Class 3 Public community Blog
  • Friday 24th July (Miss Day)

Well - here it is! The end of the school year. I can't quite believe it. What a rollercoaster it has been. Certainly a school year we will remember for the rest of our lives! Have to be honest - I am feeling quite emotional as I write the final blog of the year!

I can't express how much I have loved the time I have had being the Year 3 teacher this year. Mrs Eva, myself, Mrs Parry and Ms Shaw are so, SO proud of all your children. Honestly, they are fantastic, kind, hardworking and charismatic children. I am genuinely SO sad that my time being their teacher in class has been cut short. They are a year group I will never forget. The last day of school always means closing one door and the opening of another; after seeing the children on Monday (and how much they have grown in just a few months!) it is obvious they are ready for their next stage of the adventure of All Saints'. They are no longer the slightly timid, wide-eyed children that entered our Year 3 classroom back in September, wondering what KS2 would hold. They are mature, confident, eager and excited for Year 4. I have told Miss Taylor and Mrs Daniel how lucky they are!! These brilliant children are a credit to you all and I know you are immensely proud of them too.

So for the final time - here are the the stats!

Mathletics: We have a total of 8 certificates this week.  Bronze goes to: Iris, Teddy, Ben, Elliott and Louie! Very well done guys. Silver goes to Teddy and Louie. WOW! AMAZING! And a spectacular, incredible WELL DONE to LOUIE!! He has achieved his GOLD certificate too!! SO PROUD! WELL DONE LOUIE!

TT Rockstars:  First of all - WOW! WOW! WOW!! We won!!!!!!! Year 3 WON the in-school competition against Year 4!! BRILLIANT NEWS!! SO proud of you all. Thank you to everyone who made the achievement possible by working their hardest on TT Rockstars last week! Rock on!!

This week on the leader board we have - Ella, Teddy, Emma, Jacob, Elliott, Sam, Logan, Lauren and Louie - well done you clever cookies! Special mention needs to go to Dillon who is a new name on our leader board! Fantastic work! Superstars this week - Max for most improved - amazing work Max! And also to Benjamin who earned the most coins with a whopping 45,716!!! Incredible Ben. Well done.

Reading Eggspress - 5 Bronze medals this week. Very well done to Teddy, Sam, Elliott, Logan and Lauren. Amazing work guys.

THANK YOU!!! I want to thank the children for the warmth, memories and learning we have shared over the past year. Always strive to be the best you can be. You're all so special and we know you will continue to fly! Please pop in, when you're grown up Year 4's and let us know how you are getting on. We will miss you very much.

I hope you all have a well earned, relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday. I look forward to seeing you in September.

    Lots of love

    Happy Friday everyone!

Hope you have all had a lovely week. I have managed to speak to some people over the course of the week and hear what you have been up to, which has been lovely as always. I hope you all enjoyed the Zoom call with Miss Taylor earlier in the week. We are both really looking forward to seeing you on Monday afternoon for the 'Hello/Farewell' sessions. I bet you are all getting so excited about starting Year 4!

Here are the stats for this week:

Reading Eggspress: Six bronze medals have been achieved this week by Teddy, Ben, Jacob, Sam, Logan and Lauren. Very special well done to Teddy, who has also achieved a Silver Medallion.

TT Rockstars: We had loads more people on TT Rockstars this week - I should imagine everyone was trying really hard for the competition! Thank you and well done to those children who had a real push, and worked as a team towards the competition. On the leader-board this week: Iris, Steph, Teddy, Ben, Jacob, Max, Joseph, Logan, Margot, Lauren and Louie. • Friday 10th July (Miss Day)

Well here we are on the penultimate Friday before we break up for the Summer hols and all you lovely lot move on to Year 4! I am so sad that it all ended so strangely and got cut so short. sad

I really hope you all have had a good week. Again, it has been great to talk to some of you over the course of week and hear all the fantastic things you have been up to. Emma has been working really hard on lots of homeschooling and sent me a copy of her poem she had written - it was brilliant! Rafin has been as conscientious as ever in trying his hardest with all his home school work - especially enjoying maths. Stephanie sent me a lovely email to let me know all things she has been up to and she has been working hard at her Grandma and Grandad's as well as playing with their dog! However, a special mention must go to Lily! It was lovely to chat to Lily and her family, to hear about everything she has been up to: making 'jet packs' fuelled by sweeties, picking up a new puppy, Monty, but most impressively Lily was excited to share her news that she had achieved 2nd Place in the Stockport Shapes 'Give me 5' Challenge. Quite rightly, Lily was so proud of herself because she had decided to take on the PE challenge that was mentioned on the school website a few weeks ago, and out of ALL the Year 3s in Stockport - Lily came 2nd! Well done Lily! What an achievement!

This week we have some Maths challenge booklets for you to try. If you click on the links it should take you to the challenge book. There are answer books too to help with the marking. I have included the links for Year 4 too, in case anyone wanted to try the next year group as a challenge.

Mr McShane has also mentioned that there will be a TT Rockstar competition in school starting from Monday for the week ahead. Year 3 Vs Year 4! Everyone has been working so hard - come on guys!! We can do it! Try your hardest and see if we can win that competition!

So here we go with the weekly stats:

TT Rockstars: Well done to Summer, Stephanie, Teddy, Jacob and Lauren who have all been on the leader board this week! A very special congratulations to Logan who achieved the most coins this week with a whopping 7691!!!! Amazing! And our superstar of the week is Emma for most improved score. Well done guys - and everyone let's really have a huge push and see if we can beat Year 4 in the competition!

Reading Eggspress - We have 6 bronze medals this week. Well done to Teddy, Benjamin, Jacob, Elliott, Logan and Lauren.

Matheltics - We have an amazing 12 certificates this week in Year 3!! Well done to Iris, Ella, Steph, Teddy, Ben, Emma, Joseph, Elliott, Lauren and Louie who all achieved bronze certificates. A special well done to Stephanie and Elliott who have earned silver certificates.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I know you have your zoom transition meeting on Monday with the Year 4 team and hope you enjoy getting to say a virtual hello to everyone! I also really hope you can make the goodbye/hello sessions on Wednesday 22nd - it will be fab to see everyone!

    Take care and speak soon,

  • Friday 3rd July (Miss Day)

    Happy Friday everyone!

I hope you have all had a nice week. It has been so great catching up with some of you as I have made my calls this week. I genuinely love to hear what everyone has been doing - home-schooling or not! Some of the stories I have been hearing this week: It was great to hear that Joseph is writing a story about a sea turtle adventure that he is going to type up and illustrate - I can't wait to read it! Lauren and Elliott have been on a family 'socially distanced' walk together - that sounds lots of fun! Louie has been working hard on his home schooling and has even written a letter to Blue Peter with some fantastic artwork he has produced, ready to send to them. A special well done to Iris who wrote a letter to Blue Peter to tell them all about her recorder playing for her Grandad. The Blue Peter team were so impressed that they awarded her a Blue Peter badge! She looks so proud in the photo she sent me with her badge - and rightly so! Well done Iris! Really looking forward to chatting to even more people over the next week.

If you are looking for something a little different this week, the Stockport Road Safety Team have suggested some website and activities for the children to promote Road Safety in our area. The websites have some interesting ideas of lessons and activities that you may enjoy working on with your children. Here are a couple of the suggested links:

    https://roadsafetygb.org.uk/news/free-resources-made-available-to-primary-schools/

    https://www.think.gov.uk/education-resources/

So.... this week's all important stats for our online learning resources!

TT Rockstars - This week 35% of the class have been active and using TT Rockstars. Well done to Evelyn, Ella, Summer, Stephanie, Teddy, Benjamin, Emma, Jacob, Max, Logan and Margot. Our highest coin earners were Teddy and Logan - well done boys! And our Rockstar Superstars this week are Evelyn, Emma and Max for most improvements made, as well as earning a fantastic number of coins! Excellent work guys!

Reading Eggspress - This week we have 6 Bronze Medals and 2 Silver Medallions. Our Bronze earners are: Teddy, Benjamin, Jacob, Elliott, Logan and Lauren. Excellent effort gang! Silver Medallions go to Elliott and Logan! Amazing boys! Well done!

Mathletics - We have an extremely respectable 12 certificates in Year 3 this week! Bronze certificates go to: Teddy, Elliott, Benjamin, Louie, Emma, Minnie, Joseph, Olivia. Silver certificates go to: Emma, Joseph and Olivia. And WOW!!! Our gold certificate goes to Olivia!! Well done you! Mummy said you had been working so hard on mathletics this week and you have achieved all three certificates! Very impressed by everyone's effort this week. Fantastic work!

I also wanted to say a special well done and thank you to Teddy and Benjamin. They decided to have a go at the writing challenge last week and both wrote excellent poems about what they miss about being in school. I'd be lying if I said they didn't bring a tear to my eye! I really am missing school and everyone very much.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend whatever you are up to.

Feel free to email with any questions or queries and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

    Take care and speak soon,

    Mrs Day x

  • Friday 26th June (Miss Day)

Well, yet another week completed in our strange circumstances!

I hope everyone is well and enjoyed the absolutely beautiful weather we have had over the past couple of days. It has be lovely to speak to even more people throughout the week and hear all the lovely things you have been up to. Alice has been so busy with lots of walks and home-learning on topics such as the Maya and Stephanie has been in touch to let me know all about her topic she has been working on "Dogs"; she has even made some dog biscuits and is still putting her sewing machine to good use. Can't wait to see the finished products you have made Steph! I will be continuing with my calls next week, so hopefully will get to speak to the few people I haven't managed to chat to yet.

As I have already mentioned in my Monday email to everyone, Headstart Primary have produced some lovely, simple activity booklets which we know would be of great benefit to our children.  They are also currently available at a bargain price of £1.38 each. Please order and pay using Parent Pay. You can order the 'Y3' year group until the 29th June. You may also wish to order booklets for Y4 as that is the year group your child will be moving into.

    So... this week's stats!

Reading Eggspress: We have had 5 bronze medals this week. These go to Teddy, Jacob, Elliott, Logan and Lauren. Also, Lauren and Jacob achieved silver medallions! Well done to you all.

TT Rockstars: It seems that only just over a quarter of the class have used TT Rockstars this week. Come on guys! Let's have a push and get our stats up for next week! Excellent work to the children who have been working hard on it and managed to earn themselves some coins: Evelyn, Summer, Stephanie, Teddy, Benjamin, Jake, Jacob and Max. Special mention to Jake who earned the most coins overall this week and also to Evelyn and Summer who are our superstars for excellent effort and achieving personal bests in the coins they have earned!

Really hope everyone has a lovely weekend whatever you get up to.

Please feel free to get in touch with anything you have been up to. I really love to hear what you are doing. I miss you all very much!

  • Friday 19th June (Miss Day)

    Hello everyone!

Here we are again on another Friday after what has felt like a bit of a long week this week! Where has that beautiful sunshine gone? It definitely helped ease the strange situation we're in. Fingers crossed it will be back soon.

I hope you are all well. I have been making calls to the class this week and it has been so lovely to speak to everyone. It really makes me so happy to hear what you have all been up to. It is great to hear that you have been working hard on homeschooling activities but also managed to make some fun family memories too! Just a few of the interesting tales I have heard: Margot (and family) were trying out a rope-swing, Lily has been raising money for charity with roller-booting and trolley pushing, Daniel has been on long bike rides down Middlewood Way and Ella has been very patiently looking after her new playful puppy. Joseph also emailed me some of the schoolwork he has been completing. He sent a link to an 'Art Attack' he has made with his brothers. It is brilliant! He said he didn't mind if I shared it with the class in case anyone wanted to have a look. So if you would like to see, here is the link:  https://youtu.be/nsdXCOZ0MSQ

I really enjoy receiving your emails and photographs of everything you have been up to - schoolwork or otherwise - so please feel free to get in touch on DB and let me know.

So - here are the all important stats for the week!!!

Reading Eggspress - This week we have 3 bronze medals for Elliott, Logan and Lauren. Well done guys!

TT Rockstars - We have a few names up on the board this week for improvements and time spent working on their times tables - Ella, Daniel, Benjamin, Max, Lauren. Special superstar mentions go to Margot, Stephanie, Jacob and Teddy for earning lots of coins this week. Fantastic work gang!

Also, several Bronze Certificates have been earned by Iris, Teddy, Minnie, Joseph, Elliott and Olivia. Very well done to you clever lot too!!

I will be continuing with calls over the next week, so if I have not managed to speak to you yet, hopefully we can chat soon. I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you are up to.

  • Friday 12th June (Miss Day)

    Happy Friday everyone!

Well it certainly feels a little bit strange to be writing to everyone at the end of the week, as well as at the beginning. I am already missing Mrs Eva but know how happy she is in her new home. She was completely overwhelmed by everyone's kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity in the gifts and well wishes that you sent. It really was so lovely of everyone.

I hope you all managed to have a relaxing and fun-filled half term, despite everything that has been going on. It has been so good to chat to some people over the past week on the phone, as I have been making more calls home. I will continue to call everyone over the next week or so to check in and see how everyone is. I really enjoy hearing what everyone has been up to. I am missing our class and school very much. It has been so long! Thank you again to all the children that keep in touch over DB email to send me messages and pictures to let me what you have been up to. I really love reading them all. Please feel free to send me anything you have been up to and I will try to get back to you as soon as I can. It was especially exciting to see a photo of Gogo's new kitten that she will be getting soon! Very cute!

So - I have been checking out all the data for our online resources and seeing who has been working extremely hard! I have to say I am so impressed by the effort that the class has been making - loads of you have been spending time working on our various resources despite having a two week holiday! I have taken the following information from over the past 3 weeks - so it does include our half term break too.

READING EGGSPRESS - Well done to the children who have earned trophies and medals. You have been doing so well with the effort have put in. Alice, Elliott, Logan and Lauren have all earned Bronze Medals.  A special shout out needs to go to Benjamin who has earned 2 Bronze Medals and 1 Silver Medallion!!! AMAZING Benjamin! Well done.

MATHLETICS - We have quite a few superstars who have been earning certificates this time. Bronze certificates go to...... Iris, Benjamin, Joseph and Olivia. Elliott, Lauren and Louie have all earned 3 Bronze Certificates each!!!! WOW! Elliot, Iris and Lauren have all earned Silver Certificates too! INCREDIBLE WORK! Elliott has even earned himself a Gold Certificate! What a superstar! Fantastic work Elliott - all three colours! And special well done to everyone else earning certificates from the past 3 weeks. Keep up the hard work everyone!

TT ROCKSTARS - Excellent work to the children who have been spending time on TT Rockstars. It is obvious your speed and accuracy is improving hugely! Teddy, Jake, Louie, Holly, Ella, Jacob, Max, Lily, Margot and Olivia have all been working really hard. Superstar mention needs to go to Ella who has been doing lots of practise and earned herself loads of coins! Well done Ella!

Missing everyone very much. Take care and speak soon.

  • Friday 29th May (Mrs Eva)

To our super special year three families,

We hope that you are all doing ok and enjoying some time off from homeschooling – whether it is filling your faces with ice cream, splashing around in your paddling pool or going for lovely walks, I hope that you are having a super time in the sunshine.

Although we do not officially have to blog this week, I couldn’t think of another way to say thank you to you all for your unbelievable kindness. I was completely overwhelmed to receive your gifts and cards this week – they could not be more perfect. It is safe to say that there were more than a few tears shed but lots of smiles too whilst watching the DVD of your incredible children – it means a lot that you have taken the time to put this together. Hopefully we will get to see each other at some point soon so I can say thank you properly.

Enjoy making lots of memories over the coming weeks before you return to school.

Sending you all my love and thanks for the last time,

    Fiona Eva xxx

  • Friday 22nd May (Mrs Eva)

    Happy holidays everybody,

It seems really bizarre to be saying that to you all for the second time when we haven’t actually seen you in school since before the last holiday! This week we want to start by saying how lovely it has been to catch up with so many of you. We have missed you, your loveliness and, for some of you, your cheekiness so much! Highlights for us have been hearing that Teddy learnt to ride his bike, Holly and Jake’s ‘Caveman’ topic, Alice’s rainbow wall horse, Louie’s significant quantity of baking (Mrs. Eva has not forgotten that you promised her some when she comes back!), Joseph’s family quizzes and his ‘Under the Sea’ family project, Max’s kindness at delivering chocolates to his friends on his 8 or 9km bike ride, Sam’s Lego base, Daisy’s family history and Daisy-May’s Barbie escapades (she reckons she’s got even more than Mrs. Eva had when she was little – hard to believe I know but definitely not possible!) As well as all of this, we have been hearing just how hard you have been working in your own ways. It is safe to say that we are so, so, SO proud of each and every one of you for getting through this so happily and doing yourselves and your families proud as well.

Speaking of work, here are our online superstars this week…

TTRockstars: To everyone who has had a go at their times tables this week, well done! There are so many of you who are just doing brilliantly – well done!

Reading Eggspress: Only Louie has a certificate this week – a silver. Well done Louie – this must fast be becoming your favourite colour!

    Mathletics:

We have 9 bronze certificates this week, awarded to the following… Iris, Daniel, Benjamin, Emma, Joseph, Elliott, Logan, Lauren and Louie – congratulations gang!

We also have 1 silver certificate this week earned by Joseph – well done Mr. Monds!

As you know, we always love a gold certificate and this week we have another to award to none other than…………. JOSEPH! You really have been working hard and we are so impressed with you and all that you have achieved in Year 3 this year. Well done again!

