr McShane but when it started... a massive dinosaur arrived!

    It was terrifying but we loved it. It tried to eat Miss Taylor and we thought it was hilarious!

    We have also been preparing for our trip to Castleton and we are all very excited!

    Wow, it's great to be back.

    In maths this week we have been learning about short multiplicataion and we are amazing at it. Today we are starting brass lessons which we are excited about it in class. We have also been learning about Ernest Shackleton and his jorney to Antarctica. We've sarted our new topic journeys and we are preparing for our trip to Castleton.

  • Friday 5th February (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been learning all about time and working out time problems.

    We've also been drawing and painting firebirds and learning about the Native American tale of the firebird. It was really fun.

    We enjoyed our visit from Zoolab on Tuesday and loved seeing all the different animals (especially the Giant Hissing Cockroach!).

    We are looking forward to writing our Native American tales next week!

    This week we have been learning about the nuttrition and that we need a balanced diet to stay healthy. We have also learnt about Native Americans and made our own totem pole and had to write instructions on how to make our totem pole. Every animal was a diffrent family member.We have also been learning about co-ordinates and have learned that we have to go down the corridor and then  up the stairs.

    In Maths this week we have been looking at graphs. We have collected data about our pets and recorced it on a bar graph.We also looked at line graphs and used pictographs to problem solve.This week in Literacy we've been planning and writing our totem pole instructions and makng our brilliant totem poles in topic. In art we have been doing pointlism. We created our own piece of artwork based on Native American patterns. In jigsaw we have been talking about behaviour at school and what systems we think work or don't.

  • Friday 8th January (Miss Taylor)

    This week has been our amazing science WOW week. We have been learning about Tim Peake the astronaut and we made space shuttles to protect our egg astronauts. We used lots of junk mateirals and had to help the egg astonaut land back to Earth safely. We also learnt about air resistance to help us make the best parachutes. 

    We also did an experiement called 'feeling weighless' to help us know what it feels like in space where there is zero gravity. I thought I make a very good astronaut. We also had to do a balance test like Tim Peake would have done. We tasted space food and most people thought it tasted nice but some thought it was awful. We all guessed it was a space roast chicken dinner.

    We made rockets as a team following instructions carefully. Today we are going to launch them outside and we can't wait! We are also doing a fun experiment today with lemons and bicarbonate of soda. We love science!!!

    This week at school it's been great. We had our exciting christmas party on Wednesday and enjoyed a christmas film afterwards.

    On Thursday we had our Ice Cream party. Everyone has been working really hard to achieve their ice cream targets.

    We have also been doing lots and lots of singing to prepare for our Christmas service this afternoon!

  • Friday 11th December (Miss Taylor)

    This week year 4 have been earning lots of treasure and merits and doing great in singing with Mr.Henderson and Mr.McShane.

    On Monday we went on a school trip to Crowdon River National Park in the Peak district. We started to walk down to the river. After we then measured the river and it was 28cm deep. Next the leader threw dog biscuits into the river so we could measure how fast the river was flowing. It took 10 seconds for the dog biscuits to travel 3 metres. It was great day and we all took a risk doing something new. We also learnt lots of new words!

    In maths we have been working on fractions. Miss Taylor gave us all a sticker for being so resilient. 

    This week in topic we interviewed a partner to see how much water they use at home in a week. We were shocked by how much water we use!! We are thinking of ways to save water now.

  • Friday 4th December (Miss Taylor)

    Hi! Matthew and Alexander here.

    We have had a great week again at school. On Wednesday we all became scientists and did an expeiment. We put a wet hand print on some paper and dried it with a hair dryer. We then left some to dry in the classroom. We found out that the hair dryer dried the hand print quicker. So heat must speed up evaporation!

    It was the best work in the world. 

    We have enjoyed our morning Chrismtas maths challenges and some children have opened Miss Taylor's challenge advent calendar! I hope it is us next week!

    Today we watched a panto of Beauty and the Beast and there was Up Town Funk in it! We thought it was extreme!

  • Friday 27th November (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been working really hard for our assessments. We did so well that Miss Taylor thought we deserved a class treat. Today we got to watch Arthur Christmas and it was fun. We are starting to feel in the Christmas spirit!

    We also enjoyed designing our Christmas baubles and think they look cool.

    We have also been thinking about friendship and giving out Good Friend Deed slips for children who we see being good friends. We have both earned one or two this week for being kind!

    We are excited about our school trip next week - we hope it doesn't rain too much!

    RIVER STUDY TRIP:

    Children will need wellies and warm, waterproof clothes (not school uniform), we can provide waterproof trousers if needed. Please bring lunch and spare socks/trousers in a bag - this bag will be staying on the coach. We will only be working outside for the first part of the day. Lunch and the afternoon session will be inside. Please wrap up as warm as you can for the morning session!

     

  • Friday 20th November (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been learning all about anti-bullying week. We started by thinking about what bullying is and what it means to us. We then had to be really grown up and sensible as we investigated situations and had to decide if they were bullying situations or not. We then really impressed Miss Taylor by writing a poem about bullying. We are going to perform them in a Poetry Slam on Monday!