Make sure that you find time to have a proper break over the next couple of weeks and enjoy the precious time that you have together before you return to school. Mrs. Day is looking forward to seeing you all very, very much.

Take care and lots of love as always,

Mrs. Eva and Mrs. Day xx

  • Friday 15th May (Mrs Eva)

Happy Friday to each and every one of you,

We hope that you have had a great week of fun and frolics with loads of learning thrown into the mix naturally!

It is starting to feel like such a long time since we saw you all last and we are missing you like crazy. Those super smiles, the million questions a day, the lightbulb moments, the everything! You guys are AMAZING and we could not be luckier to have been your teachers this year.

This week we are celebrating the following…

    TTRockstars

    For super speediness…

Rafin, Elliott. Logan, Benjamin, Jacob, Jake, Dillon, Ella, Max, Teddy, Holly, Evelyn, Sam and Lily – Holly and Lily, absolute legends who deserve a special mention for being on the table this week – well done you lovely little ladies!

    Mathletics:

Iris, Steph, Emma, Sam, Joseph, Elliott, Logan, Gogo and Louie have all done their weekly quota and have achieved a bronze certificate – well done you guys! Special mention this week has to go to Louie for achieving ANOTHER silver certificate. It is fair to say that the time that Louie spends on Mathletics pays dividends in his Maths learning and we are so proud of all of his mathematical achievements this year.

    Reading Eggspress:

Iris, Alice, Minnie, Logan, Lily and Evelyn – well done girls (and guy!!!) on achieving your certificates this week. Iris you little legend… you have received two certificates and Minnie, beyond legend… you have received THREE certificates this week. Well done you!!!

This week, Behaviour Support Services (BSS) have sent out an email to all forest school practitioners about what they have been up to during lockdown. Kelly (the head of BSS) has produced some videos on some of the outdoor fun that you could have. These are being updated weekly. You can find them at the following address… https://www.behavioursupportservice.co.uk/bss-forest-school-resources/ Enjoy!

Have a lovely weekend everyone - lots of love,

Mrs. Eva and Mrs. Day xxxx

    An extra note…

I just want to say thank you for the messages that I have received from parents, grandparents and children about my unfortunately timed departure. It really has meant a lot – thank you. It’s fair to say that the romantic idea that I had in my head of how this would all work, both for school and at home went a bit off course! It goes without saying that I will miss All Saints’ massively – it has been such a huge part of my life for ten years. I count my blessings that I have had chance to bow out working with this amazing class (my absolute favourite – don’t tell anyone else! ;o)) It has also been great to work with all of you too, some of whom I knew well, others I didn’t. Thank you for working with us and trusting us to do our best for your children – it makes a huge difference to the job that we are able to do. I truly hope to be back to see everyone soon to say a proper goodbye.

Thanks again, take care and lots and lots of love and hugs,

    Mrs. Eva xxx

  • Friday 8th May (Mrs Eva)

Happy long weekend everyone - I hope that you have got lots of fun things planned to celebrate VE day today.

Week six of lockdown (I think - I have lost track of the weeks!) and things are starting to feel a little bit normal now. In the Eva house we have our daily routine of a little bit of work in the morning, with super long breaks and lots of arty and outdoor stuff in the afternoon. It is working ok for us so far, however I think Will has realised that having a mum who has been a year 2 teacher for a long time is a bit annoying - he can't get away with anything!

Thanks for all the super messages - we love the updates we receive. Jacob, your chickpea curry and homemade bread looked awesome and inspired us for tea last night - thank you! smiley

The following children been busy working on Mathletics this week. We have bronze certificates awarded to Iris, Daniel, Minnie, Elliott, Logan, Gogo and Louie – well done guys! Minnie, Logan and Gogo have also worked super hard to achieve their silver award and I am incredibly chuffed to announce that Logan has achieved a gold certificate – why am I not surprised?! Logan you work so very hard and this is totally deserved, well done.

Well done to all of those children who continue to make it onto the TT Rockstars table – some of you are getting very speedy now. We have a new entry onto the table this week… Daniel, yay!!!! It is lovely to see that you are working so hard and that your times are getting quicker – keep up the hard work. We are so proud of you.

We know that everyone will be reading lots of books at home but it is great to see some of you using Reading Eggspress too. The following children have been reading on here... Evelyn, Ella, Steph, Teddy, Ben, Jacob, Max, Joseph, Dillon, Gogo, Iris, Minnie, Elliott, Lily, Logan, Daisy W and Louie – great to see that you have been using this to help you get even better at your reading. Just to remind you that Reading Eggs in aimed at Key Stage 1 and Reading Eggs at Key Stage 2 – make sure that you do the placement test. Be mindful of your child’s reading level when you choose which placement test to do and if you have any questions, please contact us through your child's DB account.

    Blowing You A Kiss - https://rainbowscribbles.co.uk/blowing-you-a-kiss/

If you haven’t seen this already, it is an online book that might help those children who are finding it hard not seeing family members. Fingers crossed for changes in the rules next week! You can make a donation, should you so wish, with all proceeds going to The Association of NHS Charities.

Have a super amazing weekend - fingers crossed that the sunshine keeps shining - how lucky have we been?!

Look forward to hearing from you all next week. Huge hugs to everyone,

    Mrs. Eva xxx

  • Monday 4th May (Mrs Parry)

    Hello everyone.

I'm hoping that I have done this message right as you all know that Mrs Parry and ICT do not mix!

I am missing you all lots so I thought I would let you know what I have been doing at home.  I have been very busy home schooling Ethan. I am doing Year 7 work. At times I have had to Google what to actually do. I am a superstar with my fractions now! How are you all getting on with the home schooling? I have enjoyed learning lots of things I didnt know. Ethan has been a great teacher even though it's meant to be teaching him.  Luckily for me Katie can get on with work on her own. I am glad as she is Year 10.

We have been very busy baking. We bake Flapjacks weekly. We are just about getting them to perfection now. One batch we had to bin as they were as hard as rocks! We have made a Chocolate Cake. It was delicious!  Have any of you been baking? If so what have you baked? Don't forget that Mrs Parry likes to sample your baking so when we are back in school I would love to sample it.

Katie has painted my shed in my garden as a Volkswagen Camper Van as part of her school work for Design and Technology. It looks amazing. I will try to upload a photograph to show you all. This may take me a few days though.

I will write to you all again next week to let you know what I've been doing.

    Take care.

    Mrs Parry. xx

  • Monday 4th May (Miss Day)

    Hello everyone!

Here we are again! Another Monday in Lockdown! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend, making the most of the time with your families. Just to echo what Mrs Eva said on Thursday - Thank you so much to the children who send us emails to update us on what you are doing at home, and thanks too for the pictures. It makes us so happy to hear from you, whatever it is you want to share, as we really do miss you so much. We have had lots of emails this week so thank you! A special well done to the children who achieved high scores on our online resources, as Mrs Eva mentioned in the blog. Fantastic news!

It was also so lovely to see the video that has been created with the signs and messages from the children! I know all the staff absolutely loved it. It actually brought a tear to my eye! So lovely to see some cheery Year 3 faces to brighten my day! Well done and thank you so much to all those who were involved.

There are some new activities on the school website - on the Home Learning link. This week the focus is DT and Art. There are some brilliant activities to try - and imagine if we won the play equipment in the competition! It would be wonderful, so please have a go at the competition if you can. smiley

Also this week is special, as I am sure you are aware, as we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. Our Early May Bank Holiday has been changed to Friday in honour of this. There are lots of ideas and inspiration online so the children can learn about this important celebration and complete an activity to celebrate. Find more information in the links below on the history of VE Day and why we celebrate. When you have learnt about the reason and the importance behind the celebration, you could create a poster about VE Day or write a report on the history of VE Day. Why not try making some celebration bunting or decorations that may have been used at the street parties? You could even make a Union Jack flag to wave on Friday! Or why not try some VE Day recipes or make some VE Day celebration cakes? As always please send us any pictures or an email to let us know what you have been up to, if you decide to do any activities on the celebration.

  • Thursday 30th April (Mrs Eva)

    Hi gang,

Almost the weekend and time for a bit of a rest! We hope that you are all keeping safe and well - still missing you like crazy!

Thank you all so much for sending us messages about your home learning or just to say 'hi' - it helps us to know that you are doing ok and makes us smile so much! We have had more of you than ever in touch with us this week - we reckon you must be starting to miss school! wink

We know that loads of you will be getting on with your own things and learning in your own ways. That is brilliant and we hope that your home teachers aren't being too hard on themselves - they will be doing an amazing job. As well as all of your lovely activities, there are lots of things to celebrate this week from our usual online learning. Here goes...

TTRockstars: It is great to see how many of you have been working hard on your times tables - well done you super little lot! The following children all need a mention for super speed - Rafin, Elliott, Logan, Benjamin, Jake, Dillon, Ella, Jacob and Max - you all have times less that 3 seconds now which is incredible. You must have been working sooooo hard!

Mathletics: Bronze certificates this week are awarded to (drum roll.............) Steph, Teddy, Benjamin, Minnie, Joseph, Elliott, Lauren and Louie - well done you super troopers!

Reading Eggspress: We hope that you are all finding this easy to use and that it is providing lots of books for you to read at the appropriate level. If you haven't had chance to get onto this, please try and have a go this week. Great to see that Evelyn, Iris, Ella, Steph, Teddy, Jacob and Joseph have managed to suss it out! You're clearly far more clever than me - it took a while!

If your morning dose of Mr. Wicks is becoming tiresome, then you could try something different. We know that some of us are a little bit Potter-mad in Year 3. For you, I have found 'get kids moving' on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCokO71NW3TgndaSNyHIqwtQ

They have loads to choose from including Superheroes and Star Wars ones - get your wands/light sabers at the ready!

Keep the emails and photo's coming in and take care of yourselves - have a lovely weekend.

Mrs. Eva and Mrs. Day xx

  • Monday 27th April (Miss Day)

    Hello everyone!

Here we are at the start of another week. I hope everyone is well and coping in these very weird circumstances. The weather over the past week or so has certainly helped. As Mrs Eva said, thank you so much to everyone who has been keeping in touch with what they are up to - we absolutely love hearing about the inventions, stories, baking and how you have been using our online resources. Thanks for all the pictures that have been sent through as well.

It sounds like most people are starting to find some structure in their days which is great. As Mrs Eva mentioned on Friday, there are great ideas and suggestions on the school homepage, as well as the tasks we have set online. I am sure you are already aware, but BBC Bitesize has recently put up some fantastic resources too for a variety of subjects. There is also the Reading Eggpress resource (passwords I sent out last week), if you have not yet been on it, please have a go!

We have also been made aware of a competition being run by 'Step into the NHS'. Children are encouraged to send a 'Thank You' to our inspiring NHS staff members. There is lots of information about the competition on the website including details of what to do, how to enter, free competition pack and the deadline dates. https://www.stepintothenhs.nhs.uk/primary-schools/KS2-competition

Have a great week everyone. Thinking of you all - we really do miss you all SO much! Don't forget to keep us updated on what you're getting up to!

    Take care,

    Mrs Day and Mrs Eva

  • Friday 24th April (Mrs Eva)

    Hi everyone,

How are you all doing? We hope that you have had a super week in the sunshine and that you are all starting to find some sort of normality. The weather has been very kind us so far and it has meant for a lot of us that we have taken our learning outdoors. We have been hearing about all sorts of fun that people have been up to. From going on lovely walks to camping out, hiking to the moon and baking unicorn cakes, it really does sound like you are having a great time. Thank you so much to all of those families who have sent their inventions through for Mrs. Noble’s English project. We are pleased to announce that the winner is… Teddy with his ‘Happy Zapper 2000’!  What a lovely invention indeed. I will try and post a picture but as you know, Mrs. Eva and technology really is not a winning combo!! We also had entries from Steph who created a Chatty Hat, Benjamin with his Robot Teacher and Emma with her Workatron - all brilliant, thank you again.

Please continue to share your escapades with us – we are absolutely loving hearing from you! Just to remind you that home learning activities can be accessed on the homepage of the school website as follows: https://allsaintsprimarymarple.co.uk/stockport/primary/allsaints-pri/site/pages/parents/coronavirus/homeschoollearning

Honestly, we miss you all beyond words and look forward to catching up soon.

Mrs. Eva and Mrs Day xxxx

  • Monday 20th April (Miss Day)

    Hello everyone!

We should now be back in school after our Easter break, but sadly we are all still at home and I am sending this message over the internet! sad

We hope you all managed to have some fun and relaxation over the Easter holiday, and maybe you even had a visit from the Easter Bunny smiley. We have been so lucky with the weather and that is definitely helping with the unusual circumstances that we find ourselves in. Thank you so much to the children who have sent us emails and photos of the activities to show what you have been up to. We love hearing from you and seeing everything that has been keeping you busy. It is brilliant to see who has been achieving certificates on Mathletics and improving their scores on Times Table Rockstars - keep it up everyone! This morning I sent out log on details for our new English resource, by email on DB. Let me know if you haven't received it and I can send again.

Although we know we are uncertain of what will be happening in the coming weeks and months, I have attached the spelling list for the full summer term ahead. If your child usually works in a group for spellings with Ms Shaw or Mrs Parry, please use the Y2 summer spelling lists also attached. This term, rather than including 'Topic Wow Words', we have included some of the more challenging words off the National Curriculum Word Lists. We will set up a forum on DB where your child can let us know their spelling scores after you have tested them at home, or if they would prefer to send us an email over DB they can do that. At the bottom of the spelling list, we have also attached a "Spelling Menu" with some suggestions of more unusual methods of how to practise their spellings before testing them. If you have any other intersting ideas please let us know!

Just wanted to say how much we miss you all and really miss being in school! Don't forget we love to see what you have been up to so please send emails and pictures!

    Have a great week everyone.laugh

    Mrs Day and Mrs Eva

  • Friday 3rd April (Mrs Eva)

Two weeks down and we are missing you all so much.

As Mrs. Day said, it has been so good to hear from you via DB and to see what you have been getting up to. Although the days seem to merge together and I for one am totally mixed up with days, it is the last day of term today. We will therefore not be setting any additional work nor do we have any expectation that you will be asking your children to complete work tasks during the break. Likewise, we may not be as hot on the DB responses. If you have any questions or things you wish to discuss relating to school then please contact Mrs. Morton and Mrs. Gaynor via the headteacher email at headteacher@allsaints-pri.stockport.sch.uk .

It feels difficult at the moment to find time for yourself but it is important to look after your own well-being as well as your little ones. The ‘Headspace’ app is a great way to wind down, offering breathing exercises and mindfulness or for those of you who are feeling a bit more energetic, the ‘Streaks’ app is amazing – hard work but amazing - and can thankfully be adapted to suit your fitness level! You do have to pay for it (£3.99 I think) but I can highly recommend it as a good way of exercising at home!

We truly hope that you manage to find some normality over the next couple of weeks and that the Easter Bunny is extra kind to everyone this year!

We look forward to hearing about all of your escapades after the holidays.

    Please take care,

    Mrs. Eva xxx

  • Wednesday 1st April (Miss Day)

    Hello everyone,

I hope everyone is ok and staying safe. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has emailed/posted pictures of the activities and learning they have been doing over the past few days. While we are missing school and the class so much, it is so lovely to hear what you are all up to and see some pictures. We have had planting and growing seeds, baking, letter writing, rainbow painting, dress making for barbies and I loved seeing Mrs Eva's, Will and Finn's outside den they have been building! Keep us updated on what you are getting up to - it really is a joy to see!

Of course there are all the activities here on DB that can be completed as well as the mathletics problem solving tasks I posted on Monday.

Hope you are all well and enjoy the weekend.

    Mrs Day

  • Monday 30th March (Miss Day)

    Hello everyone!

Feels very weird to be writing this message on a Monday rather than being in class with everyone. I really miss you all and really miss being in school so much! I hope you are all keeping busy and staying healthy. We have had a couple of emails off some children - and it is so lovely to hear all about what you are up to.

I know everyone has loads of activities to help get on with their learning and will be busy with other tasks like cooking, gardening and playing sports in the garden (some of the fun the children have been telling me about they have had so far!). Just to let you know, I have added a couple of problem solving tasks to Matheltics. We sent 'Login Details'  for Matheltics home in the brown envelopes with the tests and children's other passwords. A notification for the problem solving task should appear when you log in. I just chose a couple of problem solving questions to remind us of some of the learning from earlier in Year 3. Let me know how you get on - there is a 'Message Teacher' button where you can write a note to me. I will check in a couple of days and see how you have got on and I can set some more Mathletics tasks then.

Hope you and your family are all well. Don't forget to message and let us know how you are and what you are up to!

    Take care!

    Mrs Day and Mrs Eva

  • Friday 27th March (Mrs Eva)

Happy Friday everyone after what has been a slightly crazy week.

We hope that you are all keeping safe and well and that you have had a lovely week in the sunshine, with maybe a little bit of learning thrown in.

Each week we will add a new topic to the forum on DB - if you look down the right hand side of your child's homepage, it will say '..... added a new topic for you'. This is an idea of something that might be nice for the children to do or just a question to think about and reply to to keep us all in touch. Please don't forget your child can email us via DB - one of us at least will be checking in each day to reply to emails or send out messages.

To those of you who are coping well with being at home with your kids, I absolutely salute you. Here is a brief run down of the Eva household this week...

Day 1: 9am – Joe Wicks workout done, feeling good. Will cracks on and Finn ASKS to do phonics – oh yes! Snack time – my children actually play…TOGETHER!! I am living the dream – I am totally smashing this – I love my kids beyond words and am excited about all the time that lies ahead. (PS. not sure teacher should tell you this but we did no more than 11/2  hours of proper work).

Day 2: 9am - Kids Zumba done – loving life even more than yesterday. Will cracks on and Finn ASKS to do more sentences… is this actually happening?! Snack time – we chat and laugh together. Afternoon, nature scavenger hunt along the canal; birds singing, sun shining through the trees – life seriously cannot get any better. Loving this time with my boys!

Day 3: 9am – Kids Zumba done… again (I’m going to be seriously good at these routines in a few months time!) Will cracks on and Finn asks NOT to do phonics… or sentences. Meltdown ensues. Let the downward spiral commence! Thank goodness I am in school tomorrow - could do with the break! ;o)

Day 4: Had a lovely day in school with 14 children building assault courses, lighting fire, making bread. All Saints'... I miss you all so much. Lovely to see Mrs Pratt, Mrs Clayton and Bella and Lauren over the fence to say 'hi' to. Oh, and I did miss my boys too. heart

Day 5: It's Friday and the sun in shining again - today is going to be a good day... today is going to be a good day... today is going to be a good day... I hope! frown

Look forward to hearing from you all soon - take care.

  • Friday 20th March (Mrs Eva)

Well, what a bizarre set of circumstances we find ourselves in!

Today has been somewhat emotional day for us all in a whole host of ways. We cannot express to you just how sad we all feel to have said goodbye to your children today. They are truly an incredible bunch to work with - we will miss them so very much.

In order to try and support you over the coming weeks/months, we have set lots of challenges to consolidate our learning so far this year on DB Primary. As we personally do not agree with mega loads of screen time, we also can't wait to see Home Learning books (which came home yesterday) filled with projects or pictures of all the fun things that you will hopefully have chance to do. Use the time to learn how to bake (if you can get any ingredients wink), sew, paint, draw pictures or write letters to old people's homes, get outdoors, learn how to tell the time or cross the road safely - most importantly have a nice time together.

DB also enables the children to keep in touch with each other and us. The children are able to send messages or ask questions if they are unsure of something. This is a nice way for them to keep in touch safely and hear what everyone has been up to.

Today has seen us say goodbye to Miss Gillon whose placement has sadly been drawn to an abrupt end. Thank you for all that you have done for our children - it has been a pleasure to watch you blossom over the past weeks. You are an amazing teacher and we will miss you lots.

Finally, thanks for all of your kind words and support over the last few days and to those of you who are key workers in whatever capacity, thank you for all that you are doing to keep everyone safe.

Look after each other and we hope you see you soon,

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Parry and Miss Gillon

  • Friday 13th March (Mrs Eva)

Another great week in Class Three...

The highlight of our week was heading to John Rylands on Wednesday and being priviledged enough to work with papyrus scrolls, some of which were over 2500 years old. The children thoroughly enjoyed their session at the library (as did we smiley )

In English we have been building up to writing a diary entry as Tadeo Jones as part of our Ancient Egypt topic. The children have enjoyed this work hugely and Miss Gillon has worked super hard with the class to achieve some wonderful writing.

It's fair to say that everybody seems to love statistics! In Maths this week we have looked at bar charts, pictograms and tables, drawing them and solving tricky questions.

In Science, we have continued observing our plants in different environments and recorded data in tables for this. It's looking like our 'fridge plant' is currently in the lead. We'll be trying to decide why next week!

According to Mrs. Cochrane the portraits look great - we look forward to adding our finishing touches next week and then being able to display them for all to see.

A letter will be coming home today about the Rugby Megafest at Marple Rugby Club on the next Friday morning 20th March (apologies for confusing people last week - no idea where cricket came from!!!) Any questions please ask.

    Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Miss Gillon, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 6th March (Mrs Eva)

Happy, happy Friday one and all!

It has felt like a long week this week what with all of the assessments that we have had to do but honestly, hand on hearts, your children have done themselves proud. Every single one of our simply awesome class has tackled their challenges with an amazingly positive attitude and we are so so proud of what they have achieved. Well done gang!

From Alice to Aslan, Thursday saw us dress up as our favourite characters or literary heroes. The children enjoyed a lovely afternoon of World Book Day fun with Miss Gillon and Mrs. Shaw.

The children have also been busy this week writing setting descriptions on their video clip of Tadeo Jones an explorer who enters a mysterious tomb. Their writing this morning blew our socks off - personification, similies, metaphors and fronted adverbials have been the order of the day and the class have applied their learning superbly.

Please do not forget that we are off to Manchester on Wednesday for our class trip to John Rylands. We will be back for lunchtime so just do as you normally do for your child's lunch.

Finally, Class 3 will be taking part in the Rugby Megafest at Marple Cricket Club on the morning of Friday 20th March - a letter will be coming home next week with more details.

Enjoy the weekend and good luck England tomorrow.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Miss Gillon, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 28th February (Mrs Eva)

Welcome back everyone - we hope that you all had a great break over half term.

It won't surprise you to know that Class three have been working exceptionally hard this week. From letters from Howard Carter in English to the class three tuck shop in Maths, the children have worked their little socks off and learnt lots along the way.

Science this week has seen us begin our work on plants - we hope that the weather starts to warm up a bit soon so that we can head outdoors and see what's going on out there! We have continued our art work on Tutankhamun, with us now entering into the final draft stage of our portrait - they are looking fab! Our dreams and goals garden will be starting to take shape next week using the flowers that we have created to tell everyone about what our aspirations are.

Just a reminder to encourage the children to be reading five times a week and recording it in their reading records please. It is one of their ice cream targets too so it needs super focus! Thanks for your support with this.

Looking forward to another busy week next week - have a great weekend.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Saturday 8th February (Mrs Eva)

    Hi all,

This week we have been busy with our class assembly rehearsals - thank you to those of you who have mailed a family picture or sent one in. As long as we have them by close of play on Tuesday we should be ok to use them so please mail them to admin@allsaints-pri.stockport.sch.uk if you have a minute.

Maths has seen us continue our learning on multiplication and division - we have been working on short written methods of multiplication applying them to word problems too. Reckon we could give years 5 and 6 a run for their money we've done so well. wink Next week we are moving on to division (everybody's favourite!)  We will talk lots about it being the inverse (opposite) of multiplication and think about how we can use our times tables to help us to divide. We will be using empty numberlines (just ask your child!) and starting to 'chunk' numbers to help us get quicker. If you want a demonstration, please just ask. It's definitely not anything we ever did at school!

The highlight of everybody's week was their art lesson on Thursday, where our new in-house artist, Miss Gillon, taught the children lots of art techniques ready for after the holidays where they will finish their portraits of King Tut. They have really impressed us with their attitude to their art work and we can't wait to show off their finished pieces in a few weeks.

Finally, we want to end by saying that while we still have one more swimming session left, your children have been incredible during their lessons. Mrs. Eva has spent a few sessions in the water with some of the children but spent Friday watching them all from the sidelines. She was so proud of the progress that they have made and the confidence that they all showed. Well done to each and every one of you. Special shout out has to go to Rafin... what an absolutely determined, resilient and amazing effort over the past few weeks. You are a superstar!

See you on Wednesday morning for assembly if not before.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Parry and Miss Gillon

  • Friday 31st January (Mrs Eva)

    Hi everyone,

This week we have continued reading our new novel - the children have been hooked, raring to find out what was going happen next to Lil and the jar! We have worked hard on our comprehension questions this week.

In Maths, we have continued our work on multiplication, using our related calculations and the expanded method to help us work out big questions like 81 x 3. While we have found this quite tricky, we have all had a really good go!

Thursday saw us become artists and we have started our portraits of Tutankhamun. We have learnt an abundance of new skills from Miss Gillon who, it is safe to say, is now a fully fledged member of the Class 3 team!

Well done to all of you who earned a Mathletics certificate for last weeks competition - we are so proud of all of your hard work. Keep it up!

Reminders... Please continue to read 5 times a week; Matheletics and TTRockstars help lots and are your homework! Spellings - please encourage your child to write sentences which include their spellings so that they understand the meaning and show that they can put them in a context too.

    Have  a lovely weekend.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Parry and Miss Gillon

  • Friday 24th January (Mrs Eva)

It's Friday again - a very happy weekend everyone!

This week has seen us start our new novel, 'The Secrets of a Sun King' and we have been delighted by the children's response to the book.  They have written some imaginative, (if not fairly brief!) letters to Grandad from Professor Hanawati, telling him about the mystery that lies within a secret parcel. Super exciting stuff!

In Maths, we have had a week of working on written methods of calculation; column addition and subtraction. We have chosen to do this now to support your children in their forthcoming termly assessments. These are not until after half term but we wanted to be a bit ahead of the game! They have loved feeling all grown up using these methods and we have had some super work sent in from home - thank you to those of you who have managed to have a go with your child.

As we explained in celebration assembly today, the class are absolutely loving their Long, long ago topic and as well as the English work they have done, they have also learned about hieroglyphics, taken a trip into Tutankhamun's tomb and had a visit from Howard Carter.

This week we have also welcomed Miss Gillon to Class 3. Miss Gillon is a 3rd year trainee teacher who we are lucky enough to have working with us until Easter. A huge All Saints' welcome to you Miss Gillon - we hope that you love our school as much as we do!

Finally, Mrs. Parry was more than a little chuffed today by the number of children who have read at least five times this week. We cannot thank you enough for supporting with this at home. As parents, we know how difficult it is to juggle everything; work, school, clubs, playdates - the list is endless. Even a little reading each day can be tricky to squeeze in but really does make a huge difference so thank you. A well-deserved book went to Margot today. We can't wait to see who will be next.

Look forward to seeing you next week for more fun and games, oh and lots of learning of course! :o)

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Parry and Mrs. Shaw

  • Friday 17th January (Mrs Eva)

    Another busy week...

Maths has seen us applying our times tables to more challenging numbers and work on some REALLY challening reasoning and problem solving questions, so hard that even Mrs. Parry and Mrs. Eva's heads hurt afterwards! Everyone has had a really good go at their maths work this week and we really are exceptionally pleased with everyone's resilience.

In English, we have finished our work on The Egyptian Cinderella by writing our own narrative using the story plot. We have had to include a range of verbs, comparative language including whereas, although and but. We have also had to ensure that we follow our carefully laid plan - a tricky skill for children even further up the school! We have been very impressed by the quality and presentation of the writing - now need to work on pace (yes, it really is never-ending!) Next week will be moving on to a new text, The Secrets of a Sun King. We will be using chapters 1 and 2 only, so please don't read ahead if you purchase it!

In topic, we have been using historical evidence again to help us find out about life in Ancient Egypt as well as starting to look at the process of mummification. Next week we will be looking at hieroglyphics, comparing life in the past to life today and beginning our learning about King Tutankhamen - we are a bit excited about this!

    Enjoy your weekend,

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Parry and Mrs. Shaw

In Science, we have continued our work

  • Friday 10th January (Mrs Eva)

Happy New Year everybody! Just want to start by reiterating Mrs. Day's message. I hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and want to start by also offering my thanks to you for your lovely cards, messages and gifts for Christmas. It really was so very kind of you. Mrs. Eva xx

Onto our first week back and the super work that has been going on in Class 3. We have started work on a new book this week, The Egyptian Cinderella, which this has seen us journey back thousands of years to begin our learning for our new topic, Long, Long Ago. In Maths we have been working hard on our multiplication facts for the 3s, 4s and 8s. We have been very impressed by how confident everyone is becoming. :o)

In topic, we have looked back on timelines at where the Ancient Egyptians sit and have started to consider life in Ancient Egypt by looking at various artefacts and the clues that they might give us. We have really enjoyed our first week of learning and can see that this is going to be a great topic.

Some of you may have had letters about interventions this week - these are nothing for you to worry about, they are to support your child in areas that they may find challenging. Please ask if you have any questions or concerns.

Spellings for the term should also have come home today. All children have chosen their own spellings to learn this week from the year 1/2 or 3/4 spelling lists. Some children may not have received the correct list of spellings for the whole term. We will send the right ones home next week. Apologies.

Parents evening takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday - please ask if you are unsure of your time slot. It is a great opportunity for us to chat and support one another so if for any reason you can't make it, please let us know.

    Have a great weekend.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Monday 6th January (Miss Day)

Merry Christmas from the Year Three team!

We hope that you all have a lovely time with your family and friends. Class Three are under strict instruction to enjoy their holidays, have a great big rest and lots of fun! smiley

  • Friday 13th December (Mrs Eva)

One more week and counting... We think it's fair to say that everyone is getting a little bit giddy about the fact that the big day is now 12 sleeps away!

This week we had the pleasure of meeting up with our Linking School partner, St. John’s C.E. Primary School for the first time. Lyme Park was an ideal opportunity for us to play and get to know each other a little. From hide and seek to chase and den building, we had a super day in the sunshine. For us, it was great to see the children have the opportunity to just be children without any pressure and to see them flourish in a new situation. We were so proud of how well they behaved and how kind and polite they were with their newfound friends. Great job to all of you for raising such a lovely gang! Highlight of the day was Emma and her sheer delight at the prospect of making new friends. She definitely came away with a handful, if not more!

After this great start to the week, we enjoyed reflecting on our experience in English, while Maths has seen us solving ‘what if…’ problems using logic and reasoning skills and helping Mrs. Claus find her missing puddings, testing our code breaking and co-ordinate skills.

    Just to remind you…

Tuesday is our trip to Marple Cinema in the morning and our party in the afternoon. Please see the previous letters sent home.

Thursday evening – it would be great to see as many of you at All Saints’ Church as possible for our evening carol service which starts at 6pm. Children are to wear Christmas jumpers with their usual uniform.

There is no swimming on the last day of term. Instead, we invite you to our afternoon Christmas carol service (a repeat of the Thursday evening service) which starts at 1.45pm. Again, children are to wear Christmas jumpers.

Swimming sessions will resume on the first Friday back (10th January).

    Have a great weekend everyone,

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 6th December (Mrs Eva)

It’s Friday! Another great week in class three.

This week has seen us working on telling the time in five minute intervals in Maths. As teachers we all know just how challenging it can be to teach and learn telling the time – it is a really difficult concept but one that we obviously have to master. We have done pretty well with minutes past the hour but have found the other side of the clock a little bit trickier! For those who haven’t yet sent their lists to Santa, a watch may well be a good idea!

In English, we have been using our debating skills to put our point of view across on recycling. It’s fair to say that we did this in a far more grown up way than most politicians! Well done Class Three. We have started our learning about humans and animals in Science, and Discovery (RE) has seen us venture up to All Saints’ Church to look for signs of the trinity, then creating our own ‘3-in-1’.

As we head into next week we are starting to feel festive and will be lucky enough to watch the KS1 Christmas dress rehearsal – it’s crazy to think that this time last year it was this amazing little lot who were up there having their moment!

Monday is our trip to Lyme Park as part of the Year 3 ‘Linking Schools’ project. As it stands, the forecast looks dry and a bit chilly. Please can we ask you to ensure that your child has a suitable coat and footwear e.g. wellies or hiking boots and a named packed lunch and drink with them.

Enjoy your weekend – 19 sleeps!

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 29th November (Mrs Eva)

Wow, wow, wow! We could not be more proud of the school of fish that we saw at Grand Central this afternoon – class three were simply awesome during their first swimming session. Despite a few nerves, every single one of them had a go and did so incredibly well. AMAZING!

Swimming this week was a great end to a week full of challenges in school - spelling, grammar, maths and reading have been the order of most of our week and we again, have given everything our best shot - well done gang! As well as this, we have continued working hard on our four times table (some superb scores coming through on ttrockstars - thanks for your support at home) and learnt lots of fancy geography words including latitude, longitude, hemispheres, equator and poles. The highlight of our week was making our own fossils in Science - we can't wait to see what they turn out like!

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at everybody's reading books to ensure that they are reading the correct band. When it comes to reading, we endeavour to hear every child read as often as is possible. Children may also be heard by teaching assistants and reading volunteers. The most important thing for us, is that your children read and enjoy reading. Whatever they read, we want to hear about it so please write in their record as often as you can and encourage them to comment too (five times a week in accordance with homework guidance).

    Other bits…

Today at swimming, Sue (our swimming teacher) asked that if your child needs to wear goggles, you could please send a note in for us to give to her. The pool is keen to teach the children without goggles for water safety.

Wishing you a happy weekend – see you all next week.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 22nd November (Mrs Eva)

    Morning all!

For those of you old enough to remember The Clothes Show (not many of you!),  think Selina Scott, Jeff Banks, Caryn Franklin and then replace them with Mrs. Day, Miss Taylor, Mrs. Cochrane and Mr. McShane as this week finally saw the children get their chance to take to the catwalk to showcase their amazing fashion designs in our All Saints' Trashion Show. Rumour has it that a few have been signed up and will heading to Manchester Fashion Institute to commence their work soon! Well done Class Three!

As well as this super chance to show our creative flair, we have also finished our work on The Great Kapok Tree by writing a dilemma story and have worked hard to edit our work independently using our editing stations - it's amazing how we can make our work even better with a little bit of time just working on our key grammar and spellling targets for Year Three.

Maths has seen us start to look at some 'test' type questions ahead of our termly assessment week (nothing to worry about and no pressure - just part of what we have to do!) The children have embraced their challenges this week and we are super proud, as ever. Bring on next week we say!