    This week we have been using inverse to solve some tricky challenges during maths. The trick is to work backwards from the answer!

    We have also had our first swimming lesson today which we really enjoyed. We managed to make it back just before the rain!

    Next week is assessment week and we are looking forward to showing off what we know and everything we have learnt. 

     

    Homework: Lots of reading, handwriting and something from your grid! There are no spellings set this week as it is assessment week next week but it would be great if children could revise spellings from previous weeks and look at the year 3 and 4 word list which is glued into homework books.

    This week we have been designing and creating a 3D pop-up book about water. It was reallllly fun and we got to choose the facts to include. 

    In maths we have been solving some tricky problems using column subtraction.

    Our new topic is Splish, Splash, Splosh; Water!

    We have been learning about how much water we use every day. We know that a full bath uses over 150 litres of water!

    In maths we learnt a song about the 6 times table. It is a funny song and we can all now count in 6's.

    We have also been working on our ice-cream targets.

  • Friday 23rd October (Mrs Daniel)

    This week we have been going up to church because it has been Church Week. We did bell ringing, learnt about different minerals, drew and wrote passport prayers, tasted Japanese food, made a banner for our school hall, created a planet, designed travel posters and learnt a new song. Wow! We have been very busy!

    We made Greek vases out of clay in class which we will paint after the half term holiday.

    This afternoon we are going to be celebrating Harvest Festival in church and showing off some of the things we have created this week.

    We are all looking forward to half term and having a rest.

  • Friday 16th October (Miss Taylor)

    This week we have been writing our own myths. We edited them then wrote them up in best for our Greek books. We also designed a front cover for our books.

    In maths we have been learning about different angles and their names. We went around school and investigated different angles. We looked for right anges, obtuse angles and acute angles. In the hall we found out that the gym apperatus had all three angles.

    We learnt about adjectives and advebs so we can use them in our writing and make our sentences really exciting.

  • Friday 9th October (Mrs Daniel)

    On Monday we had to dress up as Greeks for our Greek day. We learnt lots of interesting facts and had a mini olympics in the hall with class 3. We are learning about a new myth called King Minos. On Wednesday we designed our own mythical beasts and wrote about them.

    In maths we have been investigating lines of symmetry with different 2D shapes. We used mirrors to check lines of symmetry.

  • Friday 2nd October (Miss Taylor)

    We have been working very hard this week and the class seem to have won a lot of treasure, we're so close to that treat!

    In litarecy we've been learning about the myth of Theseus and the Minotor and making it sound better with WOW words. We enjoyed reading the different verions and noticing the differences. 

    In maths, we have been investigating 3D shapes and did a minion maths investigation everone did great.We also investigated nets for shapes.

    On friday we did a parents open morning where the kids all did reading activities. The parents seemed to like it and so did the kids.

  • Friday 25th September (Miss Taylor)

    This week in class 4 we have been learning column addition in maths and can add hundreds and thousands together. We made a story board about Theseus and the Minotaur. We used writing and pictures to tell the story, then we read it out to the class. In topic we have been learning about Ancient Greek democracy and how Metics, slaves, women and people under thirty weren't allowed to vote. We have also been catching up with our reading.

    This week in literacy we have been planning our persuasive letter to James Brian because he wanted to cancel our topic Ancient Greece. This week in maths we have been rounding numbers up and down to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. We have also been learning about Greece and looking at it on Google Earth. We also looked at the landscapes of Greece and found out a lot of interesting information. We compared Greece to Marple and found it was very different. Alex would rather live in Marple and Matthew would rather live in Greece.

  • Friday 11th September (Miss Taylor)

    Welcome to year 4! What a fantastic start we have made this week. The children have settled into year 4 beautifully and done a super job of showing me the 'All Saints' Way'. We have started our new topic 'Groovy Greeks' and made a very interesting list of questions for us to investigate as the term goes on! We have been working hard in maths by ordering 4 digit numbers, counting on in 1000's and finding 1000 more and less than given numbers. I was also extremely impressed with the children's ideas when answering the question 'What is hope?' during our class collective worship. I hope we have a successful and enjoyable year together!

    This week Class 4 have had a wonderful Active Week. We have learnt all about balanced diets, created menus and food groups. As well as that we have done Boxfit, Skipping and Dodgeball to name but a few. Our biggest project this week has been our sewing project which the children are absolutely loving!

    This week we have been looking at conversions between different measures and designing a new school playground with different measurements. In Topic this week we have been investigating how sounds are produced and how pitch and volume can be changed by the size of an instrument. We are looking forward to Active week next week. Please remember trainers and water bottles!

    Welcome Back to all the children for our final half term! The children seem very well rested as they have come back this week more motivated than ever, which has been fantastic to see. We have been securing our knowledge of analogue, digital and 24 hour time this week and have started to find time periods. In Literacy we have been investigating non-chronological reports and used our knowledge to write a fantastic report about musical instruments and their families to show off our Topic knowledge. We have also been investigating how sound is produced. Next week every child needs an empty tissue box and the centre of a kitchen roll or our exciting Topic activity!