We have also worked especially hard towards our Ice Cream targets this week, with lots of gaining a few more scoops as well as commencing our work on the Trinity by thinking about water and linking it to Baptism - challenging stuff but tackled with usual resilience.

Another super week everyone well done!

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 15th November (Mrs Eva)

Another Friday... where are the weeks going?!

This week has seen us busying ourselves with fractions, working out fractions of amounts and doing a great job at it - well done everyone!

In English, we have continued our work on The Great Kapok Tree, preparing ourselves to write our own dilemma story next week. We can't wait to see the results!

This week has also seen us create superhero t-shirts, look at how we perceive boys and girls, reasons why people might bully and how it feels when people are unkind. We have also thought about kindness and have created our own 15 random acts of kindness to carry out at home and at school - look out for some extra special kind acts heading your way! smiley All this has formed part of our work on Anti-bullying week under the theme 'change starts with us'.

We have set everyone on automatic training on ttrockstars which will mean that how it works for your child is different to how it has previously, however, we have seen tremendous results with the trial group and year 4 and year 6 have also reported great progress in terms of speed of response. It may seem that the questions being asked are too simple, however, until your child is fast enough in tehir answer, it will not move them on. Good luck everyone and keep up the hard work - you are trying so hard and we are very proud.

    Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

    Friday 8th November (Fiona Eva)

    Happy weekend everyone!

Another busy but exciting week in class three - Monday saw us meet all of the ks2 teachers throughout the day when we took part in a fab carousel of learning all based around Remembrance. We have continued our learning throughout the week and have been fascinated to learn lots about life during the war, why ww1 started and how codes helped, even becoming code breakers ourselves. We created poems and pieces of art and had a really great time! Thank you from class three to Miss Taylor, Mrs. Cochrane and Mr. McShane for making our day so lovely! We can't wait to do more things with you all like this! smiley

Aside from all of this, we have also written all about ourselves as part of our Linking Schools project and have continued our work on The Great Kapok Tree. We are loving this book! We will start our own dilemma story next week using what we have been learning to help.

In Maths, most of our focus has been on our three times table and division facts, building up our confidence and speed and also applying this to some quite challenging problems.

What with Science, forest school, recycling heroes and so much more, it really has been a jam-packed week and we are sure that your lovely little ones will be ready for a rest this weekend! Enjoy and we will see you next week.

Mrs. Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

PS Wednesday is our last forest school session - please remember your kit and make sure that you have good gloves and socks... it was freezing outside last week even with a fire and is only due to get colder!

PPS Don't forget that Monday sees the start of the ttrockstars 'Rock Out'. Well done to everyone for their super work on ttrockstars since coming up to class three and special mention to those coming to Miss Taylor's Thursday morning club. You really are working so hard and we are very proud of you all.

    Hello everyone!

I just wanted to send biggest thanks and appreciation for all the wonderful cards, gifts and well wishes for our wedding. I was completely overwhelmed by everyone's kindness and very touched at all the lovely messages!

We had a wonderful day celebrating and enjoyed an excellent holiday in Crete during half term. I have not had chance to open all the cards and gifts with being away, so we relived the special day over the weekend when we spent time reading all the lovely messages.

    Thank you all so much.

    Lots of love

    MRS Day!

  • Saturday 19th October (Mrs Eva)

heart CONGRATULATIONS MS. DAY!!!! heart We are all so thrilled for you and hope that you and your lovely family had the most special day on Friday - we can't wait to hear all about it.

What an exciting (if not slightly damp!) end to an amazing half term. Thank you to all of those of you who managed to join us for the colour run on Friday. Whether you took part or stood back and observed from afar, we hope that you agree it was a pretty special way to end our super week in church. Over the course of the week, the children have taken part in a range of activities all supported by our incredible church volunteers. From nature art to graffiti walls and Bible stories to bell-ringing, the children have had a great experience and gained a whole lot more understanding of God's big colourful story.

As well as a busy week at church, in school, we have managed to produce our own collagraphs (stamps made from different textured materials and then printed onto paper) and overlapping art work in the style of Beatriz Milhazes, an amazing Brazilian artist. Even more exciting than this, we we have re-done our ttrockstars assessment from the start of the year. Not exciting on the face of it, but the scores that the children have achieved are beyond awesome, some  scoring more than 20 marks higher than in September! We were genuinely taken aback by the childrens attainment and cannot thank you enough for your support with ttrockstars at home.

All of the class three team have loved the last six and a half weeks with your children. None of us have ever known a class so eager and resilient, always striving to be the very best that they can be. Each and every one of your children takes tremendous care and pride in their work and the amount that they have already learnt in key stage two has blown us away. They really are a credit to you all.

Thanks for your support this half term - we hope that you all have a great holiday and can't wait to share the exciting run up to Christmas with your wonderful children. smiley

  • Friday 11th October (Mrs Eva)

    Evening all!

Hoping that you've all had great week. This week has been all about description in English. We have used our senses to help us describe the woodland of the Truffula trees in the Lorax, using clips from the film to help us visualise it. Our writing has also had to include amazing adjectives, similes, adverbs and sentence openers (a huge target for us in Year 3). We have used thesaurus and even Descriptosaurus to help us with our descriptions and they are, according to Mrs. Parry, on a par with Year 5s work from last year! wink We are super impressed with the committment your children have shown to their beautiful and creative writing.

In Maths this week we have moved away from number and calculation and on to shape. We have been sorting 2D shapes by their properties including right angles and regular and irregular shapes. We have even learnt two new unbelievably clever words... quadrilaterals and polygons!

We loved out outdoor session this week and were extremely lucky with the weather! Group two will start the first Wednesday back after the holidays - please remember to send your child in in their kit and with their uniform in a labelled bag.

We are looking forward hugely to Church Week next week and especially to out fun colour 'run' on Friday afternoon - the event will start at about 2.15pm on the school field. Don't forget to send your child in to school in old clothes and a white/plain t-shirt.

    Have a fab weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Parry and Mrs. Shaw

  • Friday 4th October (Mrs Eva)

Where has the week gone? Friday has arrived in the blink of an eye!

This week has seen us complete our Lorax letters and use editing stations to make our writing the best that it can be. Given that we haven't used these before, the class tackled the session with their usual resilience and enthusiasm. We have also completed a Dr. Seuss style piece of art work to go into our topic books alongside our final amazing draft. Maths has seen us continue our work on adding and subtracting. We have started to add 10s and 100s to 3-digit numbers as well as finding the difference (subtraction) by counting up (adding) - a tricky idea to get our heads around but Frankie has helped us brilliantly!

Wednesday saw our 'indoor' group undertake a great investigation on soil. The class were, as ever, completely engaged and loved working practically to gather their findings. Miss Day reported a great session was had by all! In forest school, we indulged in a bit of fire and marshmallow toasting again and we finally got 'pass the squeeze', teaching us to work together, support one another rather than blame and focus to achieve a positive outcome. Mrs. Eva was so proud and has loved working with the group over the last three weeks - thank you all for making our time outdoors so far such fun. Highlights have included, Iris, Lily and Louie's 'rough and tumble' themed birds nest, amazing resilience from Ella, Daniel and Dillon's group whose nest collapsed but was then re-built to be even better than before and some lovely time appreciating the wonder of our trees and the important part they play in our lives.

    Couple of bits...

FOREST SCHOOL - the whole class will be taking part in forest school on Wednesday next week. This will be the final session for the 1st group. The 2nd group will then start their three other sessions the first week back after half term due to Church Week in our final week. The letter will be sent home tonight detailing dates and clothing needed each week.

TTRockstars - We are loving the enthusiasm that the children are showing in their times table work. It may seem that the tables we have set are 'too easy' however the idea is to build up pace with the ones we know/are learning before we move on. We are still trying to navigate our way around the new layout for teachers so are working on things requested at the parents meeting. We'll keep you posted.

    Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Monday 30th September (Mrs Eva)

    Hi all,

Apologies for the late blog - technical difficulties on Friday but all good now!

Last week was another busy week in class three. English saw us continue our work on the Lorax, planning our letter writing from someone's point of view - a tricky thing to master at any age, however we worked really hard and had some great ideas ready to support us in writing the letters this week. In Maths, we have continued our work on addition and subtraction, refreshing ourselves with partitioning to help us add numbers together.

Science saw us learning about Roger Rock and Simon Soil ahead of our soil investigation this week. The children found it a really simple and fun way to learn about how rocks change.

For many of us Thursday was the highlight of the week as we took part in the European Day of Languages. We immersed ourselves in French for the day, having Madame Hodge (Benjamin's Grandma) in to teach us about France. We learnt lots of French words including greetings, numbers and colours and even French songs too, which we got to share with the rest of the school during assembly. The class were amazing and really did themselves proud - well done class three! :o) We designed our own French sandwiches too, thinking about what makes a great sandwich. We loved people's creativity - some being rather experimental with flavours shall we say!

Thank you to all those who have made a start on ttrockstars - over half the class have been on which is tremendous so thank you for your support at home. We had our first in-class celebration on Friday. We want to reassure you that the children are not just recognised for being the fastest or having the most points. In the same way, we also acknowledge those who simply have a go or those who are making week on week progress.

    Have a great week,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Thursday 19th September (Mrs Eva)

The end of another great week for your super troopers!

This week has seen us undertake some super mental addition and subtraction work in maths, working systematically and delving deep into finding challenging patterns too. In English, we have commenced work on our book for the half term - The Lorax - starting with looking at how we can make predictions about texts from imagery on front covers and the blurb on the back. We have also read the story and looked briefly at the rhyming patterns that Dr. Seuss uses within the text. Also linking with our topic, we have created leaflets on recycling as part of our work towards the All Saints’ key stage two 'trashion' show in November and in Discovery, we have started to think about how Hindu's celebrate Diwali.

Forest School was a rip-roaring success on Wednesday with the children helping to identify the trees on-site and starting to think about how important trees are for all sorts of reasons, building nests and imagining they were birds in our new game. Mrs. Eva was really impressed with the team-work the children showed. Miss Day made sure the other half of the class weren't missing out and in Science, they worked on lots of different investigations throughout the morning (all activities will be repeated for the groups when they swap!)

Thanks to all who attended the 'meet the teacher' meeting on Wednesday - it was great to have chance to say hi. For those who couldn't make it, the key messages were...

    1. Please encourage your child to read and record in their reading record - five times a week and they go into a class raffle. They need to have their reading record in school every day for us to mark off when they have read please.

    2. Times table rockstars - we have put passwords inside the cover of reading records. Please encourage your child to log on. We will be setting relevant times tables for the children to work on. This will all support towards the Year 4 newly introduced times table check which starts in all schools across the UK in 2020.

Enjoy your weekend and we'll see you next week!

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 13th September (Mrs Eva)

    Happy Friday everyone!

We have had an amazing first week back crammed with lots of exciting learning - your children have been an absolute credit to you in the way that they have tackled all sorts of challenging year three work. We have been most impressed with their resilience - everything that they have had worked on, they have done with a wonderfully lovely, smiley and never give up attitude.

In Maths, we have worked on place value in 3-digit numbers, applying our understanding to money too. We have also talked about the 'magic number' and it's super special job.

English has seen us working on persuading people to join us in either being for or against travelling the world and the reasons why we should or shouldn't. The class have been amazing in their ideas and have tried to use devices like rhetorical questions, exaggeration, repetition and lots more.

We have also started our work on rocks and fossils in Science and have continued working towards the grand finale of the paper mache globes by mixing colours and understanding primary and secondary colours.

Next Wednesday sees the start of our forest school sessions – half the class will receive a letter detailing ideal clothing and will head out from Wednesday 18th September to 9th October. The other half of the class will join the first group on 9th October and then have their 3 smaller sessions following this (further detail will follow).  Mrs. Eva literally cannot wait to get outdoors with everyone!

Don't forget our 'Meet the Teacher' meeting on Wednesday, held at 3.30pm and 6.00pm in the Year 3 classroom.

We hope that everyone has a great weekend - the weather looks fab for the Tour of Britain as it heads through Marple and Compstall on Saturday!

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 6th September (Mrs Eva)

Welcome to Class Three! We hope that you have all had a lovely Summer despite the rain!

Our blog this week will be short and sweet as we just want to let you know how your children have settled in this week. We have had an absolutely lovely time getting to know the class a little and have been so impressed by the way they have started life in KS2. They have been warm, friendly, inquisitive, enthusiastic, focussed and positive and we couldn't have asked for a better start. We cannot wait to watch them grow and progress througout the year.

We hope that you all have a super weekend and that your little ones all get a good rest ready for the 'proper' work to start next week. smiley

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Parry

  • Friday 26th July (Mrs Eva)

This week, our blog is simply a huge thank you... for your support, for trusting us, for your kind words and gifts and most importantly for your amazing children who have excelled themselves this year, all in their own special ways. We wish them and you a wonderful summer and a great time in class four. We will miss you all so very much!

Miss Day and Mrs. Eva xx

PS Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman say thank you for their gifts and are looking forward to being part of the next chapter! smiley

  • Monday 22nd July (Mrs Eva)

It's the end of the penultimate week in year 3.

We were really lucky this week and got to watch the year 6's amazing production of Romeo and Juliet. We really enjoyed it so much. Well done year six.

We also went to The Royal Northern College of Music. We played our brass instruments and sang with lots of other schools. We found out about other instruments and listened to them being played. What a spectacular it was!

As it is fifty years since the moon landing we had a debate about it. We looked at all the evidence and had a discussion about whether it was real or fake. After lots of listening to and sharing of our opinions we decided it really did happen. We enjoyed watching the original footage too.

    One week left!

    Have an amazing weekend.

    From class 3.

  • Friday 12th July (Mrs Eva)

    Yummy!

Chocolate galore this week. We made our chocolate truffles and a beatiful presentation box to put them in. We had so much fun making and decorating them. They were a little goey and sticky but tasted amazing.

We have been looking at newspaper features and writing our own headlines for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Wonka's Wonderful Winners and Glorious Gloden Tickets are just two of the wonderful headlines we came up with. We used alliteration and play on words to help us.

Telling the time has been our challenge this week. It is a little tricky but we are trying so hard. We have been working out how long activities have taken in minutes. We know there are five minutes between each number on a clock and sixty minutes in a hour.

We have been practising our singing and brass ready for next weeks visit to The Northen College of Music and sound wonderful.

We have a very busy week next week so lots of rest over the weekend.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sun.

    From class 3

  • Monday 8th July (Mrs Eva)

We have not stopped this week!

We have been busy measuring and converting cm to mm. We now know that there are 10 mm's are the same as 1 cm and 100 cm's are equal to 1m.

We edited our spooky stories to make them even better. We added exciting vpcabulary and checked all our spellings. We also looked at putting in adverbial phrases. Our stories are now so pokky and amazing. We can't wait to share them with you.

In French we are making information booklets about the Tour de France. We went on the internet to research all about this fabulous race and found out so incredible facts. Did you know that the tour is now 106 years old?

What a busy day we had on Friday! We all really enjoyed the picnic on the field and would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who were able to come. It was lovely to see families playing games together and enjoying the beautiful weather.

As soon as the picnic was over we were very lucky to have a circus skills workshop. We learnt how to juggle and balance feathers on our noses. It was amazing.

We hope you all enjoyed the summer fair and had a fabulous weekend.

    From class 3.

  • Friday 28th June (Mrs Eva)

Well we have had another amazing week with lots going on.

We have been interpreting data from tally charts, graphs and pictograms. It's incredible how much information we have been able to look at and we have asked and answered questions based on the data. We created our own bar charts from data on a tally chart and our friends answered our questions about them.

The whole class have been trying to scare our teachers by writing spooky stories. There have been gruesome ghouls, haunted houses and deep, dark forests galore. It has been very exciting.

We designed, made and evaluated wrappers for the chocolates we designed last week. Tin foil, tissue paper, coloured paper and much more filled the classroom that we could barely see one side of the classroom to the other! Sorry Mr. Chaloner.

This morning we practised the songs for our class trip to The Nothern College of Music. We could be heard singing all the way to Key stage 1! We sounded amazing. Our brass teacher was very impressed this afternoon when she heard us practising again.

We hope you have a lovely weekend in the sun.

    From Class 3

  • Tuesday 25th June (Miss Day)

In Maths we have learnt how to test if an angle of a shape is acute (less than 90 degrees), obtuse (more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees) or a right angle (exactly 90 degrees).

We all used our imagination in English to write a description of the chocolate room in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Yummy! Thinking of rivers of hot, bubbling chocolate and strawberry grass laces made our extended writing incredible this week. We all felt quite hungry writing it as well!

In French we have been looking at masculine and feminine nouns like une pomme and un cornichon. A little bit confusing but our resilience keeps us going.

We were very lucky to see the cup Stockport County won when they brought it into school to show us. It is huge! Well done County. We are all very proud of you.

    from Millie and Eddie

  • Friday 14th June (Mrs Eva)

    Friday 14 June 2019

This week we have been doing equivalent fractions in maths. We now know that we need to times the numerator and the denominator by the same amount to get the right answer. Eg; 2/3 = 4/6    1/2 = 2/4

In English we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and we wrote a summary (using interesting vocabulary) about the book so far.

The hilight of the week was: PIZZA EXPRESS! We all had an amazing time and learnt about some of the ingredients that go into pizzas. Today we wrote instructions about how to make Margherita pizza.

In French we leanrnt numbers 11-20. onze, douze, trieze, quatorze, quinze, seize, dix-sept, dix-huit, dix-neuf, vingt

    Have a lovely weekend!

    From Lilian and Zac

The children are bringing home a letter tonight about an amazing opportunity for class three. We have been invited to take part in The Music Spectacular and families are also invited to attend. Please read the letter for details about tickets etc. It is first come first served.

  • Friday 24th May (Mrs Eva)

Well what a great week we have had! We are so lucky to have Mrs. Preece who has worked tirelessly to organise a jam-packed active week! Over the course of the week, we have had opportunity to take part in archery, football, scooting, rugby, forest school, sports festivals (some of us running them as well as taking part in them - well done to all our sports ambassadors), dance and tennis. As well, we have worked on poems to enter into a sporting competition and looked at eating a healthy and balanced diet.

We just had to continue our Science eventhough it has been active week, especially after the mystery of the missing plants was solved! The results of our plant investigations are looking interesting. We are now starting to consider the conclusions that we might be able to draw. Some great ideas and conversations are already being had!

After the holidays, we are handing over the reins of blog writing to the children, ready for their move to class four (literally cannot believe that we are saying that!) We will also be encouraging the children to start taking responsibility for bringing things into school (P.E. Kits, instruments, reading books/records etc).

We cannot thank you all enough for your support over the past half term. We have a class of fully established key stage two children now, ready for the next stage of their learning journey. Their attitudes, their focus and in turn their learning has taken mammoth leaps over the last month or so and we know that we say the same things every week, but we genuinely are so proud of our class and all of their individual achievements.

As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we really appreciate when people raise 'niggles' and are open with us. It makes our working relationship and our ability to do the very best for your children so much easier. We hope that this continues over the last few weeks of our time together.

Whether home or away, we hope that you have a great holiday with your families and friends. Have fun, keep safe and we'll look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 10th June.

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 17th May (Mrs Eva)

A well deserved rest is in order this weekend after the children having undertaken what has felt like a gagillion challenges in SPaG, spelling, reading and maths. It has been brilliant to see what resilience and perseverence they have shown in every challenge and the scores that we have seen have shown some super progress in class 3 - well done you amazing little bunch! smiley

As well as completeing all of this, we have enjoyed writing our own poetry based on Kit Wright's poem 'The Magic Box', ours being named 'The Magic Lunchbox'. We have used lots clever things including alliteration, similies, methaphors and some of even used personification (yes we really are only in year 3)! The results have been lovely and the class have enjoyed taking lots of care in writing a final draft into their topic books and performing them aloud too.

In topic, we have planned and designed patterns for printing and then printed them using fruit and vegetables - some great pieces of art work to share when the books come home at the end of the year.

Science has seen us measuring and observing our plants and then comparing them with last week. Although there has been a slight mishap (thanks Penny for the missing plant poster, now displayed in the key stage two corridor) we hope to fix this for next week when we will be measuring and comparing again ready to answer our original question. A really super first independently planned Science investigation gang, well done!

Despite only having had our first proper brass session today, we have already started to really grasp one of our tunes to be performed at The Royal Northern College of Music in July. We are so lucky to have been given this opportunity and Class 3 are literally buzzing about it.

Shout out goes to... EVERYONE! You are all brilliant, you have all grown up so much this year and we are so immensely proud of you.

Next week sees us taking part in Active Week so we will be in sports wear all week. On Wednesday, there will be a short forest school type session, so a change of footwear and waterproofs would be good if the weather has been or is wet. Sports Day takes place on Thursday - all the children have been told their team and you should have received a ping about this too. If in any doubt, please ask.

Have a lovely weekend and we'll see you next week for a fun-filled Active Week.

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 10th May (Mrs Eva)

Happy Friday! It goes without saying that Class 3 have had a busy, busy week. In Maths we have been working hard on a new method... column multiplication. It has been great to hear how many of you have been teaching your parents this new nugget! smiley English has seen us preparing to write our own diary entries as Charlie Bucket. Having worked through this step by step, the detail and language (off the scale sentence openers, adverbial phrases etc) that the children have included has been superb with many of them ready to go to Year 6 we reckon! wink

In topic, we have been using atlases and maps on the internet to help us locate places that our favourite food comes from. We are navigating our way around the globe quite nicely now - well done Class 3. At long last, the exiting bit is upon us in Science... we have designed and set up our own plant investigations and used lots of scientific vocab along the way. From plants in boxes in stock cupboards to plants being kept in the fridge, we cannot wait to observe and measure our results over the coming weeks. Discovery has seen us matching Hindu deities to some facts that we have learnt.

We hope that our Pizza Express trip letter has windled its way to you - all details are included in the letter. Please let us know if you have not received it and we will get one home asap.

Fabulous to have had children requesting tt rockstars passwords - little and often will work a treat!

We're shouting out to Hugh this week - Hugh you are always so eager, so enthusiastic, so hard working and willing to help others. We love your attitude to everything that you do - thank you for so brilliant. yes

    Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 3rd May (Mrs Eva)

Another week bites the dust! Wednesday saw ten of the class attend a fantastic session at Manchester City’s training ground. In true All Saints’ fashion everything was done with a smile on their faces and the very best effort. Well done to everyone who went along.

Last week we said that the children have really started to grow and this week has been further proof. The effort that each and every one of the class has put in to their learning has been amazing. From their revision of test techniques ready for assessment week to their super attempts at using a variety of sentence openers in our Marshmallows story, we have been blown away with the maturity that they have clearly developed.

A special shout out has to go to Abigail this week. Thursday was an amazing day for her. She really shone in class, showing amazing focus, resilience and being ready with an answer for everything. Abi, keep working this hard and always with that smile - you are brilliant! ??

As well as shining in English and Maths, the class have worked hard on their art work and learnt more about the Hindu belief Brahman.

Despite only three children achieving a Mathletics certificate last week (yikes!!) it has been reassuring to hear how many children have been working on their times tables. We know how precious time is at home so thank you for your support with this. It honestly will be a huge help.

Another long weekend lies ahead. Enjoy and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 26th April (Mrs Eva)

Welcome back to our last term in Year 3 - it is crazy to believe how fast the year has gone and how much everyone has grown up, especially over the last half term.

Our first week back has seen us start tackling non-chronological reports in English all about our own 'Mallodile' - we have written about the physical appearance of our creatures using some super duper vocab. Some of us have also really thought about our sentence openers too. We are looking forward to seeing the completed pieces of writing next week. In Maths, we have been revisiting money - adding and subtracting amounts and finding change. We are starting to see how we can use all the things we already know to help us and that actually working with money isn't that different!

In Science, our new topic is Plants. We have labelled parts of a plant by disecting them like real scientists. We have also thought about the role of various parts of plants and just how important plants actually are.

This term we are going to be working really hard to get ourselves ready for the jump to Year 4 - one of the things that you can do at home, is help your child with their times tables (we try and do 2 sessions a week in school as well). We cannot emphasise enough how much of a life skill it is - as adults we use them lots and they help with all sorts of other maths (fractions being a biggy and one which crops up loads in Year 6 SATs). The children must know their 2s, 5s, 10s, 3s, 4s and 8s by the end of the year both in and out of order and division facts e.g. 6 x 4 = 24 so 24 divided by 4 = 6.

Please keep reading and encourage your child to write in their reading record (or you) to ensure five reads a week and emtry in to the reading raffle.

Finally, shout out this week goes to Harry for awesome effort across the board. You have listened to and learned from all feedback. You're on top form Mister - keep up the hard work!

    Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 5th April (Mrs Eva)

Happy holidays... and what a way to end our Spring term. Class 3 did themselves proud in our Church service today with their take on the story of Easter. All of the ideas were theirs and even today, in front of a packed church, they showed how confident they have all become.

As well as rehearsals for church, the children have been busy with division in Maths and have written some lovely Easter poems. They have also worked really hard on their handwriting - we have been trying to encourage everyone to take lots of pride in their work, something we will continue to focus on next term.

We could not go without mentioning our fab trip to Blackpool on Wednesday - the children were brilliant and loved both their time in Madame Tussauds and the tower. It was lovely to see their faces as they watched the dancers in the ballroom and hear their screams of excitement during their 4d experience in the tower. We will post some pics for you after the hols.

Shout out goes to Millie H who has worked really hard on her poem and even harder on her handwriting - keep up the hard work Millie. smiley

Thanks for all your help at home this term with reading, spelling and Mathletics. It really does help.

Have a great holiday and we'll see you in a couple of weeks for our final term in Year 3.

  • Friday 29th March (Mrs Eva)

We're almost there... one more week to go!

This week has seen us become pretty great at division in Maths as well as working hard on our times tables. We have written a fab Egyptian diary entry and got lots of other people to read and assess it for us.

We have also been engrossed in topic and our Easter service for next week looks set to be... interesting shall we say. The children have begun to improvise and make it their own without any prompting. It takes lots of skill and confidence to have a go at this. We reckon it'll be hard to beat last year's absolute corker but being the super bunch they are, we know that Class 3 will try their hardest to make it the best ever!

Shout out goes to Kodie this week - he has made Mrs Eva's return to work a sheer delight with his performance this afternoon. Not laughed so hard in ages - thanks Kodie for being you and helping to make Class 3 such a special place to be smiley

    Just a few bits...

Trip on Wednesday - packed lunch required. We'll check the forecast nearer the time and advise of any specific things the children might need.

Y3 Ice Cream Party is now on Thursday afternoon as we are out on Wednesday.

Bake Off is next Friday - see earlier Ping for details.

Have a fab weekend, especially all of our wonderful mums and nanas - we hope that you have a great day on Sunday with your lovely families. Thank you for all that you do.

  • Friday 15th March (Mrs Eva)

    Our week in Class 3...

English - looking at the former children's laureate and incredible author/illustrator Anthony Browne, creating our own blurbs and book covers for Voices in the Park using his style of surreal artistry.

Maths - looking at lots of reasoning questions and figuring out the best way to tackle questions. We have also worked hard on our ice cream targets and basic Maths skills.

Science - with it being British Science Week, we have done lots of learning on our current theme; forces.

French - talking about animals and just being amazingly enthusiastic about learning a language - FAB!

Well done Class 3 - keep up the hard work.

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 8th March (Mrs Eva)

    Hello everyone,

Another week over - time is certainly whizzing by! Our highlight of this week has been World Book Day, where we dressed up as our favourite book characters. From Poppins to Potter, we certainly made lots of effort to look the part. Thanks to families for helping your child look great. It was also fabulous to see lots of the great books that your children are reading at home - don't forget to write in their reading records when they have read so that we can enter them for our class reading raffle after five times in a week.

This week has been quite English focussed generally, as we have been writing letters to our favourite significant people. As we found this quite challenging, it has taken a little longer than expected but the results are worth it - well done Class 3!

In Maths, we have been learning about measure, using cm and mm to measure and adding together amounts mentally. We have been really pleased with how well the children listened and responded to their Maths learning this week. smiley

In topic/Science, the children have done fact files about one of our favourite significant people, Sir David Attenborough. We have talked about the important role that he has played in educating people about our planet, climate change and its impact for the future.

Shout out this week goes to Kaiden who has tried so hard to work independently on his writing and Discovery, sounding words out and always doing it with a smile on his face. Kaiden we think you are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

    Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 1st March (Mrs Eva)

    Welcome back...

This week we have have had loads of fun discovering the details of Tutankhamen's tomb. Using our learning, we have written newspaper reports including some very deliberate word choices to create impact on our readers. We are pleased with the attitude that everyone has shown to their writing - well done Class 3. In Maths we have been learning about fractions (again!) - we seem to absolutely love it and always give 110% to our learning in this area. We are starting to improve our confidence with word problems too and are picking out key information more confidently.

Science has seen us wrap up our light and dark topic by completing some work on shadows, making hand puppets and testing various materials, whilst Discovery has challenged us hugely (Mrs Eva included!) as we have been looking at the Trinity and how various artists have symbolised the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the Baptism of Jesus.

Following this we drafted our own paintings using Daniel Bonnell's 1999 painting as inspiration but including our own symbols for the Trinity.

Image result for daniel bonnell baptism

The children responded terrifically to this lesson and the ideas in their own portrayals have been fabulous.

Shout out this week has to go to our star Mathematician - Evie you have been awesome and we are beyond proud of all of your efforts with fractions this week. You have it in the bag! Special mention to Abi as well for earning her gold Mathletics certificate - just brilliant Abi, well done! :o)

******SHAMELESS MATHLETICS PLUG - 1000 POINTS PER WEEK FOR HOMEWORK PLEASE (We can't be bottom again!)******

    Have a great weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Thursday 14th February (Mrs Eva)

    Happy half term everyone!

We are officially half way through Year 3 and what an amazing first half to the year we have had. We have so much great stuff to celebrate! This week has been an inspirational week as we have met 3 very special and significant people from the local community. Firstly, we were visited by one of Miss Day’s friends who was the first female firefighter in her area. There wasn’t even a girl’s toilet at the station when she started there!

Thursday saw us treated to a visit from Julie who is a midwife in Marple and who delivered some of the class or helped lots of our families both during pregnancies and afterwards. We were also treated to a crash course in first aid by Simon, a rapid response paramedic in hazardous areas. We have learnt so much from all of our visitors and practised lots of our speaking and listening skills. Thank you Sarah H for organising!

As it is our final swim this week, our shout out goes to you, our amazing parents, who have rallied round and organised our swimming support. To William, Millie, Martha L, Matilda, Evie and Ava’s mums and of course Ashley K (think that is everyone!) thank you for all of your help over the past half term. We really appreciate all of your help.

Have a great half term with your families.

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 8th February (Mrs Eva)

    Hi everyone,

We're sure that any blog that you read this week will tell you the same thing - we are very proud of how hard the children have worked during this term's assessment week. The children have completed a number of reading and maths challenges and have had a great go at all that they have been asked to do. We really can see how hard the children have been working, especially on their reading and spelling - keep it up Class 3!

As you all know, a little word was had in our ear before parents evening about Class 3's somewhat shameful Mathletics performance. We are delighted to report that we are no longer bringing up the rear. Last week saw Class 3 second in the Mathletics competition across school with over two thirds of the class gaining a certificate. This was shared with everyone in our weekly celebration assembly. We love the passion and determination that not only the children showed, but you as parents too - we cannot thank you enough for helping us off the bottom spot. Let's keep it up!

This weeks shout out has to go to our new big sister, Lily, partly because she's a new big sister but also because even with all of the amazing excitement going on at home, Lily has worked harder than ever.  Lily and family we are so delighted to hear about the safe arrival of baby Noah and know that Lily will be an absolutely awesome role model for her precious brother. Congratulations from all of us!

    Enjoy your weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 1st February (Mrs Eva)

    Hi everyone,

We hope that you managed to enjoy some time in the snow on Wednesday!

Despite us not being in on Wednesday, we have managed to cram in lots - we have started a new story in English; an Egyptian version on Cinderella and in maths we have worked hard on telling the time, recapping on some of our learning from last year to help us get ready for our next steps. We have got messy using clay to create our own cartouche and shown our planning skills ready for our short class collective worship on Monday (only to do for school, no parents this time sorry!)

We cannot thank you enough for all of the time your children have put into Mathletics this week - we are most definitely not bottom of the leader board any more! wink Please encourage your children to keep up their hard work - 1000 points a week is all they need to earn a certificate.

We hope that you have a great weekend - wrap up warm!

Miss Day, Mrs. Eva, Mrs. Daniel and Mrs. Chapman

  • Friday 25th January (Mrs Eva)

    Happy Friday everybody,

First of all, a big get well soon to all of our poorly children, of whom there have been many. We hope that you are back with us next week! Secondly, a huge thank you to all of you that made it to parents meetings this week - we have loved sharing with you just how brilliant we think your children are and how proud we are of their achievements so far this year.

    Main messages were...

    1. We simply cannot be the worst class for Mathletics any longer!! Please, please, please encourage your child to complete this as their homework weekly (1000+ points) Next week is a whole school Mathletics competition. It would be fab to see what we know is the best class in school way up the leader board!

    2. Times tables - so important and an area of learning you can really help with ready for the year four test, which will be introduced by the government next academic year.

    3. Reading - raffle takes place in class now every Friday meaning a higher chance of winning - again, please complete five reads a week as homework and sign in your child's reading record each time to be entered.

Our main feat this week has been completing our Lighthouse writing (which is pretty awesome to be honest!) We have created some pointillism art work to accompany it too. Maths has seen us really trying to master our missing number subtraction to ensure that we understand how to carry numbers over.

This weeks shout out has to go to Zac - just an amazing example to everyone in Class three. Always ready with a question, an answer, a smile - whatever is needed in any situation. Zac, we think you are a shining example to all of your friends - keep up the hard work.

    Have a great weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 11th January (Mrs Eva)

Yet another busy week in Class 3 - from learning how to use big, grown up column addition in Maths to writing perfect paragraphs and carrying out super science investigations, it has been non-stop! To top it all off, it was lovely to have some of you join us for the open afternoon on Wednesday. The children always love sharing their learning with you and sharing their new topic was especially exciting for them! We have some great art work to adorn our room!

Our big shout out this week goes to Penny, who has absolutely given it her all (must be something to do with turning 8 ??)! We are exceptionally proud of her incredible attitude to learning and the maturity and kindness that she shows to all her classmates - well done Penny! Also an extra shout out to Kaiden this week for being our star writer AND being beyond awesome at swimming - again, we could not be more proud of you!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 4th January (Mrs Eva)

Happy New Year! We hope that you have had a great Christmas break. Thank you so much for the lovely gifts that were sent for us - they definitely helped us to over-induldge during the festive period!

Despite having only been in for two days and having had so much catching up with our friends to do, we have still squeezed every second out of this week. What with our work on paragraphs to help us write about our Christmas, using estimation to help us solve maths questions and exciting feely bag fun in our new Science topic (light and dark), we have had a great week.

We are sending home spellings ready to be tested next Wednesday (9th January) - please work on these. There are some challenging rules that lie ahead so the children will need lots of help.

    A few other bits...

Swimming - starts again next Friday (11th January) and runs every Friday until our last session on Friday 15th February.

Homework - please ensure that you or your child is writing in their reading record each time that they read. It is difficult to know where they are up to when we hear them in school if their record isn't written in. Also, it helps them work towards the reading raffle (5 times a week earns you a ticket). For Mathletics,1000 points a week is the aim - huge shout out to Henry who is up there EVERY SINGLE WEEK - well done you!! yes

Have a lovely weekend - wrap up warm!

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 14th December (Mrs Eva)

It's Chriiiiiiiiistmas and Class 3 are excited beyond words!!

We have spent our week working on Christmassy things in all areas of the curriculum - writing Christmassy narratives, completing Christmassy maths and obviously, talking about the Christmas story in Discovery RE. We have also worked hard learning the songs for the whole school carol service which takes place at church on Tuesday evening at 6pm. The same service will then be repeated on Wednesday afternoon at 1.45pm at church again. We hope to see lots of you there to share in our Christmas celebration.

Over the holidays all that we ask is that you have a lovely time and a huge, well deserved rest ready for our return to school on Thursday 3rd January.

Merry Christmas to one and all and thank you for your continuous support.

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 7th December (Mrs Eva)

This week has seen us as staff reflect on our term and look forward to the next part of our Year 3 journey, having started to plan our new topic for after Christmas. We hope that your children will be as excited as we are about it!

We have so, so much to celebrate in Class 3 yet as ever, so much that we need to keep practising (the adults and the children!) Together, we have all had to become accustomed to a new year group - it can be a challenge, nerve-wracking, yet exciting to step outside what you are used to and we are very open with the children about what we are learning from all that we do as adults too. We make mistakes but acknowledge this and share how it helps us grow.

In English, we took full advantage of the weather on Tuesday and headed outdoors to help us create our wintery settings. Using a Descriptosaurus, we then also created a character for our setting. There was a really diverse mix of descriptions - some lovely and festive, others a little scary shall we say, but all which painted a clear picture for the reader.

We have been well impressed in Maths this week as our superstars have excelled themselves in their work on fractions. From counting in tenths, to understanding unit fractions (numerator of 1) and non-unit fractions (numerator not a one!) and then fractions of amounts in our 'would you rather?' game, your children have shown real resilience and we are delighted with how hard they have tried.

In Science, our rocks and fossils topic came to climax with an investigation on soil permeability - the children have loved getting stuck into our investigations and are starting to remember some great scientific vocab. Shout out this week to Martha S for being A-M-A-Z-ING during our science - your enthusiasm has shone through in abundance - well done you!! smiley

Next week, will see us starting more Christmassy work all with lots of hidden learning going on! We can't wait!

FYI: Friday 14th is school Christmas lunch and ks2 party afternoon so there will be no swimming.

    Have a great weekend!

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 30th November (Mrs Eva)

It's Friday and we're starting to feel festive! The tree is up, the Christmas songs are on repeat and the decorations are made. A huge thank you to those of you who managed to share in a lovely morning to kick-start the festivities. It has been a fabulous end to an out of the ordinary week as we have had our first key stage two assessments consisting of maths, reading, spelling and grammar. All of us have been absolutely wowed by your child's attitude and resilience, showing just how much we are growing! Well done to everybody! Today has also seen our first swimming session. We we super impressed with how everybody had a go in the All Saints' Way - awesome!

In English we have finished our writing from Taking Flight - our final edited piece showed some exceptional handwriting and just how much pride we can take in what we do. Well done everybody again!

In Maths, we have worked on 3D shapes in preparation for our open morning, looking at the properties - faces, edges and vertices. Our Science work has now moved onto soils and we have created some fun storyboards about Roger Rock and how he becomes Simon Soil. Absolutely brilliant!

After this week, we really have seen how much the children are progressing and we are genuinely so, so proud of their achievements - thank you all for your amazing support at home. We have had 20 children put forward for the reading raffle this week (usually no more than 7 or 8!!) and we can see that those who attend homework club are working hard on Mathletics to try and get their certificates - keep up the hard work. It clearly is paying off!

    Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 23rd November (Mrs Eva)

    Hi everyone,

We would like to start by saying thanks to everyone who managed to make it our class assembly. We loved sharing the children's learning and were genuinely proud of all the terrific ideas that they had to share. As well as preparing for this, we have also been busy in maths learning about multiplication and division, and how they are the inverse of each other. We have also worked on our 4 times table and spotting patterns to help us with our 8 times table.

In English, we have worked hard on a short piece of writing with Miss Day about flying and have also been describing lots of the yucky things that the centipede described eating in James and the Giant Peach, having to find synonyms and levelling them in terms of powerfulness. We will use these words to help us with our writing too. We have worked hard to learn about fossils in Science this week as well.

Well done to our super readers - Mrs Walker who comes in to read with some of the children on a Wednesday told us how impressed she is with the children's reading and how hard they are trying this year. She worked with us in Year 2 and has noticed a really positive attitude towards reading amongst the children which was lovely to hear - well done Year 3!!

Have a wonderful weekend - hard to believe that December will be on our doorstep this time next week!

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 16th November (Mrs Eva)

    Hi everyone,

Yet another great week, jam-packed with lots of exciting things. On Monday, we took a walk into Marple to pay our respects to and learn more about our local war heroes in preparation for our class assembly - we had a fascinating time! Maths has seen us working hard on angles, especially right angles, and finding them in shapes as well as making turns ourselves and guiding others. In English, we have written some great poems which we look forward to sharing them with you next week.

Can we please remind people that while we do not ask for written evidence of homework, the children do still need to be reading, working on Mathletics and practising their spellings. We will put some ideas for spelling games up on the Class page (as soon as Mrs. Eva learns how! wink)

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all for Class 3 and 4's assembly on Wednesday.

  • Friday 9th November (Mrs Eva)

    Happy Friday!

What a whirlwind of a week - what with Bonfire Night, War Veterans, Cinema trips and Dentist workshops, we has been so busy! Our week started with Bonfire Night times table and art work and the completion of our James and the Giant Peach stories - we wowed Miss Day with our beautiful handwriting and presentation. Special mention has to go to Harvey for his amazing effort and superb joins - serious WOW!!! Thursday saw our trip to Didsbury to watch The Greatest Showman and as a result we have written some fantastic film reviews and been very forthcoming with our views on the film! In Maths, we have moved onto shape, using lots of technical words to describe properites of 3D shapes. We have also made and labelled our own globes in our topic work, thinking about hemispheres and polar regions.

Most importantly, we could not go by without learning about The Great War in this landmark year. The children have been utterly captivated by this mini topic and were privileged to meet veterans of the second world war on Wednesday. The soldiers told us their tales of the war and took the time to shake all of the childrens hands - a true honour for each and every one of us! We will be wearing our poppies with pride this weekend and taking some time to remember those soldiers who have lost their lives as well as those who sadly continue to be involved in conflict today.

We hope you all find some time to relax this weekend - look forward to seeing you all on Monday for our memorial walk (nothing needed - don't panic!)

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 2nd November (Mrs Eva)

Welcome back everyone - it sounds like there has been lots of fun goings on over the holiday.

This week has been another busy week - Maths has seen us working hard on subtracting tens from 3-digit numbers using a numberline and crossing boundaries. We're doing pretty well! In English, Miss Day has worked hard on planning a James and the Giant Peach based story, while Mrs Eva has been looking at lots of grammar linked to Remembrance Day. We have practised war time songs, created some super pieces of art work and learnt about the differences between life 100 years ago and today.

Homework: Mathletics, Reading (five comments in reading record for a raffle ticket!) and spellings please. We are working on homophones - words that sound the same but look different. (Great work on this in class!! smiley ) It is Week

Have a lovely weekend enjoying bonfires and fireworks and we'll see you next week!

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

(PS Our Year 3 and 4 assembly is on Wednesday 21st November at 9am - it would be great to see lots of you there!)

  • Friday 19th October (Mrs Eva)

WOW... If there has ever been a time to confirm just how lucky we all are to be part of the All Saints' community, it is this week!

Every year, Church Week just gets better and better and the number or volunteers who want to share in the amazing experience with us grows and grows. It is fair to say that Church Week 2018 has been an epic success and the children have thrown themselves fully into learning about the Land, Sea and Sky in Church. We are so very proud of how they have listened (to each other and their group leaders) and supported each other throughout the week. From recycling to remembering the fallen from 100 years ago and foraging to fossils, we have had the most marvellous week with lots of memories to treasure we're sure! A special thanks goes to our newest ethos group members from Year 3 - Abi, Eddie, Isaac M and Lucy - who have all played a vital role in running and teaching in the ethos group story tent. We are also very grateful to Mrs Holton for all her amazingly hard work organising the event over the past few months - we are so lucky to have her!

Aside from our time at church, we have spent time rehearsing for the Harvest service and have also been working hard on our tricky spelling rule to be tested 31.10.2018 - Week 4.

We really believe that holidays are an important chance to spend time together as a family, so please enjoy a well-deserved rest and come back ready for the run up to (dare we say it...) Christmas!! However should you wish to work, reading and Mathletics as normal is always an option!

Thanks as ever for all of your support over the past half term - we look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday 30th October.

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 12th October (Mrs Eva)

    Evening everyone!

Another Friday comes and goes - where has the past half term gone?! We cannot believe there is only one week to go before our half term break. We could not be more delighted with how much the class have grown into their role as key stage two children - we are exceptionally proud of how hard they are trying and listening (despite Mrs Eva and Mrs Daniel's very husky voices!)

This week we have been busy continuing to add and subtract in 1s, 10s and 100s. We have been crossing ten and hundred boundaries too which can be tricky for adults to do in our heads, let alone our superstar 7 and 8 years olds - well done Class 3! Our English work is top secret - if you want to find out what we have been up to, please come to our Harvest service next Friday at All Saints' Church. It starts at 1.45pm. Anyone who would like to walk up with us, your help would be greatly appreciated. We will leave at about 1.15pm. Please let the office know if you are able to help.

Our topic work has seen us look at monuments and places of interest as well as looking at extreme weather, linking to our recent windy weather. We have discussed hurricanes and the impact that they can have, also thinking about the people in America and their current situation. Our wonderful artists have created 'eye of the storm' art work from their learning.

Homework - Please, please, please encourage your children to be reading. They need 5 comments in their reading record between Wednesday and Wednesday in order to be put forward for a raffle ticket. We are making every effort to hear the children read every fortnight in school and have asked them not to forget to comment whatever they read too. Don't forget, Mathletics is also their to provide opportunity to hone Maths skills - 1000 points a week earns your child a certficate. Spelling scores have been absolutely cracking this week - keep up the hard work everyone - you are brilliant! smiley

We hope that everyone has a lovely weekend - keep safe and we'll see you next week for a fun packed church week!

Miss Day, Mrs Eva, Mrs Daniel and Mrs Chapman

  • Friday 5th October (Mrs Eva)

    Hello all!

This week has seen us entering the world of the 'little green things' in our class novel, with us writing instructions on how to make them. We have had to be super bossy, using imperative verbs to tell people what to do. There have been some interesting ideas to say the least!

In Maths, we have continued practising our 4 times tables (please keep going at home as well!!) and have been adding 3-digit numbers to ones and tens in our heads. We have also faced money challenges adding three small numbers and ordering them, using Mrs Eva's favourite term, systematically!!

In other areas of our learning, we have been looking at human and physical features in Geography, focussing specifically on Europe. We have also been creating storyboards of Rama and Sita and thinking about the significance of lights during the festival of Diwali.

Homework: First off, apologies for lack of TimesTable Rockstar passwords - we are working on it, promise! Well done to all those children who have read and recorded in their reading records this week - you and your families are amazing for getting on board with our new system, thank you. We know how busy you are all and are extremely appreciative of all your support. The children have been really positive about their new reading records and it has been wonderful to see so many in school. Please keep practising spellings too - the list until Christmas went out last week - we are on the 'a' sound spelt 'ey' due to be tested on Wednesday 10th.

Have a great weekend and we'll see you next week.

    Miss Day and Mrs Eva

  • Friday 28th September (Mrs Eva)

    Happy Friday everyone!

Firstly, many thanks to all who attended the parents meetings on Wednesday. We appreciate you taking the time to come and find out about your childs forthcoming year. We will be sending home packs to those who didn't manage to make the meetings. If, upon reading through the bits, you are unclear on anything, please just ask.

Christmas in September?! Sounds crazy but is absolutely true! We have created our Christmas cards today - these will be available for you to purchase later in the term. We hope that you like the results. smiley

In Maths, we have continued to work hard on our place value and are becoming well practised at partitioning three-digit numbers and comparing them too. We have written lots as well, including final drafts of our character descriptions and diary entries by James in our class novel.

We have been impressed with how hard the children have taken to their new times tables and how eager they have been this week to improve their handwriting and presentation - keep it up Class 3!

    Have a great weekend!

    Miss Day and Mrs Eva

(PS. Apologies for not being on top of the blog over the past couple of weeks - Mrs Eva's fault!)

  • Friday 14th September - Welcome back! (Mrs Eva)

Welcome to key stage two! We are delighted to be sharing the next stage of your child's learning journey with you. smiley

We hope that you have all had an enjoyable break - your big grown up KS2 children certainly seem refreshed and raring to go! We have had a busy, busy, busy first week and a bit back what with figuring out the All Saints' Way and what it means to us, checking how much maths we have remembered over the summer (Mrs. Eva was super impressed!), creating outdoor art work, writing why we think our planet is so special, learning big science words to describe rocks, taking a 10k hike in the sunshine, using compass points to describe our trip and finally, writing a comic strip of our day out, it has been full on but we're sure you'll agree, diverse and fun for everyone.

One of the most important things that we have also had to do is establish our class rules. This is important so that we all know our boundaries and are clear on each others expectations (children and adults alike!) Each group felt that it was important to listen and show respect to each other. We have discussed how this means not talking when others are and being fair to one another by listening to each others ideas and responding appropriately. Other rules we have set are showing good manners, being kind and looking after our classroom and belongings.

Homework and spelling will not be sent out until we have had our 'New to Year Group' meeting on 26th September. At this time you will be issued with a new reading record. In the meantime, it is really important that you continue to hear your child read regularly at home and that they are read to as well.

    Have a fun weekend!

  • Friday 6th July (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi All,

I am very proud of Class 3 and their transition morning in Class 4. They said that they had a fantastic morning with Miss Taylor, Miss Daly and Miss Wilson creating beautiful hot air baloons that have been placed on display in their new classroom ready for next year. They were all very mature and they are more than ready for Year 4. They have grown up so much over this past year and it has been an absolute pleasure to have them as my very first class - I will miss them all and you very much next year.  Thank you for all being so supportive of me and your children this year and allowing me the fantastic opportunity of working with all of your special children. They will always have a special place in my heart!

Today, we were extremley lucky as we had the opportunity to work with the poet Craig Bradley. It was lots of fun making up brilliant rhymes and singing songs. We also had brass last lesson. It is absolutley amazing to see all of the children  giving it 110% and it is evident that they have been practising hard at home - Well done.

The children have made some delicious cupcakes in D and T this week. This is a part of our journey of learning all about seasonal foods. We have learnt all about the process of how the flour is harvested and created for us to put into our cupcakes. They really are yummy - I am not a baker, so the credit is down to them and the amazing 3 year 6 children that helped us out.

Unfortunatley, I am unable to attend the school fair this evening. But, I hope that you all have a wonderful time and enjoy yourself.

  • Friday 29th June (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

What a fabulous week we have had in Year 3. The theme for this week was all things Sunflower. The children wrote a fantastic short story independantly all about a giant Sunflower growing. It took them to all sorts of places. Edward went on a trip to Russia to the world cup!

As well as writing about Sunflowers, we have also been watching them grow in our very own experiment. Last week, the children planted a Sunflower. They chose whether their Sunflower would have no light, no water or no heat. This week, they saw what had happened to their growing Sunflower... or if it had even grown at all! It was a bit of a mixed bag with some Sunflowers bending around looking for the light and others that had no water still growing! The children will carry on with this journey for the rest of the half term. So, on the last day of school they may be bringing home their very own Sunflower.

What gorgeous weather we have been having. It is hot, hot, hot! Please make sure that your child has plenty of suncream on and they are bringing a bottle of water to school to help keep them hydrated.

I hope that you all have a fabulous weekend.

    Miss Houghton

  • Friday 15th June (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

A big welcome back to my wonderful Year 3 children. I hope that you have all had a lovely half-term break full of fun, sunshine and laughter. I am both excited and sad to be embarking on my last half-term with your spectacular children.

This week, we have hit the ground running and got stuck straight back in. The children have been continuing on their learning journey about time. However, after 5 weeks of working on the concept, the chldren are still finding it extremley difficult. After next week, we are going to have to move on to ensure that the children access all areas of the Year 3 Maths National Curriculum before the end of the school year. Parents and carers, this is where I need your help...

This weekend the children have been sent home with some time problems. They tried their hardest on this activity this week, but they found it very hard. Please can I ask that instead of doing anything on the homework grid, they complete the 2 pieces of homework on time. To calculate the answers they need to use a number line - they know how they need to solve it but they may need a helping hand. For many of the children, time is just not something that they can fully grasp and it is super important that we all do as much as we can to help them progress in this area. Your support and help in this would be greatly appreciated. Please frequently ask them what time it is to get them thinking about time all the time and to get as much practise as they can.

The children are working towards the ice-cream party at the end of the year. They are practising their ice-cream spellings in school and it would be brilliant if the could also practise them at home. These spellings are seperate from their weekly spellings that they have a test on on a Wednesday.

In other news, the children scored the highest they have ever scored this week and I am over the moon. A huge congratulations to Oliver who improved by a massive 6 points - WOW! I hope that all the children keep up the good work.

Today we started our new PSHE topic - changing me. The children will be learning all about the changes in our bodies. If you have any questions, then please do not hesitate to come and see me. This class in an extremely inquistive class and they ask lots of interesting questions. If there is ever any questions that your child asks and I feel that it would be more appropraite for you to answer them, I will send a little note home with the question on - please let me know if there are any problems with this.

Our new topic is Green Fingers and the children have already started learning about the seasonal food that Britain produces. We will be doing lots of baking this half-term as part of this in line with the Design and Technology objetives. If your child has any allergies that the school is not aware of then please let the school know.

Next week, the class team will be listening to every child read to check for their book bands. Please can you ensure that your child brings in their reading books and records.

Thank you all for your continued support.

    The Year 3 team.

  • Friday 25th May (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

Year 3 have had a fantastic week. How lucky have we been to have our active week during such amazing weather. The children have been involved in lots of activities such as rounders, dancing, football, orienteering and much more. The children have been extremeley enthusiastic about this week and have got stuck in with every activity. It has been a real joy to watch them work together as a team and have big beaming smiles on their face.

Although there is no set homework for half-term it would be fantastic if you would have a look at time with them. They have been struggling with telling the time after half past. This would really help them thrive in the last part of the year.

What a half-term it has been. The children have worked incredibly hard and they deserve a fantastic break.

Wherever in the world you are going, or the places that you are visiting I hope that you all have a brilliant week. I am excited to be embarking on the final half term with your wonderfu children.

    Happy Holiday's.

    Miss Houghton

  • Friday 4th May (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

This week in Year 3 we have stepped into the shoes of an Ancient Sumarian. Ancient Sumer is one of the most important times in History. They created lots of things that we use today. Did you know that they created the wheel? They made a wheel to make pottery and to help make things. They didn't use it for transport. They also created maths and writing amongst many other things. So, we are really lucky today because of alot of the work that the Ancient Sumarians did.

We pretended that we were an Ancient Sumarian and that we had created one of their incredible inventions. Some of designed a poster showing off our incredible invention. Some of us wrote a speech about our invention that we delivered to the whole class. It was really exciting.

This week we also wrote an adventure story and Miss Houghton was really impressed with all the hard work that we put in. It was fabulous to meet Amelia's Kittens on Wednesday afternoon. They were so cute. They kept trying to escape from the circle that we made in the centre of the room.

In Maths we continued working on fractions. We moved onto adding fractions. Some of us found this hard because we didn't know our times tables. It is really important that we take our time to learn our timestables.

We hope that you have a fantastic bank holiday weekend and do lots of special things.

    Class 3

  • Friday 27th April (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Dear All,

We have had a very exciting week learning all about the Russian Fairytale 'Kolobok'. We wrote some fantastic sentences using adverbs about the animals in the story. We pretended that we were one of those animals and wrote an amazing diary entry all about our hungry tummy's wanting to eat the Kolobok. Jacob thinks that the diary entry was the most fantastic thing ever. Most of us wrote ATLEAST a page or so.

This week in Maths we have been learning all about equivalent fractions. Lots of us found this very tricky. This is because we don't know our timestables. So, it is important that we work really hard on our times and division facts so that we find Maths easier.

We have been learning all about the lines of longitude and latitude in the world. We saw a very funny picture of Miss Houghton with crazy hair standing on either side of the Equator in Africa.

    Have a great weekend.

    Year 3

  • Thursday 29th March (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Dear All,

I hope that you enjoyed our Easter Assembly today. I was very impressed with how quickly the children learnt their lines and the amazing tomb that they made.

This week, they have done some fantastic writing based on the Easter Story and it was amazing to see the progress they have made since the beginning of this year.

Over the holidays, the children have not been set any homework. However, I would like them to really focus on learning their timestables. Without this knowledge they will struggle next half term and i really want them to thrive in this last term in Year 3.

They need to be fluent in their 2,3,4 and 8 times tables. Timestable Rock Stars is a brilliant tool for the children to use to learn their timestables in a fun way. Lots of the children have been showing me their Avator and they are super cool.

A friendly reminder - if you are not picking your child up or another parent is taking your child home please let me know. I will be unable to release your child from school without this information as their safety is extremely important.

Also I wanted to make you aware that I have heard that  there are some frightening videos on youtube. These videos can often be misleading as they may have minions or a disney charachter in them or as their title screen.  I have had a chat with the children about informing an adult if they see something that upsets them and switching the film/clip off immediatley. I will continue to do so in school.

I hope that you all have a fantastic easter holiday and eat lots of yummy chocolate.

I am excited to be embarking in the last term of school with such a lovely class.

    Many Thanks

    Miss Houghton

  • Friday 23rd March (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

On Wednesday morning we were amazed to discover that on Tuesday night a dragon had landed on the playground of All Saints. We became investigators and reporters for the All Saints' Times to warn the public of the terrifying event.

There was quite a scene outside, hazard tape protected the large foot prints and scorch marks that the dragon had left on the school playground. With our microphones and the camera rolling we reported this event on the screen. Following that, we put pen to paper and wrote a newspaper report. We are not sure if the dragon will return. She has laid an egg and we think she may return to collect it.

Those is nearby Mellor, do be careful as we think she is nesting in the area.

On Thursday afternoon, we learnt all about the properties of rocks and looked at them to see if they had fossils, grains or crystals. It was super fun.

In Maths, we started learning all about fractions. We thought this was really fun.

We hope you have a loevely weekend.

From Ava, Katie, Lilly and Tyler.

Thank you so much for last week and I am sorry that I was not in due to sickness. Just tp catch you up we are on Week 3 of spellings next week.

On Wednesday of next week we will be going to All Saints Church to have an Easter experience. We will be leaving school at 9:15 and returning at 10:30. If anyone is avaliable to help that would be fantastic. Please could you let me know.

On Thursday we will be having our Easter Service in the morning, if anyone could help walk there and back please let me know.

    Have a lovely weekend.

Hello Parents and Children of Year 3,

I hope that you have had a fantastic day playing in the snow or staying warm with your family. Make sure you stay nice and warm in this cold weather.

I have uploaded a few things for you to do tomorrow and this weekend, if you are looking for something to do, as I haven't been able to give you your homework books this week.

I have put up the homework grid for our topic Amazing Artists. I know that you were all excited about writing your non-fiction text on LS Lowry as you all worked super hard researching him. But, don't worry we will write it next week. I was so proud of how hard you all worked on that this week. Make sure you tell your grown-ups all about what you have learnt.

I know that some of you like to pick up a challenge sheet so I have also uploaded them. You can choose a reading comprehension about looking after a bearded dragon. If you really want to challenge yourself make sure that you pick questions that will do this. On the sheets you will see a different amount of stars:

    1 star = challenging.

2 stars = a little bit more challenging.

    3 stars = very challenging.

I'd love it that if you chose to do the reading comprehension that you had a go at either the 2 stars or the 3 stars. Those who do will get a merit when we are back in school on Monday.

Now, if you don't want to do a reading comprehension then there is a maths test for you to have a go at. Make sure you take your time with your answers and check them. Again, if you have a really good go at it you will get a merit when you come into school on Monday.

You will also see on our class page that I have uploaded your spellings to learn for next Wednesday. I have also put the ice cream challenge for you to practice those spellings if you would like too aswell.

Grown- ups I have also uploaded the Spring 2 Newsletter so you can see what we are learning about this half term. The children have already created fantastic sketches based on the matchstick men and buildings in LS Lowry's paintings. The shading that they did was incredible and I just had to show it off. So, there is now a large collage in our classroom with all their fantastic work. Please feel free to have a look when you are dropping off or picking up your child from the Year 3 classroom door.

I hope that you all have a fantastic day tomorrow and this weekend.

    Stay safe and warm.

Can't wait to hear all about your fun in the snow on Monday.

Miss Houghton, Mrs Burney, Mrs Hammond and Mrs Clayton.

  • Friday 16th February (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

We have had a fantastic week this week by finishing off our topic Amazing America by writing a animal creation myth. These myths tell us why an animal is a certain way eg. Why a leopard has spots. Each tale has a moral behind the story and we have enjoyed learning all about them and listening to some Native American myths.

In Maths we worked really hard on adding and subtracting money and calculating change. We loved visiting Miss Houghton’s shop. She had a silly accent.

Today we had our last session at swimming and it was so much fun. All the floats were out and we were playing with our friends and having a ball.

We hope that everyone has a fantastic half-term break.

    Class Three

  • Friday 9th February (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

This week has been a fantastic week. We learnt all about the Native American Tribe The Pueblo Tribe. Miss Houghton's friend is from the tribe. As a treat, he sent a video to us telling us all about his tribe, their culture and their customs. The most interesting thing that we found out is that the tribe have a secret dance that nobody else can ever see. It is a total secret.

The pueblo tribe are most famous for their fantastic pottery art. They used geometric shapes to create the patterns that went onto the pottery. We designed our own pattern for a vase using this same idea. We had such a lovely time doing it and we are really proud of the art that we have created.

We worked really hard on subtracting and adding money. We did find this hard. So, we are going to do some more work on it next week.

As a treat next week we will be going swimming on Friday for an hour for a fun swim. So please send us in with our swimming kits.

Unfortunatley we have had some problems with the printer this week. This has meant that not everything that was needed to be sent home for homework has been sent. We will send the homework books on Monday. Sorry for any inconveience caused.

However, if you would like us to do some work please see the Native American homework grid on our page and complete your chosen activity on paper. This can be stuck into homework books.

We hope you have a fantastic weekend.

    Class 3

  • Friday 2nd February (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

We have had a wonderful time in Year 3 this week. We have been learning lots more about the Native American Tribe the Tlingit Tribe. We researched our own amazing facts about the Tlingit Tribe to write our own non-fiction text. We hope you enjoyed reading it on parents evening. Incase you didn't here are some intresting facts that we have researched:

*The Tlingit Trible placed Totem poles of their chosen Spirit animal outside their living spaces.

*The Tlingit tribe lived near the Pacific Ocean and ate the fish that came from it to stay healthy.

*The nearest Country to Tlingit Tribe is Canada.

*They put red paint on their horses faces when they went out to war.

In Maths this week we have been learning all about scaling. We worked really hard and enjoyed it. Next week we will be begin our journey of learning all about adding and subtracting money.

We are super excited for our trip to Stoller Hall this afternoon. Make sue you ask us all about it because we are certain that we will have a fantastic time.

    Class Three.

I'd like to start by saying a HUGE well done to the Year 3 children for thier super behaviour at Chester Zoo last Friday. I hope that they enjoyed themselves as much as I did. I was so incredibly proud of them and how far they have come since the beginning of the year.

Every child has been working extremely hard and I couldn't ask for more. Their writing and maths skills are improving every day and there has been a massive improvement in handwriting. I personally would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that work so hard at home with your precious children. It really does make the difference in school. I hope that when you attend parents evening, you can have a look at their books and see how brilliant they are and the effect all your dedication has on your child's progress and work. They are such a delightful class to teach and I could burst with pride. So, I hope you do too.

If you haven't arranged to come on either Monday 29th January or Thursday 1st of February please can I urge you to do so. If you can't make it on either of those dates, please send a note in with your little one to arrange a convienient time. I am so excited to chat to you all properly about your amazing child.

Thank you again for all your help.

As always, please grab me in the playground or call up the school if you need to have a chat or we can arrange a suitable time to meet, have a cup of tea and chat.

    Miss Houghton

We have been super busy this week getting ready for our amazing assembly all about the Native Americans next Friday the 25th January at 9am. Please make sure you come and see us.

We have been learning all about the importance of the buffalo to Native Americans. Did you know that only some Native American tribes lived in Teepee's? Those that did were called Nodamic Native Americans. That means that they travelled around after the buffalo. All parts of the buffalo were used to make things like plates, bowls and plates.

On the theme of the buffalo we wrote a story this week about a buffalo that disappears through some mysterious circles in the woods. It was so much fun. We used our imaginations to think about where the buffalo went.

In Maths, we are learning to multiply 2 digits by 1 digit. It is very tricky. But, we are working really hard and using lots of visual resources to help us work it out.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Class 3

  • Friday 12th January (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

This week has been a very busy week in Year 3. On Monday we started our new topic Native America. We learnt all about the explorer Christopher Columbus. Did you know that he thought he had discovered America but actually the vikings found it hundreds of years before?

When Christopher and his crew were on their journey home they encountered a very big storm. They thought they wouldn’t make it home alive. We pretended that we were Christopher Columbus on this terrifying journey in English. We wrote a diary as if we too were caught in the storm. We are really proud of our writing.

We also designed a poster advertising the ‘New World’ to encourage people to come and visit.

Today we visited Chester zoo. It was amazing. We saw lots of amazing animals including baby elephants and rhinos. Bella saw her favourite animal the Ardvark and Ethan was excited to see the Meerkats. We also saw some Buffalos which was really cool because they are super important to the Natove Americans.

As we were out today, homework will be sent home on Monday and the children will be tested on their spellings on Friday instead.

We hope you have a fab weekend.

    Year 3

  • Friday 15th December (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

This week in Maths we have had some fun using our 3,4 and 8 times tables. We calculated how many ingrediants we needed for each person to make yummy biscuit houses. The classroom was a mess, but we had a fantastic time.

We started the week by doing some drama where we created our very own monster adventure based on Moz the Monster from the John Lewis advert. We then story boarded our adventure which helped us to write it up.

We have been practicing our song for next weeks carol concert. We are so excited to share our beautiful voices with you.

Next Monday afternoon, we will be having our Christmas party so please dont forget to send us into school with lots of goodies and send us with our own clothes to change into in a carrier bag.

Next Tuesday, will be our last day at school and also christmas jumper day. All donations will be given to potters village in Uganda.

There will be swimming the first friday back after half term.

We hope that you all have a wonderful Christmas and Santa spoils you.

    Lots of Love

    Year 3

  • Friday 8th December (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

This week, we learnt all about the water cycle. The water cycle is so important to animals and humans. To understand it, we created our own mini water worlds. We planted some cress seeds in some soil inside a plastic cup. We then added some water and covered our cup with clingfilm and placed it by the window. It was really important to cover our mini water worlds with clingfilm and place it by the window. We are hoping that the sun shines through and heats the soil with the water in, causing it to evaporate. Then the water vapour will condense onto the clingfilm and this will cause precipitation. The water will fall back to our soil like rain. This will water our cress seeds and help them to grow. We are very excited to see what happens. Some of us want to bring our cress home (once it has grown of course) and eat it! You can have some too.

We learnt all about dividing by 4 and 8 this week. Some of us found this really tricky. So we know that we need to work on our 3,4 and 8 multiplication and division facts to help us. We really need to work hard on this over the Christmas Holidays as we will be carrying on with it when we start next term.

On Thursday we had our spelling ice cream party. It was lots of fun to celebrate all that we have achieved in our spellings with the rest of the school. We even got to meet the spelling Bee. He was really cool. Soren was our star speller and spelt lots of words from the year 3/4 spelling list correctly. Well done Soren.

As well as this we have been practicing our singing for the carol concert. We are singing the song from the Snowman. Please come and watch us if you can.

    Class 3

Thank you to all parents that visited the school this afternoon for yummy mince pies and coffee. It was great to chat with you all and meet some of you properly for the first time. Thank you ever so much for your time. As always I am really proud of all the hard work the children have put in this half term and very greatful for all the hard work you as parents and carers put in with the children at home. It makes such a difference in class.

If you need anything or would like any extra challenges for your child over christmas please could you let me know this week. This will give me enough time to get it together for you with the amazing help of Mrs Parry.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Again thank you for visiting this afternoon.

    Miss Houghton

  • Friday 1st December (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi everyone,

This week we have been writting a fabulous underwater story about a flood. We included mermaids, divers, and turtles! We are extremely proud of all our writing (so is Miss. Houghton)

We did a really cool experiment in science, we changed the state of chocolate from solid to liquid by using different temperatures of water. We timed how long it took the chocolate to melt in each temperature, 40 degrees was our winner. Really, all we wanted to do was eat the chocolate!

This afternoon we went swimming again and had lots of fun in the pool, we worked really hard. Our swimming teacher couldn't believe how amazing we were.  It's sad because this our last swimming lesson until Christmas.

Don't forget, Miss Houghton is around next Friday afternoon from 1:30pm - 3:00pm if you want to pop in and have a chat about how were doing.

Have a fabulous weekend, year 3!

  • Friday 24th November (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

We have had a very busy week this week and have begun lots of new and exciting things.

We have now finished learning about subtraction and addition and we have moved onto a new subject in Maths: Division and Multiplication. We are already really enjoying learning about the 3,4 and 8 times tables.

In English we have been planning an exciting underwater story about a flood. We have all chosen our own main charachter. Some of us have chosen divers and others mermaids. We can't wait to write it next week.

Today was a very busy day. We began our Friday by walking to the United Reformed Church. When we were there we saw lots of different nativity sets from all over the world. It was really interesting to see how different charachters from the story are represented across the world.

This afternoon, we had our first swimming lesson. We all worked really hard and Miss Houghton was super proud of us. When we each had a go at swimming across the pool, the rest of the class cheered us on. It was lovely to be encouraged by the class.

We hope you have a fantastic weekend.

    Year 3

  • Friday 10th November (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi Guys,

Year 3 have had a great week. On Monday, we started to learn about our new science topic - States of Matter. We moved around the hall as if we were particles in Solids, Liquids and Gases. This was extremely fun.

On Tuesday, we learnt about adding 2 digit numbers to 3 digit numbers. This was really tricky. But, we used the column method to help us. We also started our new topic - Splish Splash Splosh. Did you know 1/4 of the water that comes into your house is used to flush the toilet? - EWWWWW!

On Wednesday, we learnt about the features of non - fiction books. We used labels to mark in a book where these features could be found.

On Thursday, our pretty faces were photographed for our new school photos. We also played non-fiction features bingo. Jack won and he got a special prize. We also met a new friend called Rosie the raindrop. We went on a journey with her from the start of the River Thames all the way to the North Sea. Rosie is going to be with us througout our Splish Splash Splosh topic.

Today, we had a fantastic time watching Trolls at the cinema. We were surprised the Trolls escaped from the Burgens. It was great fun because everyone was singing along.

We hope you have a great weekend.

    Class 3

  • Friday 3rd November (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi everyone

On Monday it was great because we had an extra day at home! (our adults might not think so!!)surpriseOn Tuesday we got straight back into our maths and had to do problem solving.  This was a little tricky but I think that it was because we were still in holiday mode.

On Tuesday we were straight back into our maths.  We were doing problem solving.  This was quite tricky but i think we were all still in hoilday mode!

On Wednesday we learnt about Pneumatic Systems.  Do you know what this is?  N0!?  Ok, I shall tell you.  We had to use a tube and a small and large syringe. We put the syringes on both ends of the tube.  Then we pushed air through the tube using the large syringe.  The air travelled through the tube and made the small syringe pop off.   How clever are year 3?  We are super scientists.

On Thursday we started to design our moving monsters.  We are all very excied to see the finished piece.

On Friday we were very busy doing English and Numeracy challenges.  We also had a lovely treat in assembly.  The Fire-men  from Marple Fire Station came into tell the whole school how to keep safe when we go to Bonfires!  It was very interesting.

.Don't forget that school are selling poppies and other exciting things.

Also Class 3 want you to keep safe when you go to a bonfire.

Happy fireworks and have a lovely weekend.

    Tyler.

  • Friday 20th October (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi all.

This week has been Church Week.  It was absolutely amazing.  We did lots of exciting activities.  We did a treasure hunt which was a journey around the Church.  At the end of the treasure hunt we found the treasure. It was chocolate coins. We all got to eat them (yum, yum).  There were lots of helpers who helped to make the Church week brilliant.  We thank them a thousand times for making it so special.

On Wednesday we started to watch Percy Jackson. It was really exciting.  We can't wait for Friday to finish watching it!  Also some of the children were lucky to go to a workshop with the Poet, Craig Bradley.  He was extremely funny!  We did silly, clapping dancing (so funny).

On Thursday we had our Church Inspection. Some children had to go and talk to the Inspectors. We were able to show off all the good things we do in class 3.

On Friday we made some beautiful leaving cards for Mr Alston.  We will be sorry to see him leave but we wish him lots of good luck in the world for whatever he does!

It's the last day of term (YIPPEE)!  Class 3 hope you all have a great holiday and you all relax!

    Bella and Katie.

  • Friday 13th October (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi everyone.

On Monday we had our Groovy Greek Day.  We all had to dress up as Greeks (as you know).  I (Jude) wore some armour. We had a really good day.  Penelope and Andros taught us a lot about Greeks. We got to play Greek games such as Tiles.  It was good fun when we had to dress up as different Greek people. Leo had to hold a sword up. He was brave because it was sharp! Soren had to hold a spear.  All in all a fab day!

Tuesday was a normal school day.  We were very busy with our English and Numeracy. In Numeracy we learnt how to subtract tens from a 3 digit number. It was quite hard but after lots of hard work we finally got it. In English we wrote a recount about our Groovy Greek day.

Wednesday morning we did our spellings. It was really fun because we all clapped at each others scores to make sure everyone felt special. Lots of us improved on our scores. We are super proud of ourselves and so is Miss Houghton, Miss Parry, Mrs Hammond and Mrs Clayton.

On Thursday we had a special visitor in (Mr Penn). He came into our classroom to see what we were doing.  We were painting our Diwali Pots.  He was very impressed with them.  We tried Hindu Carrot Pudding.  Some of us liked this but most of us didn't! cheeky

On Friday it was Always Time.  We love this half hour!

We are ready for the weekend. Happy weekend everyone.

    Jude and Edward.

P.S If you are going to the disco tonight (Friday) have a tremendous, exciting time! yes

  • Friday 6th October (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

We have had a fantastic time this week doing lots of different activties and learning new things.

On Monday, we started to learn how to use column addition and column subtraction. We thought it was really tricky at first but, now we have got the hang of it we can do it with our eyes shut. (If we know the numbers of course!).

On Tuesday, we made wonderful and beautiful Diva pots using clay. We got very messy and we had to wash our hands after. But, we loved it and we had a very nice time making them with our friends. We can't wait to paint them next week.

On Wednesday afternoon we had a fantastic time painting our Giraffes that we have drawn ourselves. We hope you liked looking at them on parents evening.  We also had lots of fun in PE. We played hockey, mini matches and mini corners.

On Thursday, we used our bodies to create gestures of olympic sports. We used different travels to link them together.

On Friday we made olympic Greek headbands ready for our special Greek day in school on Monday next week. Don't forget we can dress up in Toga's if we want too.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

    Written by Isla and Isaac.

    Good afternoon all,

Just a quick update on the spelllings. After our discussion at parents evening last night, i have decided all children will recieve a certificate if they show any improvement or get a full score. I hope this encourages all the children and reminds them that they are working really hard and I am proud of them.

Maths and English challenge sheets are now avaliable for the children to take home. I have informed them that will be responsible for choosing what sheet they need to take home on Friday and to keep track of what sheets they have already completed. I will be reminding them on a Friday when I give out homework books.

Thank you to all of those that attended parents evening last night. I really value your time. If you have any questions, concerns or just want a chat please let me know. I am here to help.

Remember, if you would like your child to borrow a Percy Jackson book that can be arranged (Just let me know).

Enjoy your weekend and see you Monday.

    Thanks

    Miss Houghton

  • Friday 29th September (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

We have had a fantastic week in school. The children have been continuing with their topic of Groovy Greeks and learning all about the Ancient Greek Olympics and their influence on the Olympics today. They became wonderful statues of Ancient Greek Olympic sports and they are now on display in the classroom. Please take a look when you come into school for parents evening next week.

They have all been working incredibly hard in Maths comparing objects and numbers to 1000, counting in 50's and spotting the mistakes in sequences.

In English, the children have been continuing with their work from last week. They have written fantastic newspaper reports about a Minotaur attack based on a chapter from Percy Jackson and the lightening thief.

I am extremely proud of all their hard work and you should be too. Lots of pot of gold stickers, merits and smileys have been given out and our class smiley winner will receive their prize at the end of the day.

I am aware of the mix-up earlier this week. As a result, there will be no more use of the BREAK sign and the children will solely be using the Rainbow behaviour chart. Please refer to to the whole school behaviour school policy which is attached on the right.

I hope that you all have a fantastic weekend, apologies for no homework books being sent home. Homework can be sent into school on Friday. The homework grid and spelling list is located to the right hand side of the page should you wish to complete homework on paper instead of in homework books this weekend. Be sure to ask the children about all the fun activities we have done.

    See you next week.

    Miss Houghton

  • Friday 22nd September (allsaints-pri Admin)

We have had another fantastic, busy week!

In class 3 we have been very busy writing a draft copy of a newspaper report from the book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.  It was a bit tricky because we had to remember that it was a newspaper report and not a story. We think we have some great journalists in class 3!

We did our spelling test and some of us got a certificate and a prize from the goody bag for getting them all right!   Remember to practise your spellings because if you get 10 out of 11 you get a spelling certificate and if you get 11 out of 11 you get a certificate and a prize!

Remember to read at home and put comments in your reading record.  If you do this then you will get a raffle ticket and the draw will take place on Friday and the winning ticket will get a prize.  It can be any book that you read at home.

    Have a super weekend.

    Isla and Louie.

  • Friday 15th September (ghoughton.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi everyone.

In maths we have been learning how to count in hundreds, tens and units. We are very good at doing this!

Our science activity was learning how to keep safe in the sun. Do you know how to keep safe in the sun?

In assembly this week we had a lovely surprise. Basil the reading dog came in to school to hear us read. (he's a collie dog). He was really good and he waved to all the children. One person from each class went and stroked him. (Erin).

On Thursday we baked white and dark chocolate crispy cakes.  Erin was head chef!  They were yummy!  We sold them at the open morning to raise money for Potters Village in Uganda.

On Friday morning it was open morning.  We were all able to show off what we could do in class 3.  We're sure that everyone that came to visit us are very proud of what we can do!

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday and hearing all about your weekend.

    Erin, Lois and Kelan.

    Our amazing first week back!

This week has only been three days (good because we have been sleepy). We have met our new teacher and have been settling into our new classroom.  It is great looking out onto the field.

We have already been working extremely hard!  We have started to read Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.  We think class three will enjoy this book. In P.E we have had an introduction session.  It sounds like all of our P.E sessions will be fun.  In Science we have been busy doing an experiment on light and dark.  We have been really clever and have had to proofread our writing which was about the first chapter of our new book.   After alot of hard work this week we have finished off by colouring in our school prayer ready to put up in our reflection area.

Class three voted for Growth Mindset of the week to be me (Kelan).

    Happy weekend everyone.

    By Kelan and Charlie.

Class 3, you have been such a wonderful and incredibly special class! Thank you so much for the very kind words, cards and gifts and thank you for such amazing memories! It has been a privilege to teach you and I wish you the best of luck in year 4! Keep on smiling my little superstars!

    Hi Joshua R here!

My favourite part of this week has been making our guitars to investigate pitch! We attached different length elastic bands and found the longest one made the lowest sound. After some research and experiments we found this was because the vibration had a longer way to travel this was the same for xylophones too and why we can play different tunes!  We can't believe next week is our last week in class 3 and will definitely be celebrating a wonderful year next week! Firstly with no homework!! So no need to bring in homework books just learn your spellings. We will also be having a party on Friday so bring in your party clothes in a plastic bag and any contributions of a party snacks will be greatly appreciated!

    Have a great weekend!

I also enjoyed creating barcharts and pictograms in maths. We were so happy for some sunshine on Wednesday because it meant we got to have our postponed sports day, I loved getting to work with all the different children and year groups in black group and I was so happy that my Mum, Dad and Grandma came to cheer me on! We also had a visit from Paralympian Beverly Jones on Wednesday who we did circuits with and learnt all about her sporting success. My very favourite part of the week has been playing our brass instruments to the whole school to end our brass sessions. Hope everybody has a lovely weekend and remember to give your parents your glowing report!

We have loved the first week of our new topic artists and have been finding out all about amazing, peculiar Picasso! We found him so interesting that we have decided we are going to write our own biography about him! To help us plan this we have been looking at examples of biographies and their features and researching fun facts. We have also been recreating some of his cubist style work and creating our own portraits online.  Following our pizza party on the last day of term we have been looking at equivalent pizzas and moved on to finding equivalent fractions.  We also had lots of fun dressing up on world book day, thank you to all the parents who came to visit in class. To help with our topic we would be grateful if you can bring in any old magazines or newspapers and empty red coke cans.

    Hello it's Thomas here!

I have had an amazing week learning all about our new topic the Awesome Egyptians!

We have been learning all about the pyramids and attempted to build our own pyramids out of spaghetti, marshmallows, cocktail sticks and plasticine! It made us realise just how hard it must have been for the Egyptians! We have been looking at timelines, artefacts and went on a treasure hunt on the field to collect information all about the River Nile!

In maths we have been learning our multiples of 3, 4, and 8 and learnt a funny song about bananas to help us to remember them! Remember to keep practising these at home to become a times table champion!

We were shocked to receive a lettermail from Stockport council  asking us to change our topic because they didn’t think it was awesome at all and think it's too scary for us!!! We have been learning the features of persuasive letters so we can persuade the education officer to let us keep our fascinating topic!!

Everybody has been given a new homework book which has there spellings in for the rest of the term to be tested each week so make sure you keep them safe!! They are on our web page if you lose them though! This week's spellings (week 1 -beginning with disagree) will be tested on Wednesday (21st)!

Congratulations to the first growth mindset winner- Zac

Congratulations to the first star writer winner- Aleah

    Have a great weekend!yes

    Harley here!

We have worked extremely hard this week on our reading, writing and maths assessments!  It hasn’t all been tests through! For our writing assessments we have planned our own exciting adventure for Lazlo. In our last drama session Lazlo took the time to get to know the dark and managed to conquer his fear. Now that Lazlo’s no longer afraid of the dark we came up with lots of places Lazlo could visit. Collectively using the story stick technique we developed a new adventure for Lazlo then we choose our own dark place for him to visit I choose a bat cave in Chester Zoo! We had a class writing competition and I was a winner ! We have also been working hard in our singing sessions ready for our trip next term to the Bridgewater Hall and for our whole school singing assembly on 14th July.

    Have a lovely holiday everyone.

Remember to work on your 50 spellings word list and also remember to have lots of fun!

  • Friday 6th May (aleah.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi it’s Amy,

If you are wondering what we have been up to you’re in the right place as I’m going to tell you!

In literacy and drama we are loving working on The Dark by Lemony Snicket, after receiving such clear instructions last week Lazlo bravely travelled from his bedroom to the basement and met the dark. We re-read the story and noticed the dark carried out many verbs. We realised the dark which is usually a noun was actually a character and the author was using personification. The dark: lived, hid, sat, waited, went out, spread itself, felt, like and spoke! Collectively we adopted the role of the dark and acted out the personification. In groups of three we wrote a sentence using personification or a simile about the dark. We then put these together to create a collective class poem and now we are writing our own poems about the dark using personification and similes. In Topic we have been creating our own lift the flap booklet showing the different layers of the Earth including the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core! In maths we linked to our directions for Laszlo we have been work on directions and angles, I loved meeting the Angle family so that’s Mrs Right Angle- who is always right, Mr obtuse, their very cute baby, Baby Acute and Reflex their dog who is always outside!

Have a wonderful sunny weekend remember to stay sunwise! Talking of being sunwise remember to work on your sunwise grammar test in the back of your homework book!

Homework:  Grid, spellings, handwriting and reading

  • Friday 29th April (aleah.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi it's Evie B here!

In literacy we met our little friend Laszlo again, he needed help finding his lost toy in the dark! To put ourselves in Laszlo’s shoes we blindfolded our partner and sent them outside to find a hidden toy, guiding them with directional terms! It was lots of fun. To help Laszlo, we wrote him amazing directional instructions carefully including imperative verbs, adverbial openers, directions, prepositions, nouns and adjectives.

This week we have also learnt lots about directions around the world! We have learnt special words like longitude, latitude meridians and the equator to find different co-ordinates for the different areas of the world. Europe is 60°N 40°E!

In maths we had check out challenges! We had to use our column subtraction to subtract amounts of money and give the correct change so when we go shopping we will be able to help check the receipts!

     Enjoy the long weekend

See you all next week Tuesday! yeslaugh

  • Friday 22nd April (aleah.allsaints-pri.stockport)

    Hi George here! smiley

I have loved this sunny week, especially eating my lunch outside! I have loved our drama sessions this week and meeting a little boy called Laszlo who is scared of the dark and therefore his basement! We created a conscience alley and mapped out and described the furniture and objects down there! Laszlo wants to overcome his fear of the dark so he asked us to write him a description of the basement, in mine I "Anxiously opened the wooden, glossy door to the dark, spooky basement and courageously crept down the cracked, squeaky stairs!" we all made sure we included powerful verbs,  connectives, adjectives and adverbial openers. In maths we have been adding up money using the column method and in Geography we made own mini world, we had the whole world in our hands! We labelled the Equator, Prime Meridian, Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, the Arctic Circle and Antarctic circle, we can’t wait to find out more about them next week!yes

    Have a great weekend!

We have cut up newspapers to find their features as well as doing some amazing work on connectives, using dinosaur eggs and sand to find words to help create amazing connecting sentences!

As part of our topic we have been doing lots of work on art! We have found out many things about the famous artist called Pablo Picasso. We read his biography and researched lots of things about his life so we have lots of information for when we write our own biographies about him.

In art we copied and created a Picasso style picture and coloured it in. We made a special present for our families using jars and deco patch paper. We sketched the other half of our faces with charcoal trying to create a symmetrical picture! Some of them looked very funny!

Because we are going to be doing lots of art over this  term, it would be very useful if you could

please send in an apron or an old shirt that your child can wear so their school uniform does not get ruined!
